Okay so if you are taking the rubber off the wood... are you putting it on cling foam? or are you doing some ghetto thing with liquid glue or double sided tape to the neekid rubber? ( my unmounted rubber that is on cling foam (all of it is on cling) so, that it will stick to the insides of the SU dvd boxes... ( and so, I am thinking if it went neekid it would not stick and it would potentially curl up and become ruined over time?) so, then I start thinking OMG (do you realize how many years worth of stamps I own?) there is no way I would un-mount them all but, the double step ones on wood ( I never play with ever, I have considered letting go of them because of this) but, when you think about how much you have invested in just that pile of rubber boxes then you look at the cost of the Misti it was a no-brainer for me, but I think the cost of un-mounting everything I have and converting it would be prohibitive.

funny true story... I used to BUY blank neekid wood blocks for my stamps ( esp. the ones that they wanted you to put rubber on both sides) all of those sets have their own wood blocks

you see? that MISTI was a very slippery slope.

LOL!

So far, 99% of what I've unmounted, the foam comes right along with the rubber. It's just a matter of putting the clear film picture on top of the foam, and they're both sticky enough to not need any additional adhesive. (I nuke them in the microwave for 10 seconds, am patient when I peel them away from the wood block, and a whole set takes me about 10 min.) The skin that came along with my MISTI is now on the inside of the lid and holds the stamp just great, no adhesive needed. I have just a few nekkid rubber stamps, stored in plastic pockets. I've not yet used them with the MISTI, so I'm not sure what I'll find as far as getting them to hold, but I'm hoping the skin works with them the same way it works for the others. Also, I've never heard of nekkid rubber stamps curling, but that could just be that I'm not informed. There are stampers here who only use nekkid rubber. If you're worried, I bet a thread in the general stamp forum would bring them out.

side note: As people are unmounting, I hope they're finding cool ways to recycle that wood and not adding to a landfill. (I've got a huge bag of sticky wood and haven't quite decided how to play with it, but it's been fun letting ideas simmer in the back of my head.)

I had a LOT of wood when I unmounted.

I gave away the ones that had been used before. I packed in 12x12x6 flat rate boxes and gave them to whoever wanted wood blocks for the cost of flat rate postage. The PO clerk laughed at how I really got my money's worth with those heavy boxes!

As for the blocks that never had anything mounted to them...well, I kept a few to make a few helpful items for my stamp desk and the rest went to my grandkids as building blocks. They have a bunch of fun with them. There was a BIG rubbermaid tub...the 25 gal size...must weigh about 50 pounds.

KAT123-
JJ Bolton is a crafter and engineer who has a blog. (Sorry, can't remember the name of her blog but just GOGGLE her name. She is on the Avery Elle DT and also designs dies for them.) She was 'gifted' a MISTI by a friend and filmed a video with some helpful hints-IMHO. I know I am guilty of not supporting the lid when inking and cleaning my stamps and pressing randomly on the lid when stamping, perhaps these could have 'helped' cause the lid to break. So sorry your MISTI broke! I know these hints are too late for you but maybe helpful to others.

After reading the post of the cracked MISTI lid I put a thin piece of fun foam under the lid when it is open . I noticed when the lid is open there is a small space next to the hinge and between the lid and the table .

The MISTI is too expensive not to take all precautions against damage

ROFL!

Hey - you put your cling vinyl on the inside of the lid? You might want to get another sheet to protect the screen printing on the outside - or do you have one of the etched ones?

yep, on the inside. (unless the stamp is an older one that I did a coating of ATIOO, then I just set the skin aside. but for the ones I'm unmounting now, they're not sticky and the skin works great to hold them and I have no mess to clean up.) I'm not planning on roughing up the outside of the lid, and unless the grid is made of disappearing ink that we need to capture with a skin, I'm not seeing it going anywhere. (I'm keeping a close eye on it though ... just in case! )

and for those who haven't had a chance to see or play with a MISTI, it doesn't seem to be a fragile item. Seems very well made. I'm appreciating folk who feel like they need to keep it out of the light and be careful with the lid when it's open, etc. but I've worked around elementary aged kids and acrylic items before, and this seems like it's quality made and as durable as anything I've used in a school setting. It's such a new item, there's not enough time for a track record, so who knows, but I'm seeing it as a fairly durable item with a few freak product issues, not a fragile item. just my two cents.

