The handle on my Big Shot broke. The screw is fine. The machine is almost 10 years old, but still works great. I've attached a picture. Has anyone ever replaced a handle? I called Sizzix/Ellison and was told to send an email from the Web site. But I thought I'd ask here, too. Thanks so much for your help.
Strange that the image could not be loaded. I did hear from Sizzix. They do not have any parts for the Big Shot that is not covered under warranty. It was suggested that if I couldn’t obtain a part somewhere that I should consider purchasing a new machine. The handle still screws into the machine. It’s the handle tip that broke off. I will use it the best I can while I search for a suitable replacement.
Darn it. Hmmm. Maybe there is some kind of serious commercial super glue you could use? I am surprised Sizzix cant sell you a whole new handle. :(
I hate to think it, but I think Sizzix won't sell part for the Big Shot because they want you to buy a new one. I know that many manufacturers also refuse to sell parts because they can't be sure you will install it correctly. A friend of mine had a broken Big Shot handle years ago, and they actually sent her a replacement. However, when her newer Big Shot handle also broke, they said they don't sell replacement parts anymore.
I live in fear that my trusty Big Shot will break right in the middle of a project, eek!

Karen,
I had a piece of metal spit out by my Big Shot, and it took to making noises. The handle fell off one time, too. I got the handle back on, I guess the screw had just worked loose. I think the piece of metal is a tooth in a gear, because it fights me at one point turning the handle. Still, it works, but when Tuesday Morning had the Big Kick really cheap, I went ahead and bought one as a back up. That way, if my Big Shot croaks, I have a replacement (not to mention I still have my Cuttlebug, too)
Fortunately, I was able to get a replacement handle from someone whose Big Shot stopped working. If you know of anyone who has a Big Shot that no longer works, ask her to save the handle before she puts the machine in the trash. 😊

Yay. That's a really good idea!
As for parts...well I guess that is the way of world in general now. Sad. I have had to try to find some in the last few months for things that are 20 years old. People say that's old-my answer: not compared to me! LOL. But seriously while it can be a great excuse to buy new, I would prefer to get a part and not stick something in the dump before I have to.

Another idea is to look for a used Big Shot. A lot of people upgrade even though the old one is still in perfect working order. I don't use Big Shot but I have 3 Cricut Cuttlebugs. Kept them all for that very reason. Cricut Cuttlebugs are no longer manufactured. Bought my first one in 2009. Found 2nd one as give away and 3rd one was gifted to me. Love the Cuttlebug since it doesn't take up so much room on table. I believe some of the other manufacturers do make embossing machines folding now. So I should be good for quite some time!!
What is broken with the handle? I have a Sizzix with a stuck handle. I cannot rotate the handle to be able to feed the plates. I believe the handle is still okay except for normal wear and tear since I have this machine for at least 10 years now. I believe it is the screw that is broken. I will post a photo here once I get to it.
I repaired a cuttlebug two different times by watching a video on YouTube. That’s always my first go to when anything in my house breaks. I repaired a ceiling fan and replaced the lightbulb in my microwave oven. I’m a proud graduate of YouTube university!

I live in fear too of mine not working right in the middle of crafting something. Mine is at least 10 yrs. old I think. Sometimes it sounds clunky so gets me anxious.
In the past, I had problems after years with my Big Shot after an episode of grinding. I contacted Sizzix and they sent me the part for free. Contact Sizzix and they will help you out - they have very good customer service for this.
Have you tried Facebook page for your town? I think Facebook has sales of all sorts of products, I saw old cuddle bugs etc on there. Some stuff was new with new prices. I think it an answer to Etsy since they have addd so many extra charges.

I had a stuck handle and used this youtube video to take the Big Shot apart and work on it.
The gears were out of alignment and my husband helped me get them back in line.
I still use my original Big Shot from 2009 or so. I say a little prayer with every use and when it dies, I will strip it for parts and get a new Big Shot. I have too many add ons like a Chrome plate and magnetic platform to justify a switch to another brand.
