Please direct this question to Ilyana via mysweetpetunia and please report back on what you learn. People here can't answer your question, but Ilyana should.

And for the record, I hope all of us can have a little empathy and compassion for all involved. We're not looking at a multinational corporation looking to exploit ladies who love to stamp, nor are we looking at an individual looking to take advantage of a business enterprise. We have a fabulous idea brought to life with a fabulous tool by an enterprising gal, that might not be as perfect as we'd hope, but developed by a fellow stamper wanting to share her concept with all of us. Can we allow for less-than-perfect and help make it grow into something amazing?

(maybe I've had too much wine, but I finished my taxes and I'm treating myself!)

I'm in the same boat, but I've only had mine for a few weeks. When I do have time, I have no inclination to stamp. At least I have a one day retreat next Saturday and will definitely play with her then. Still need to get a case for her though!

That would be me! I bought mine 2 days before the warranty went into affect. Mine shows no sign of cracking so far and I'm thrilled with it, but yes, I would be upset if there were a problem and there was nothing I could do about it.

serindipity! Watching a video and it happens to include a smidge about a crack in the lid and Iliana's fast response. Lotta great tips about playing with MISTI, too.

Seriously, sorry to hear life has been busy. Hopefully it will slow down and you'll get a chance to craft. You will truly LOVE Misti!!! I don't know if you still make cards for our troops, but she would have been a big help 5 years ago when you did tons!!!! Relax and play a bit ... we all need that!!!
It always makes me smile when I see you on the forums. I did get my MISTI out of the drawer today and put the clear static film on both sides of the cover. Maybe tomorrow I can actually use it!

I have been so busy everyday working on rebuilding my website and learning the new software. It is so tedious and I have 1000's of items to add yet. Oh well, it will get done one of these days.

I do not send cards to the troops anymore but that could change if more troops get deployed. It was getting hard to get the names of people to send cards to. Now donate to 3 churches for their bookstores. Thousands of cards every year. Its such a pleasure doing what we love for the benefit of others.

big hugs.

In my experience with acrylic blocks, yes once cracks start they will keep growing and spreading and eventually the block may fall apart. I hope that won't happen to your MISTI and that the company can help you.

Can you post a picture of it? I'm curious to see it.

First let me say that I love my MISTI and would buy another one in a heartbeat if something happens to it. I bought mine in August and have used it a lot and I didn't notice that I was getting cracks around the edges until months later. I'm not happy about it but I figure that it was such a new design that I was taking a risk on what might happen in the long haul. I have a feeling that because the acrylic is thin that it's flexing when I pressed my stamp down with no support under the lid and I have a tendency to press a little hard when stamping. I've since changed my ways and always use a support under the lid when open and stopped pressing so hard.

I hope you get a resolution that makes you happy but if not, my fix for the tiny cracks was to apply a thin bead of a product called WeldBond. It sealed the cracks and they aren't getting any bigger. If you do get the glue, hold the lid up and apply the glue so it runs down into the cracks.

Has anyone experienced the hinges becoming loose on their Misti. I guess the plastic stretches and causes the hinge to wiggle both horizontaly and vertically. Has it eventually effected your stamping. I so want to order a misti, but with the problem of the grid wearing off, the cracking some people are experiencing and the hidges loosing up, I am apprehensive in ordering one. It is not cheap, so i would like my $75 investment to last a while.

Iliana makes it sound like the hinge problem is normal, but i still can't believe that eventually the wiggle could become worse and effecting the stamping lining up properly.

Believe me, I would rather be here than at WORK!!! But, alas, I need to work to pay for my stamping addiction!!!

Some of the stamp companies do drives for Operation Write Home so I usually have 2 to 3 boxes going. If I do not see any drives through the stamp companies I will just send directly to OWH. I have sent a few boxes to local nursing homes for the employees and families to use for the PATIENTS. I specify that I am donating the cards for the benefit of the patients ONLY. Employees can sign them to be given to the patients on their birthdays or if a patient needs a "pick me up" kinda card. Now there's no way to know if they are being used that way, but I feel better knowing that I specified it.

Sounds like you should wait and see how it goes.

If you put the clear adhesive sheet over the grid it will be protected from wear. I don't have a problem with the hinges yet so I can't say if there will be a problem down the line. I

My hinges are a bit loose, but I'm not having any problem with them. I want to show off my little girl's home. I took these pictures because of a conversation taking place on the group I'm in on FB about storing magnets. So it's time to show off. My husband made a cabinet for me with 46 drawers about 13 years ago to store some of my stamps and supplies, so the picture with her name on it is one of those drawers. I hope no one minds if I show off!

