Not lovin' my JustRite Monogram Stamper

Just today I purchased the JustRite D.I.Y. C-45 Monogram Stamp & Storage Box kit at my LSS. I've been playing with it for nearly an hour and just can't get a decent inked image. The letters stamp fine, but the borders are "broken."

I've tried adding a little more reinker, but this didn't seem to help.

I'm going to step away from it for a while, and try again later.

Any suggestions?

Also, what size round punch do you use to punch out the image? I'm thinking it's 1 3/4" which is the only size I DON'T have.

Thanks.

Mine doesn't stamp perfectly, either. Specifically the large letters from the special occasions set. Depending on which ink I use, it comes out a bit blotchy, like with clear stamps. I have to use a juicier ink to get it to stamp nicely, like Adirondack. I've sanded, erased, scrubbed, but it doesn't help.

Hi,
I do believe the 1 3/4" circle works the best. It is the only one I don't have also. I have the circle nestabilities on order. I had a little trouble stamping at first as well. Are you using the block or the stamper? I had better luck with the block. Which ink are you using? I had good luck with Versafine.

I just saw you are using the stamper. I had trouble with that also. You need a firm and steady hand. I also found that a quicker motion got the best image.

I am using the stamper that came with the kit and also the black ink included, however I inked it with my SU! Basic Black refill.

Have you tried standing while using the stamper? I found that it made all the difference and get beautifully stamped images. If that doesn't work, contact the company. They have excellent customer service. HTH

I've had a similar problem with some acrylic stamps. I sometimes find that helps to place a sheet of thin craft foam under the paper. It is forgiving and lets the entire stamp touch the paper without squishing the stamp and distorting the image.

I have the round wood stamper from JustRite with the curlz font, and I am having the same problem getting a good image. My border comes out OK, but my big letters are not coming out clear. The only way I got a decent image (sometimes) was to emboss it, but I really don't want to have to do that everytime.

Has anyone emailed Justrite directly for advice? I know I had a defective stamper and they were very helpful - if anyone decides to maybe report back here to say what they suggested. I know they have their hands full with CHA though!

I found that stamping on an old mouse pad helped a lot. The image looked a lot better for me. I have also found that juicier inks work best with it. Make sure everything is pushed into place really well. Then, stamp it a few times on scratch paper to get it well inked. HTH!

HI Everyone,

I have the JustRite stamp (C-45) and all the accessories. I am also having problems with the curlz image. When using the three-letter version, I find that the middle letter comes out either very pale or only partial. I also use a mouse pad (suggested by a forum member) and it's a little better but not good enough.

Now, if I ask my DH to stamp it for me it comes out much better, but he has to stamp it many times to get a clean image and end up wasting my cardstock.

Hoping someone can come up with a solution. Thanks for your help.

Pat

I'm having the same problem too. Hoping someone has an idea on how to get a better stamped image.

Yes, that's exactly what happened for me. It was the middle letter that would not come out clear even with the mouse pad and trying several different types of ink.

I did a few days ago, however have not yet received a reply. I don't expect to hear from them until they return from CHA.

BTW--McGill has a 1 11/16" punch that is perfect for the DIY stamper. I got mine from Bonnie's Best.

Can I just add reassure you that if you have any problems they are very quick to resolve them - i think this query is getting delayed because of CHA- and walk you through them. I had a replacement within three working days after notifying them of a problem (I had picked up one from a defective batch on from my LSS). I can't ask for more than that, it takes that long for shipping which is out of Just-rite's control.

Hi Girls, Sorry to hear that some of you are experiencing troubles getting a clear image when using your stampers.

Here are the suggestions that we tell our customers.
1) Our stampers do not have foam mount like traditional wood stampers so it is necessary to stamp on something such as a firm stamp mat or mouse pad which will provide a little extra give.
2) We recommend using dye based inks in your stamper however I personally asked Tim Holtz what he uses in his stamper and he said Adirondack or Distress inks work fine for him.
3) As with any rubber stamp company, there is usually a bit of the release residual on the stamp that causes the ink to bead. Once that residual is removed by lightly sanding or erasing you should not have the beading troubles. Sometimes, just using it over and over again will remove it as well.
4) It does not take a lot of pressure to get a good stamped image. Holding the self inking stamper down for long periods of time is not going to get you a darker image.
5) Use the palm of your hand across the top of the stamper and press down with firm even pressure and release gently. Sometimes this requires standing up to ensure even pressure and no rocking.

Hope this helps answer your frustrations. If you have tried all these options and still don't get the results you are looking for PM me.

Laurie Schmidlin has made some beautiful cards using this monogram set. Her blog is 'Just Give Me Stamps' and her gallery name is lauraly - she might have some answers for you. I went to order this set online this morning and they were out of stock....now I'm wondering if I should buy them at all.

The manufacterer has examples of using scallop and circle punches with their stamper and they list sizes and sources. The used a 1-7/8 circle with a 2-5/16 scallop stamp. I order mine today from craftetc.com. Check out the justritestampers.com blog for great info.

I also got one of these. I couldn't get it to work good either. Put it back in the box and haven't taken it back out yet.

I've had success using the block. It's much easier to line things up. I hope all who are being challenged get it resolved quickly so they can enjoy theirs as well.

I stamped with mine yesterday ON my stamping pad and it was much much much (did I say much) better!

The other thing I found is that I needed to let the ink sit on the stamp a little bit.

I will still stamp on scrap for a bit when I start just to check it for errors & issues.

I'm getting rather obsessed with these - I made a spreadsheet yesterday of JustRite products so I could work out which ones I "needed"

I use chalk or pigment inks with mine and they come out quite lovely. I found the dye based inks left mine looking blotchy like they had a pox or something. LOL Versamagic ink is what I'm using.

I wanted to make some note cards for our August Bunco hostess and decided to give my monogram stamper another try using the above tips. It worked like a charm and I loved the results!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions!
