Default Stickles - what am I doing wrong?

SCS forums convinced me I needed stickles. I bought my first bottle about 6 months ago and have used about one third to one half of it and loved it - until recently.

Now I have to squeeze with all my might to get anything to come out and usually what does come out has less glitter in it than before when it used to flow. The bottle is not 100% clogged as some does come out. The glitter has not settled.

I've tried putting a pin through the opening and storing it in every direction you can think of. Neither seem to make any difference.

What am I doing wrong?

TIA for your help

I've had this happen too - it's so frustrating! I love Stickles but when this happens I'm ready to throw it away.

This has happened to me. You have the get clog out of the bottle or it will continue to plug it up.
I use a needlenose pliers and remove the entire top and then I work with a paperclip or pin to dig the actual clot out of the top. It does work.
If you use a pin from the top then you are just pushing the clot back doen into the bottle and it will come up again and again.

works for me also - but be sure to hold tight when you pull out the top. I had one fly off and it took me forever to find it!

The darker colors seem to glog more than the lighter colors.

Good luck!

And if all else fails - just snip the top to make the opening wider - I know this somewhat defeats the object but it's better than throwing the bottle away!

Also, try storing your Stickles upside down - it helps to not get clogs. I always stick my paper piercer down the Stickles bottle and it always unclogs it.

I use stickles all the time, could not live without it. Here is what I do...After using the bottle of stickles I bang the bottom of the bottle on my table 4 or five times to get as much of the stickles out of the neck and then wipe the tip off put the lid on and I store them upright. Have not had a problem with clogging and I have been using stickles for a long time now. Hope this helps.

Any Mary Kay ladies out there? I use the MK lipstick holder rack to store my Stickles upside down as the bottle gets older.

I have also in the past cut the bottle tip too much (before I started storing the older bottles upside down). When I use these I squeeze a little out on a palette and use a toothpick to apply in a fine line. The toothpick I use is the ones where one side is pointed and the other flat. the flat side works for me.

That happened to me too! It was 6 months later that I found the bottle top in the bottom of a box of ribbons.

Wink Stickles Glue

I hang all of my stickles glue upside down and have never had any issues with the tips clogging up. I used one of those heavy duty plastic 8 1/2 x 11 picture table stands like they use for advertisements, well anyways I then attached strips of velcro to it and then put the other half of the stickable velcro on the bottles of stickles and then attached them to the plastic stand and that way they are out of the way.

I cased this idea from a blog page on a website.

It has worked for me.

I had to contact them too, because I had 6 bottles that were clogged. They immediately sent me 6 new bottles plus 6 new tips plus a new color of stickles. Great company to work with!!

I learned this tip from Judy Jackson at the Marcos Paper booth at the York, PA, convention last weekend when I helped to demo the Scor-It /BInd-It-All Make N Take. We used Glossy Accents which is similar to Stickles but no glitter. When we were not using the Glossy Accents, we put the bottles upside down with the tips on a damp sponge that was placed in a small bowl. This prevented the glue in the tip of the bottle from drying up between uses. This should work with Stickles, too. This is NOT a storage tip, but a way to prevent drying out while you use it on a project.

in my experience, almost any type of sticky stuff gets clogged once it's opened. I just keep a paper clip around to unclog things. I always test stickles on scrap before I apply them. Keeping the neck wiped clean works well too. I also read somwhere that after you open the bottle, you should tap the nib a few times on the desk to get any settled glitter moving.

Default Stickles

If you slightly warm the bottle before use by rolling in your hands, standing in hot water or lay it on the top of your radiator there wont be a problem. Works every time for me.

For several years now, I have had clogs after longer periods of non-use. So .... Once a year, before using them on Christmas ornaments, I pop those tops out using a paring knife (not the safest, but handy). Push the plug out from the bottom - esp if its just glitter that has gotten hung, or remove any larger glop with paper piercer. Just wipe any tools free of glue/glitter before it dries.

I've learned it pays to test just a dab before working on my project.

Judy's idea of getting all the glue out of the tip before storing will work the most reliably. I'm not sure I can do what it takes with my tender hands.

I like the idea of storing them upside down. Any suggestions for inside a sterlite drawer?

Kelli - could you post a link to your pic?

Thanks,

Amy C

I read somewhere that someone uses the Florist green stuff for the Stickles upside down in a container. I have not solved this problem yet either. I love using Stickles.

