Default Old Colors and New Colors

Someone asked me this question and I thought I'd ask the group since I didn't know. My friend (really it is a friend it isn't me!) has some old color stamp pads - you know before SU stayed with the colors that are in the book now. She doesn't want to buy all new colors and wondered how different are the old colors from the color that replaced. For instance, she has Forest Foliage which apparently was replaced by Handsome Hunter. if she bought the reinker for HH, could she reink the FF pad with that?? It looked to me that most of the colors that replaced old colors were very similar in color, name was changed and maybe it was off a shade or two. Anyway, have any of you used the replacement inks for the old colors and if so, how'd it work? Or any thoughts/ideas on this?? Thanks for your help!

Ok, I've been an SU! customer long enough to still have some of the old colors in my stash.

In my opinion the new colors are too different to mix the inks. For example, Handsome Hunter didn't have nearly as much blue in it as Forest Foliage does. Regal Rose is much lighter and has less blue than the Rose Romance it replaced. She could, however, completely rinse the old color out of the pads and re-ink with the new. I've never done that, but I know it can be done.

What I don't know is can you totally re-ink an empty pad with one bottle of re-inker? If not, she wouldn't save anything over purchasing a new ink pad.

thanks for the info - if the colors are too different then I'm sure she won't want to rinse and then re-ink - she just wanted to reink over the existing color, assuming that they were pretty close. She doesn't want a big mess on her hands! I'm glad they stopped changing out the main colors. Makes it easier to stay with what you have (not that I have many of the full pads myself!).

not to hijack this thread...but this leads me to another question.

I've heard or read that the only colors they are now retiring will be the "in-colors". is that true for the most part going forward? Do you think they are planning on sticking with the core color groups for a while and not making many changes? This would change my thoughts on buying more ink pads if this was the case, so I am curious

Kerry - They changed the core colors two (?) years ago, but kept most of them. I think they will stick around awhile. The in-colors will change yearly, but I think the core colors are safe for quite awhile. I haven't been into stamping more than five years, but I heard they hadn't messed with the original colors for several years before that. I'm sure others will have even more info.

thank you Joanne!! I might invest in the Spots...I just can't see needing all those ink pads. As it is now, I use my markers when I don't have the corresponding inkpad, and it works great. Just my thoughts!
