New Thinlits Card Dies

Will these dies fit the Cuttlebug?

iamvics 08-01-2013 12:24 PM

Yes

eyestitch 08-01-2013 01:59 PM

Is there an old Cuddlebug and a new Cuddlebug with the new one being slightly larger? I seem to have some vague recollection of that. I have an old cuddlebug. Will the thinlits fit that?

iamvics 08-01-2013 02:32 PM

I don't see any Thinlits with dimensions too big to fit in either version Cuttlebug. You can check the sizez here: Sizzix.com - Catalog

I have both the old and the new Cuttlebug (handle on the old is broken but useable with some "first aid") and they both take the same plates and the cutting space is the same. So if it fits one CB it will fit the other.

Thanks so much for your responses!!!

Thanks for all the help!!

From memory, these dies are 6 1/4" as one dimension. I think my bug can take 6" but 6 1/4 is dicey. I know that SU border dies are too wide to fit through my Bug landscape way. I need to do some research on this because I would really like to have these if they would fit.

Exciting news to report for Cuttlebug users - the SU Card thinlits dies FIT!! I had my annual workshop yesterday and the demo brought these along. I had my Cuttlebug handy and tested them out on the plates .... The will run through the machine one way, I guess you would callit portrait style, but won't fit sideways, landscape style. Does that make sense?

Also had a chance to test the envelope liners, they also fit through the throat of the Cuttlebug. :D

By the way, the thinlit card that we got to see and handle was just just gorgeous! Yes, it's on my must get list.

Crafteemommy 08-04-2013 02:31 PM

Yay!

Ambelleina 08-04-2013 07:24 PM

Whoa, I must have missed these. SO COOL!

eyestitch 08-05-2013 05:27 AM

what is the envelope liner? I missed that one.

It is a set of three different sized dies that cut the outline for an envelope when it is open, before sealing. The shape looks like a slice of bread. Here's a link:

Envelope Liners Framelits Dies - Stampin' Up!

The problem I see with these dies is that you have to use them with that specific shape of envelope. I don't use SU envelopes so these were not on my must-have list. Someone will probably come up with a clever way to use them for something other than lining envelopes, then I will wish I had them!

They fit in my side kick. Stampin Up's Thinlit's die set that cuts and scores the whole card also works through my Side Kick. I love this die, I am working on a "floating" bat card for Halloween like the one they show in their video. Stampin' Up! Thinlits Card Dies - YouTube

Thank you for the YT link. I love swing cards and I'm excited to know about the Thinlits card dies. Another reason I love SCS websites. So much information about new crafts.

Ordered mine yesterday! I think these will make really beautiful Christmas cards!

Ambelleina 08-23-2013 08:03 PM

I just ordered mine, the circle die because it's just more my style. I canNOT wait to get it! :D

Anyone know what the sandwich is for Cuttlebug yet? Or will it score properly at all?

My Cuttlebug used the regular combo of an B plate and C plate. Score marks showed fine. If your Bug is looser, you may want to use a metal shim or perhaps cs shims.

You are going to love this die!

Awesome, then B+C should work perfectly for mine. I wanted this to make really cool but easy to create Christmas cards..I cannot WAIT!

Are these only on the SU website or in a catalog?

They're not in a catalog as of right now!

maryrose 08-27-2013 05:56 AM

I've been playing with mine and featuring them on my blog this week. They really are awesome!

lesleybd 08-27-2013 06:38 AM

Does anyone know if these are available in the UK?

Lesley

nancystamps 08-27-2013 02:03 PM

Oh, which one to pick? I can't get both.

A friend of mine decided that the circle one was more versatile, and I think she is right in that assessment. You can use circle dies (scallop, lace edge and other fancy round dies), flower dies and it will fit larger images in it than the label card thinlit die.

I was able to get both of them with hostess benefits from a workshop, so I came to this conclusion after comparing the two, side by side. I like the elegant shape of the label thinlit, but it has a smaller area to use for image/sentiment. Just my thoughts on this. Maybe someone else will share their reasons for going with one or the other. Have fun making the decision, they are both wonderful! :D

Ambelleina 08-27-2013 07:49 PM

Agreed with the above comment, I picked the circle one because I thought it'd be more versatile, too! I'll get the other one later. :)

jan31 08-27-2013 10:12 PM

Lesley, I know they have Stamping up demonstrators in the UK, if you go into google they have a contact address.

Ambelleina 08-28-2013 05:04 AM

And to add on to my last comment, I also make more casual cards. I figured the circle thinlit would work better for that purpose. I like the other one a lot too, but I feel the circle is more versatile. I also liked the chevron die that comes with the circle thinlit. Rather, I just like the extra dies that come with the circle thinlit better on the whole. :)

Good point! I totally forgot about the other 9 dies that come with it. There are lots of reasons to like this set.

Thanks, Jan.

I was hoping to find out UK the price before contacting a demo.

I fear the price here will be 32 which makes them very expensive.

I kind of wish that the card shapes were available on their own to keep the price down a bit.

I am sure some of my other dies would coordinate OK.

Our son lives in San Francisco so I stock up on crafty bits when we go over and if an item is 5 in england it is usually $5 over there!

Hi, Jan.

I visit Florida almost every year and always 'hit' Michael's, Hobby Lobby etc. while I'm there.

I would love to order stuff online to be delivered to the holiday house but too worried it wouldn't arrive while I was there!

Just have to grin and bear our high prices.

I'm lucky Leslie that I can send things on, I have parcels sent to our son in London too he didn't mind until his neighbour took a parcel in from Cuddly Buddly!

I totally agree with you about the dies they have packaged with the card die. They are not my style, so most of them will likely go unused. I am certain you are right that you likely have dies already that will work great in it. I am still puzzled why SU didn't make nesting coordinating dies to match the shape of the swing part. It would have been the logical thing to do and also would have made it a "must have" for a lot of card makers who don't normally buy SU dies.

eyestitch 08-28-2013 02:31 PM

Also, I think the actual die size for the flip should have been bigger. Do any other companies have flip card dies with bigger shapes for the flip?

nancystamps 08-28-2013 05:53 PM

Thanks for your thoughts, I think I'll go with the circle!

Cuddly Buddly should really post in a 'plain brown wrapper'!

I received my circle thinlit on Friday, used it a few times over the weekend and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! Yes, now I must also purchase the label one later! ONLY thing is I wanted to cut a scalloped circle with the "thx" die inside for a negative cut look but the thx die would not go through my Bazzil cs for ANYTHING! I did actually finally get it to cut through, but I had to add a shim (using CB, A+C+B) and roll the darn thing back and forth around 20 times, then pop it out a bit. Wow. Reminder to use thinner cs with the smaller dies! :)

binkiemonstermom 09-04-2013 07:53 AM

Just to let you know- you can add a back panel to your thinlet cards to give you more room to write a note on them. I have some pictures on my blog if you want to look- but basically cut an 81/2X11 sheet of paper in half like you would normally do for your A2 sized cards- line up the first side flush with the left hand side of the thinlet- take the remainder part of the paper and lay it OVER the back half of the die.......the part past the circle or label part. I hope that makes sense- It will make a crease where the paper goes over the die when you run it through- score on that line- now you have an extra panel.
If my description is clear as mud to ya- you can google it or you can look on my blog! Hope this helps! I really think it makes the cards more useable!!!
