Just received the MISTI yesterday for Christmas from my son. O.M.G. how have I not bought this earlier!!!

I went down to my craft room this morning to test it out and ended up making 10 Christmas cards for next year LOL, in no time at all.

I love how I can put on several stamps and stamp the whole card at once. What a time saver. Can't wait to use it some more.

Now do you NEED the cleaner that they sell or can you use other stuff (like baby wipes or wet cloth)?

I just use a wet microfiber cloth. Haven't needed anything else.

I could understand them getting away with a knock off if they changed it up in some way, by other than the name on it, its an exact copy! I'm not sure if the music is SU, but I think I've heard it on Connie Stewarts YouTube channel (love her!) and she's a SU demonstrator.....

The music is probably public domain, or one of Youtube's stock songs...

You're probably right, but I did check it out and Connie Stewart uses it for her Tuesday tip videos.

To my knowledge, China has no real copyright/patent laws, and knockoffs sold there can only be dealt with legally if they are imported and sold here. I believe if you don't hold the patent to an item in a particular country, anyone in that country can make and sell a knock off version. If they import it and sell it in a country you do hold a patent in, then they can get in trouble. If I am wrong, please do correct me.

It is. Kat Driggers has ordered them from India and is reselling them. She has sold out her first order and has a waitlist.

Yeah I saw that too... Kinda interesting.. I already have my handmade Misti from Illianna .. But this one doesn't seem that much cheaper when you add in the shipping and pp fees from Kat.. But it's widely popular since now she has a wait list too!

I have a MISTI from Iliana and I love it. I am also a IP Paralegal in MN. I am fascinated by all this talk of patents. Patent Law *is* very complex and I would love to figure out how this company in China is doing this legally.

Where is the link to get one from Kat? Would love to see how she is selling these knock-offs.

If I knew the Patent Pending number of Iliana's I could study this in more depth. I am sure that Iliana has herself a good Patent Attorney to help her get this patented. Until the Patent is finalized I don't believe she can sue the knock-off makers.

So if anyone can give me the info I will look into this further!

Long live the MISTI!

I love my MISTI and this whole situation really bothers me. I think it is morally wrong to steal someones idea and treat it as your own. Even if it is legal, it doesn't make it right.

The knock off doesn't really save much money in the end. They do claim they can be cleaned with Window cleaner, so either it is made with different materials, And I think it will be a matter of time before there are problems with the knockoff. What customer support are you going to get when your $5 cheaper version breaks? There is no guarantee that they won't completely disappear, as many fly by night knock offs outfits do.

It took you a year to get a replacement? And you are this chipper about the service you received???

You are much more patient than I would ever be!!

The whole story always helps Kat had several MISTIs and we replaced them at different times for different issues - one was broken, and one had the manufacturing defect. We are glad we could take care of her.

Maybe this is what she was talking about. I bought a big sheet of this and cut it down to use with the Misti.

I just looked at this video and all comments had been removed. Interesting. I will say it looks like it's better constructed than the MISTI. I especially like the etched grid lines versus than the Plastic sheet that comes w/the misti.

The misti is etched now too...she is having them made in China, guess they can do that there cheaper.

Personally I like the bible verse on the Misti, so would go with the Misti myself, although I have one of those non etched ones already, so won't be getting a new one very soon cause I can't afford another one right now. But if I could get a backup....I'd probably go with the Misti for that reason, if for no other. )

Default Price of the copy

I wanted to know more about the copy, because I think it is not ok to do so.
I just asked the price: its 70 USD + shipping. Can you imagine?! Especially when everybody advertise that its half of the original price. We dont know who makes it - children?

The price differs depends who is asking. They dont tell publically the price, you have to ask it in private message.

I am happy to report that I tried my MISTI for a second time with the large flower in the SU Rose Wonder set and was very happy with the results this time. I guess you just need to practice a bit! So I didnt wait a whole year only 11 months to try it!

Isn't the MISTI made in China now? It could also be made by children.

Yes, it is such a shame when something is copied. My Sweet Petunia's MISTI will still do well and people will remain loyal, I am sure. I am still loving my MISTI!

If i were to buy another MISTI, I would buy it from the vendor selling it for the cheapest price because my MISTI, bought from Illiana has cracks and, because it was bought before she could make her manufacturer replace it, I was simply out of luck. She did not ask to see it or see photos of it. She did nothing. All the stories of others getting theirs replaced are either bogus or Illiana is very unfair. And by the way, why are there so many pages on this particular thread that are duplicates, the same page over and over again?

Hi Bahb -

I'd be happy to look up your account with us and replace your cracked MISTI. I can assure you the replacements aren't bogus So sorry you have that impression.

Please email me through the website's contact us page or by clicking here and include photos of your MISTI and I'll start working on it.

We had about 1% of the original manufacturing process that crazed, and we've replaced them all. The new process eliminates that defect.

Anyway - I'm happy to take care of you - I just need your info to do so.

Hello Ladies - I am finally starting to drink the red Misti cool aid lol. I really want to get one but I keep reading about it cracking. I am wondering if I covered it with a ZAGG shield (you know the kind you put on your ipad so it doesnt crack or shatter) do you think that would work or help? I'm also a wiz at dropping stuff. So delicate items dont do so well with me. What cha think? Thanks so much

That's kind of interesting - I do use those on my phone - my house is all tile so I'm constantly smashing things - LOL. I have not dropped my MISTI yet though - I hope I don't jinx myself.

The crazing problem was a long time ago - it was from a manufacturing process that isn't used anymore, so you don't have to worry about it if you buy it now. (Although all acrylic in the world will craze with the use of certain chemicals).

I think with dropping it, you'd probably break a corner or a hinge, not the lid, but I love the Zagg idea - that stuff is a miracle!

It's hard to believe you've held back so long, the first time I saw the MISTI, I didn't hesitate. I've saved more in wasted time and product not to mention the frustration in ruined projects than the MISTI costs. My original MISTI, purchased when Iliana was hand making them is still going strong. Today I still consider my MISTI as one of my top purchases of all time. I love my MISTI and Iliana!

I just asked the price: its 70 USD + shipping. Can you imagine?! Especially when everybody advertise that its half of the original price. We dont know who makes it - children?

The price differs depends who is asking. They dont tell publically the price, you have to ask it in private message.
Both made in China. Wager to guess by the same manufacturer.

They did change it up a little. I compared my Stampaholic to my friends Misti and the hinges on the Stampaholic are a little bit wider.

Not an expert on patent law, but know the Misti is Patent pending. According to the U.S. Patent Office, a patent can take many months to get while the government researches to see if the product is a unique idea and thus patenable. Until a patent is issued copies are not subject to lawsuits.

The hinges being wider, color, or name still makes it a copy. It's sad when a person works so hard to bring a brilliant product idea to reality and a scrupulous individual or company steals it. I wonder how they can sleep at night. Personally I wouldn't buy one no matter what the price out of principle!

I fully respect your feelings, but this idea is not a new one. It has been around for many years in the Letterpress industry and is not all that unique. It remains to be seen if a patent will even be awarded on this item.

I too respect your opinion, and agree there has been variations of stamping tools throughout the years. What bothers me here is it is completely copied, with the exception of color, name, and questionably the size of the hinges. I strongly believe this is an awful attempt to profit from the hard work and sacrifice of a home crafter, and is unquestionably wrong.

I don't know how they can determine who came up with the idea first. Maybe the MISTI design was a copy of something that already existed. I am just glad to have a MISTI.... no matter who invented it. It has been a great tool for me!
