Nestie storage...what's cheap and good?

Hi!

I'd like to know how people store their nesties....specifically, I'd like to find something that works great, but is CHEAP too.

Please help me here!

Thanks!
Bonnie

I bought a roll of magnetic tape, about $4 at Michaels. I cut pieces of corrugated cardboard from a shipping box, about the size of the cardboard in the nesties package. Then I put a strip of tape down the middle and one on each side. Adhered each nesties set to a piece. I stand them on end in a photo box and leaf through to find what I need. Easy and cheap.

I don't care at all about having "cute" storage stuff. No one sees my crafting things but me, so it just has to serve it's purpose.

i use the envelopes that come wiht ctmh stamps.
those work perfect for me.

GloriousGreetings 12-01-2008 10:26 AM

I know some use the magnetic tape from the dollar store, and an empty CD case. Stick the magnet in the CD case and place your nesties on top. Easy to see and to open and they stay put. I am going to do this with mine.

tinahale38 12-01-2008 10:32 AM

I put magnet strips on the side of my craft bookcase and have put each set of nesties there. Easy for me to get too.
I have the large sets on the top half and small sets on the bottom half.
HTH!

I tried to find it with no luck...so maybe the owner of this fun system will come forward...

All she did was put magnetic strips down the side of a tall bookshelf in her scrapping room and stuck all the nesties on. It would work on the inside of a cupboard door, or even on the wall! This would be great to see what all you have at one time, and it's even cheaper than the CD cases. I actually got some magnetic vehicle signs from DH's work for free, but they might be easy to find at a thrift store...etc...these could be cut and stuck to the surface for even less money than buying strips of magnet tape. :)

Personally I like the Quickutz Folders for my nesties...each shape in a folder...but if I had to start over, I thought that the wall of nesties was a great idea, since I do like to see all the sizes of a set at once for matching them up with each other.

I use magnetic vent covers cut down to size and plastic baggies and then I clip them on my homemade clip it up. very cheap storage

Nope, wasn't me. I think it was Laurie Schmidlin. I am not sure of her blog address.

Here's how I store mine:

http://craftski.multiply.com/photos/...ties_Organizer

I have 2 "books" already, one has 8 pages and one has 5. This system is very convenient for me - it sames me space and I put them in arm's reach, plus it's easy to just flip the pages and look for the particular Nestie I need :)

momis mama 12-01-2008 11:16 AM

i use a strip of magnet in a CD case too...

works for me!

i also store my small cuttlebug EFs in CS cases so they all store very nicely together.

good luck finding what works for you!

katestamps716 12-01-2008 11:39 AM

I use DVD Tins and my label maker to label the side.

nestof3 12-01-2008 12:54 PM

Well, since I already have a Sizzix and many dies, I am using the plastic cases the large dies come in. I took all of my Sizzix dies out of the case and held onto them just in case.

They work perfectly for my Nesties (well, until the large rectangle ones came along -- those I keep in a SU case) -- one kind in each plastic case. I keep them with my Sizzix anyway.

deborahmegan 12-01-2008 02:03 PM

I got a package of the strip magnetic tape from Hobby Lobby for $2.99. I put three strips of the tape on the cardboard the nesties come on--except for two b/c I though of this after I threw the others away. I store them in a used priority box that I will eventually alter. It's so nice to have them on magnets!!

Krisalis903 12-01-2008 02:06 PM

I purchased a few plastic calendar cases (they're relatively inexpensive--about .39 cents each) online and used an adhesive magnetic strip to keep them all in place.

That's what I did. Then I used my Dymo LetraTag labeler and made labels for the ends.

kellybee 12-01-2008 03:06 PM

um, I just toss all of mine (I know I'm a bad person) in a smaller photo box from Dollarama. I keep my tan mats and shims in there too. Of course, I only have a couple of sets but I have no immediate plans to get any others for now.

Lollies 12-01-2008 09:09 PM

I store mine in CB cases, with a little bit of DST to keep them from moving .xx

Bellegirl 12-02-2008 04:49 AM

I like the idea of DVD tins...BUT can you get something similiar at Wal-Mart? I am reluctant to order as this will add to my cost due to the shipping.