Question MK Lipstick Holders

I sell BeautiControl, but is there still a way to buy those ML lipstick holders??? That sounds great.;)

I store my Stickles in a Tim Holtz distress ink tin. The division inside the tin allows me to sort them according to color. With the tin I can turn it upsidedown. It's nice because I can carry all the colors with me since it has a handle and it holds alot - 6 stickles in each slot.

Question Your Stickles "holder" suggestion..

Well, that's cool! I didn't know there was one that stickles fit into! Where do you buy Tim Holtz stuff. I've found the prices vary so much. www.creativeplaystamps.com usually has Stickles very cheap, and a large selection. Speaking of distress, what do you use Distress Stickles for as opposed to regular Stickles???

I store my Stickles in one of my JETMAX drawers in storage boxes. I was going to hang mine upside down until a friend tried it and she said her Stickles still clogged so I kept what I have now.

There are 2 layers of Stickles - what can I say, I love them! Also in the same drawer are Peerless glazes and Ranger's acrylics.

I bought the Tim Holtz distress ink tin at AC Moore with a 50% off coupon. There are 8 slots, so it holds 48 stickles. I also have one to hold my ink refills for my inkpads. 6 of those also fit into one slot.

Yes....all glitter glue needs to be upside down....it will help with the clogging deal and it will also help eliminate the airbubble thing that happens with this stuff....not a pretty look to have a blob in the middle of something!

I also use the piercer if I find I have any problems.

Hi Crafters! Sorry for restarting an old thread but I need hellp with 1 bottle of stickles. I have a vared collection of the stickles, I love the fact they don't flatten.
Firstly I have always stored my bottles upside by attaching a bit of velcro on the bottom of the bottles which I then stick to a strip of velcro I've stapled onto the bottom of shelf over my craft desk. Just have to remember to secure the lid properly first!
I have had issues with the odd clog mid project but I always have a couple of pins stuck to a magnet on my note board so this os never a major issue. Recently though I bought a new colour (Disco ball) the first use to test it it seem ok-ish, a bit more 'gloopy' than the others and it didn't flow as welL, but then when i tried to use it on a project it didn't flow at all. I tried to clear the tip but the contents were virtually solid. like a verry sparkly almost set jelly. i had another bottle that was only 1/4 full so i tried to mix the new with this and it worked, but when i went to use it again it was solid, again! I've tried adding water and have even tried experimenting with a bit of it mixed with nail varnish thinner but no joy! Hs anyone heard of this and/or how i get it to flow? I'm disabled and on a budget so while its quite chep it still seems a waste of money for me! I did think aout messaging Ranger direct and asking them but I've now played about with it so much I'm not sure I have much of a case for them to exchange etc! Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks

Contact Ranger and they will send you a new bottle and they probably won't ask for an exchange. Ranger has great customer service and they would want to know there is a problem. Long ago I had problems with my orange like you're having and they replaced mine
Good luck.

Good luck.
Their customer service is the best!

My Stickles do flatten a lot. There is only a little dimension when they dry. They also run, so I keep this in mind when I use them. As for customer service, Ranger did replace 2 of the orange Stickles I had, because the glitter and "glue" had separated. No amount of shaking and banging could get them to mix.

Tim Holtz, on the other hand, wasn't as nice or helpful when I emailed him about another product of his that I was having trouble with.

Gee I got the disco ball. But so far I only used it for my sample board.

I do find I get better results in general with them if I seriously shake them upside down before using to get settled glitter off the bottom if they have been sitting awhile upright.

I just got these for storage. They take up more space than I imagined. I dont know if in the long run I will keep them. I had tried nail polish acrylic containers but the openings were not big enough. I dont have the box-just the angled tray.

Hmmmm......I was just telling someone how much I love sticklers and that it's surprising they never clog. I don't do anything special. I store them right side up too. Do you think they have improved the recipe?

I have some from about six years ago that work great. Maybe it's different climates. I live in SW Wi. Some humidity in the summer as we're right along the bluffs of the Mississippi.

Re: Storage-I just found another, smaller tray idea. They are not upside down but I would assume you could do it that way.

Best Craft Organizer sells covered containers that store them upside down.......they have let a few other companies sell them too. I have them and love them......they have a very small footprint. I'm sorry I'm not computer savvy enough to post a link.