Perhaps ShariW could sell timeshares for the rental of her DH?
My MISTIlliana refuses to stay in a drawer. She claims to be a "free range" MISTI.

LOL! Mine is free range, too!

(but those shelves sure are purdy! Plenty of fun things could find there way in there, don't you think?)

I haven't noticed it yet with mine, but I probably haven't used mine as much as some folks.

I have one of the original etched MISTI's and I've used it LOTS without any of the few concerns mentioned by others. I understand you wanting a good product for your investment....I do too. I'm sold on the MISTI and even more so, Iliana's customer service if an issue occurs.

Iliana's short demo on hinges (loose hinges don't need to mean poor stamped images)

My hinges are slightly loose and it has only been used twice so they did not become loose from use.
Right now it seems to work OK.

yeah. The video shows this shouldn't effect your stamping at all. My hinges don't squeak anymore, but I'm not noticing any wiggle in the lid. I don't use the MISTI daily, but I use her pretty often.

I watched the video and Iliana implied that the lid can become lose with use . I simply mentioned that my lid is a little loose and has only been used twice so that is not a defense .
According to the video it should not affect the stamping , at least for now
If I close the lid with a "very delicate touch"

Oy! I wasn't looking to start a debate or argument over if, how or when hinges get loose, just wanted to share that it doesn't necessarily need interfere with a good, crisp, clear image.

I think it's good to know that the MISTI might not be perfectly golden, good to know that yours, Barb, came with a little give in the hinges from the start. I wonder if it's worth contacting Iliana about that?

Jeaniebean --it is no problem. I just wanted to say some are coming with slightly loose hinges. Mine was one of the last without a warrantee , but even without that I don't plan to contact Lliana . I am only using the MISTI very sparingly for stamps that are difficult to get a crisp image . For my regular stamping I am using my acrylic mounts so I can clean them with stamp cleaner and not worry about the grid coming off or cracking .

Does anyone know the current availability of the Misti? I am seriously considering ordering one, even though I will pay more, being in Canada and the dollar is down for us. I did not contact Liana as I figured she is busy and might not be answering emails at present.

Thanks
Shirl

I can't seem to get a good enough pic to post.

I think I read they'll start shipping again this week? The wait is never very long these days.

I talked to my local craft store person the other about MISTI. He was looking to purchase one and told me that they were only going to be available through the manufacturer (no craft store go-between at this time) and with all the attachments it was going to be approx $115. (subject to the exchange rate at the time.) Just a little out of my price range at the moment but they really look like a lot of fun. Oh well.....maybe later.

Thanks Lydia. I am still on the fence though, as I am worried about the cracking issues I have been reading about. I am not sure if all of the kinks have been worked out yet!

Great concept, but I made my own. I used a DVD case and thick fun foam attached to the backside (no hub) and folded the case close backwards. To hold card front in position I used removable tape. It may not fancy, but it works just fine for positioning (unmounted) stamps for a layout.
I'm just saying...

Mine shipped yesterday - ordered it mine on the 10th. My husband was so excited that it is coming. I told him he would have to wait until it comes before I show him how to use it and that he has to watch some of the videos! Reply: Smiley face - no problem! He's such a wonderful man!

If you only purchase the MISTI then it isn't so bad. I bought the MISTI and 2 magnets (shipping to SK Canada). There is an extra $3, I believe, for the international shipping insurance as well. I probably could have bought the magnets locally but figured by the time I drove around looking for them it was worth the extra few dollars. I didn't get the grid paper because it wasn't in stock that day and I don't really miss it. I can cut my own grid paper. I also didn't buy the NOVUS cleaner because I am sure I can find that locally. I haven't needed it so far. I have the cling vinyl on the outside and plan to get a piece for the inside so it should stay pretty clean.

They are also available from Simon Says Stamp and My Favorite Things. Depending on what other purchases you are bundling with (stamps etc.) it might work out a better deal shipping wise from one of these vendors. But yes - it is a luxury item, no denying.

Lol, lol... Sounds like a hefty investment once you calculate the extras... but if you divide it by the times per use... maybe you can justify it... I'm just saying...

Maybe I just need a margarita or something. 2 large stamps + 7 sentiments times 12.

Lol, lol... Exactly that's what I'm talkin' about and I'm not going down that road again.
