Default UM rubber?

Can someone clue me in on this new phenomenon?
I see website that have the acrylic stamps, and I just got a set in the mail from MFT. Now I am looking at some um rubber and you need EZ mount... no cusion?

Is the stamp image quality just as good on these? WIth just a thin piece of rubber and no cusion? How does EZ mount work?

Are all acrylic stamps "self-clingy"? Or do some need EZ mount, and some don't?

Thanks in advance! I'm new to the UM world.

Let's see...
The UM rubber stamps need something to hold them to the blocks for stamping. You do not need EZ Mount, but I prefer it. It is super sticky on one side of the foam and clingy on the other. So, you actually mount the rubber stamp to the EZ Mount. Now the stamp is ready for use with an acrylic block.

I have found stamping with acrylic stamps easier than rubber because you can see exactly where your image is being placed. The images seem to be just as sharp as with rubber. Although I only use Stampendous, no cheapos.

All clear acrylic stamps are self-clingy and you just need a block to hold them for stamping.

EZ Mount is a cushion.

Is the stamp image quality just as good on these?

If the rubber is deeply etched and well-made, yes. Some companies I know of by experience that are still high quality but either UM or premounted with EZ Mount are: Stamping Bella, Sugar Nellie, C.C. Designs, Lizzie Anne Designs... and this is by no means a complete list.

WIth just a thin piece of rubber and no cusion? How does EZ mount work?

EZ Mount is a 1/4" cushion that is gray (similar looking to SU! cushion) but one side is glossy and clings to acrylic handles. EZ Mount also comes in a 1/8" black version that is meant for small stamps or if you unmounted your SU! or other stamps and left the foam on.

Are all acrylic stamps "self-clingy"? Or do some need EZ mount, and some don't?

Acrylic stamps cling all by themselves, but some are better than others.

Thanks in advance! I'm new to the UM world.

I just mounted my new bellas on the thin EZ Mount & they stamped perfectly ~ I didn't know that thin EZ Mount was supposed to be for small stamps ~ I also mounted some pretty big snowpeople using the stuff & they too stamped perfectly...

So I guess the EZ mount stays permanently stuck to the rubber then?
And you remove it from the acrylic blocks?

I usually try out my unmounted rubber stamps by testing on a couple of kinds of cardstock. If the image is clear (*and most of them are) I do not use any cushion at all. I just put some double-stick scotch tape on the acrylic block and stick the rubber to that. When the tape loses it's stickiness, I peel it off and put on a new piece.

* A few times I have ended up with very thin rubber, which needs cushion to make a good impression.

This is the recommendation of the maker of EZ Mount - Sunday International.
