I was finally ready to place my order for the ATG gun at Tape Depot, and Poof! Tape Depot seems to be gone?
I read the recent thread and found the suggestions for Armel, looks good to me, but I have one question...
They have the "new improved" ATG50 version for half the price of the 714. Has anyone else used this style? They also have the original (714), but if it's twice the price for no good reason, I'll go for the new one.
Suggestions?
I have the 714 and love it. And I ESPECIALLY loved it the other day when I was nearly out of tape and was going to place an order in the next day or so (I use framingsupplies.com), and I happened to see the same tape in the local scrapbook store. 2 rolls for over $18!!!!!!!! Yep, I placed my order for a dozen rolls online the next day--and saved a bundle.
Enjoy your new toy when you get it!

I have the ATG 50 and hate it. The tape runs on the FAR right side of the roller, so I can't really see where it's going unless I wrap my head around my hand to try and see. A lady at my Fri crop commented on how awkward it was.
I also have the 714 (back at 3M for recall which is why I was using the ATG 50) and I LOVE it! It's just light years better IMHO. Well worth the double price tag.
Thanks for the opinion, that's what I love about this site - you get opinions, both good and bad, about products! When everything is always sunny-side up it's hard to get an accurate opinion! Not everything can be fantastic for everyone.
I agree with Babydal57. Got the ATG 50 when my 3M 714 was sent back to be replaced. I thought I was the only one withtrouble with the right side tape placement. Maybe this ATG would be easier for a left handed person to use. The ATG 50 in now delagated to the back of the closet. The 714 is front and center within easy reach.
Oh, I love my ATG 50 and I don't have any issues with the tape on the roll. To me, the extra money is not worth the 714 (and I have used them both extensively).
I have a comparison on my blog here, complete with pictures. Feel free to check it out! It has 2 posts, so be sure to look down to the original comparison.

Either way...you NEED an ATG! ;)
Fantastic comparison! Thank you!
I"ve been wanting one of these guns for some time now. I'm just hem hawing about which one.
Amber,
You cannot go wrong with the Armel company, I have only had GREAT experiences with them. They are super fast too! You can call them too, if you speak to Lynn, she is a scrapbooker so she may be able to answer any questions.

I simply cannot live without my ATG 714 !!! For that reason, I have delayed in sending it back (mine was from that group that was screwed up and needed to be replaced). I bought the ATG 50 and I hate it. It would be fine for a leftie, and in fact one of my leftie friends has one and loves it. I just bought an ATG 700 today so I'd have something to use while my 714 goes back to the company to be replaced. For those of you who don't know what the difference is, the 714 only uses 1/4" tape, and the 700 uses 1/2" and 3/4". I figure I can always use an "extra tape gun" so no money lost!!