I saw where one woman put the magnet strips down her closet door and they were all there, boy she had a lot of them!

wendykins 12-02-2008 04:57 AM

Here is Laurie Schmidlin's post about her storage, I would love this!

ShortWizard 12-02-2008 09:28 AM

I used to have mine in CD cases but found that wasn't working for me. I have a shelf with a round rail across the bottom so I got some binder rings and some S hooks, and now they all hang on their own binder rings. I have them separated by set - all of the round ones on on ring, etc. I will try to post a photo to my blog later this afternoon. I have seen some people use towel racks as well, I just happened to already have this shelf hanging up and it works perfectly.

stigmom6 12-02-2008 10:09 AM

I use the Magnetic Folders made by Quick Cutz. I get them at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon for $9. A bit pricier than other examples but well worth it!! If HL is out of stock find the Scrapbook gal and ask her to order them when she places the next order. They usually only keep 3 at a time in stock but will order you as many as you want. HTH!!

OK, here are some photos that might make it a little easier to understand.

Bellegirl 12-02-2008 10:31 AM

Wow...that's really neat! I sure wish I had the room to do something like that!
Thank you anyway as ...maybe someday...if I ever have a craft room, I could do this!

Ok, I am doing this when I get home tonight! Mine are currently tossed into a basket (divided section all by themselves) next to my other dies, but it's just not working out well.....gotta take all the big ones out to get to the little tiny guys.

binx 12-02-2008 11:08 AM

Depending on what you call "cheap" storage, this may do it for you: I store all of mine in plastic pencil boxes - the kind you get for .50 @ Target, WalMart etc. Haven't found a set that won't fit, and I have a mega set.

I also keep them straight by putting them on magnetic paper inside my boxes, but you don't have to do that part if you don't want to spend the extra $.

Wow, you sure have gotten some good suggestions - strips of magnets on a bookcase, how clever is that?

sprtchick 12-02-2008 02:16 PM

I also use the magnetic strip in CD cases...very cheap and nice storage.
Blessings.

Same here except I keep mine in a rubbermaid kitchen container.

kerbear 12-02-2008 05:29 PM

I store mine on a binder ring.

Kerry

kisa31707 12-02-2008 05:37 PM

I use the clear thin CD cases. However, I must try adding the magnetic strip because I think this will hold better than the double sided tape.

MamaSchwich 12-02-2008 07:22 PM

Well, I am almost embarrassed when I look at this picture... if I took a picture tonight, you would see that I have since collected almost all of the sets (except pinking circles, labels 2, and paisleys)... But anyhow, here is a link to my gallery. I have the same setup at Jackie, and use the binder rings, too (a big canister from Office Max for $5), and now my husband actually put cup hooks on the shelf front for me, the sticker hooks kept falling down. I think the hooks were $1.97 or so.
I used to keep them in CD and DVD tins, but it took too long to get them out. Obviously, I like to keep things out where I can see them, too...

I really like the hanging idea shown above. Hmmm... might have to think about changing things up.

In the meantime, I got a CD box that has hanging sleeves in it. Although this doesn't work for the long rectangles.

jbcmom 12-03-2008 03:14 AM

I put the magnetic strips in the original cases that they came in and hang them on the peg board in my room.

etsdas 12-03-2008 04:04 AM

For those of you who have placed the magnetic strips inside of cupboard doors ... Does anyone know if those adhesive strips leave a residue on the wood if you want to remove them, or just change the position? I like this idea but do not want to do anything that would leave permanent marks.

Mrs. Mac 12-03-2008 09:41 AM

So, I did the hanging thing with mine last night.......WOW!!!!!!!! No more searching thru the basket for the right size. They are all now hanging on binder rings on S-hooks on the rail from IKEA right where my Big Shot sits. I arranged them by type; scallop circle, oval, rectangle, etc.

Thanks for the tip Jackie!!!!!

Bellegirl 12-03-2008 11:09 AM

You know, the more I think about this and read through all of your posts, I am either going to store my nesties in those pencil boxes or put them on binder clip rings. I sure have appreciated all of your responses here. It's fun to see how creative we all are---even with our craft storage items!

Bellegirl 12-03-2008 11:41 AM

Gosh, do I wish I had that many nesties.....I just love them!!!! I must be weird because I really don't mind making the sandwich and running them through my CB.
