My SU paper snips are getting dull...
What's the best way to sharpen SU's paper snips? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Fiskars scissor sharpener and it works great! Just have to remember to drag the blade one way only.

i have 2 pairs of cutter bee's (very much like the SU! paper snips)...
one pair for paper and one pair for ribbon ONLY! i have tied a piece of ribbon to the handle on the 'ribbon only pair' so i can tell them apart easily.

That's a great idea. I have 3 pair of those non-stick cutter bee's; two from fiskars. I just have them around because I can't find any of them in my "NEAT" craft desk. Hehehe. But I find the Fiskar's one (the regular snips) are the ones that last the longest in maintaining their sharpness. I don't like the non-stick Fiskars one as much as the Cutter bee's ones. Also, I believe the Fiskars snips cost a bit more.

If the fiskar's sharpener doesn't work, you may want to try a knife sharpening business if there is one near you. They usually sharpen scissors, too. I only paid $5 to have some scissors sharpened.
I found a place through a Bernina Store. Since the sewing machine stores usually carry high quality sewing scissors (like Gingher), they usually know of a GOOD sharpening business.
I know the SU snips are not all that expensive, but I like my scissors sharp and want them to last! I do the same, mark them for fabric/ribbon and paper/cardstock. Paper/cardstock really dulls scissors!

You might try JoAnn's, too. I know mine offers scissor sharpening one day each month.

I tried to have my craft & rubber scissors as well as my fabric scissors sharpened locally and they did a terrible job! On the advice of some wonderful folks here at SCS, I sent them to On the Edge and they came back like new! I think they charge $3/ pr, and that includes shipment back to you. Here's the info:
On the Edge
112 Derby Downs
Spartanburg, SC 29301
864-595-1664
I had my scissors back within a week.

I took your advice and bought a pair of Cutter Bees today. They will be for ribbon ONLY.
I couldn't find a Fiskars sharpener at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Anyone know where else I could look???

i tied a piece of ribbon to the handle of my 'ribbon' scissors so i could tell the difference!
when i am at a stamp class or something like that, if someone asks to borrow my scissors i always hand them the 'regular' ones just to be on the safe side!
really sharp scissors make for nice edges on your ribbon

It's been a long time, but I think I got mine at Menard's (a big box hardware store).

Just an FYI about the Fiskars scissor sharpener. I used it to sharpen my KAI rubber scissors and when I sent them to KAI to have them adjusted, they sent back a note saying I had nicks in the blades and had damaged them.
They said the Fiskars sharpeners cannot be used with KAI scissors and the factory will adjust and sharpen them for $5 a pair which includes return postage. From now on, I will be sending my KAI scissors back to the plant. They did a great job and I got them back quickly.

Hey! Just a few days ago I went to my local Big Lots and bought the Fiskars Soft Grip Scissors for $5. Went to Wal-Mart yesterday to buy the famous GP card stock paper and saw that the same scissors there were for $13. Yay for me, I finally found a bargain! lol

The BEST home scissors sharpener is called Scissors Pro. It's an electric sharpener with two sharpening discs (coarse & fine), but the really great thing about it is that there are magnets where you insert the blades that hold it at the precise angle for accurate sharpening. I sew & quilt as well as stamp, and it's the only sharpener I use for my Gingher shears & scissors.

My SU snips are getting dull
It's been awhile since I bought my ScissorPro (Model 500), so I did a little checking. You can still purchase it at Nancys Notions for about $80. (I think I paid $45-50 when I bought mine 12-13 yrs. ago!) It's a good investment though if you use scissors a lot.
Just FYI, the ScissorPro is made by Edge Craft, who also make an awesome knife sharpener. Both the scissor and knife sharpeners are available at Sharpening Supplies.
You can access both Nancy's Notions & Sharpening Supplies on the web. Good luck!

You can take a machine needle, hold it between your fingers and
take the sissors like you are cutting the needle into. Do this several
times and it will sharpen your sissors

Scissor sharpener
Here is the Fiskars sharpener. I have been using the same one on every pair of scissors I own for about 28 years and it works great.

Oh My, my Kai scissors that I use for rubber are so bad, and I tried to sharpen them and it didn't seem to help--maybe that's why...do you have an address for Kai? Did you send a check with the scissors or do they bill you?
Thanks!

Sharp!
I send mine for sharpening to Jim Peterson. He charges $5.00 which includes return shipping. I've never had problems getting them back promptly and they work great upon return.