I just felt the need to jump in for a quick sec in support of Kat123. She wasn't flaming anyone, just bringing some information to the discussion. She has a legitimate concern and it is totally valid to express it to what is (usually) a concerned and supportive community. I have and love a MISTI, but if what happened to Kat had happened to me, I certainly would have said something here, as well. There isn't any rule anywhere that only positive things can be discussed, and it's in EVERYONE's best interest to know pros and cons before investing in anything. I agree that it is likely a freak thing, but all the more reason to expect some after-the-sale support from Iliana & Co. I abuse my MISTI on a regular basis, but have had NO ill effects from that abuse. Kat was using hers in the manner it was designed for and had an issue. Instead of making her feel bad about it, we should be sympathetic - what if it happened to you? 'Nuff said, and carry on...

agreeing with Sue, 100% about this should be a place where pros and cons are free to be expressed, and that Kat, by sharing a problem, shouldn't be made to feel bad. At the same time, Iliana is new to this game, too don't you think? and I'm going to guess the situation caught her by as much surprise as it did Kat. I'm looking forward to hearing how it gets resolved, glad Kat shared here, but I hope we can also be kind to the stamper in IL who dared to share her awesome tool. She isn't Shelly Gardner, Gina K or Tim Holtz, right? I've been picturing her packing these dang things in her sleep trying to get them all out to people as fast as she can. Let's give them both a little slack. and hope we hear the end of the story and that it has a good ending for all involved.

Thank you to all who have been supportive of me and the situation I am in. I really loved my misti too. It is a very cool tool! But if the design has a flaw that takes five or more months to show, then that needs to be known or it could very well be I received the one freak misti That had this problem. I can't really afford to buy another, especially if it cracks on me again...and that bums me out. Just wanted to thank all of you who have been kind and supportive. I appreciate it very much.

Kat, I hope you try approaching Iliana again. It's possible that her manufacturer got a bad batch of acrylic for a batch of lids and they should be responsible for any replacement. Yours might not be the only one. Keep us posted.

I wonder if just the cover can be replaced? I wouldn't dare try to pull my cover off to see. It would be nice to know that we could order a replacement cover if needed. The base should last forever!

As for supporting the lid - I noticed today that I always hold my hand under the MISTI lid when I ink the stamp. I don't know why but I think it was instinctive that the lid needed support. However, I'm not going to go so far as putting the MISTI in a drawer to keep her out of the sun. I have 1/8" acrylic ink and pen holders that get sun and heat and show no ill effects after many years. I'm am not saying that this is a good idea for anyone else, it's just that "nobody put MISTI in a corner" - she must sit on my desktop waiting for her next love fest.

I asked if she could send me a new lid and she said no it cannot be replaced. If the lid breaks the entire thing is useless...it might be a good design change for the future to have a replaceable cover/ lid. Just a thought. My hinges on it have cracks throughout them also...so maybe those would have gone eventually.

I think there is always a learning curve for new things ( whether it is a tool or a car engine design or what ever for both the guinea pig buyers and the mfg.)(take my truck engine for example mine is a "new" design for Ford in 2012 and Hubs 2014 had more of the bugs worked out of it.
so, hopefully there are not too many people breaking these left and right and maybe the design will evolve eventually because of it. I am not looking at mine but, it instantly made me curious if the hinges were metal or not...

and I think I will be needing to get some foam to pad under the lid side just in case.
I am so sorry yours broke.

Yeah, it looks like the hinges are fused to the lid and base in some way. I'm OK with that. No screws to loosen up over time.

Kat, you've either been stamping in your lovely sub zero MN weather out on the back deck, have a gorilla who stamps with you, or have really bad karma! lol! (I shouldn't tease. If I were in your shoes, I'd be pretty upset, too. It IS a lot of $$ to spend and to have it fail on you so soon isn't right. When Iliana has a chance to collect herself, I hope she'll want to take a look at your MISTI to figure out what happened.)

Um ... you're welcome? Not sure what your objective is/was anymore. Are you wanting your problem to be resolved?

Kat123, I feel very badly about your beloved MISTI! My MISTI was purchased the beginning of September 2014, the etched version, and I've had no issues with performance. Unfortunately there's no way to really know how one cares for their tools, I'm just trying to see from Iliana's point of view. A MISTI was actually run over by a car and survived undamaged, sorry I don't have the link, and there doesn't seem to be others who have had theirs break. I think Iliana feels she has to consider finances and draw a line somewhere, and can't replace every damaged or broken MISTI on ones word. Please don't take my post personally, my only purpose is to present another view. Again, I'm so very sorry your MISTI broke.

As many as she is selling she could take care of her existing customers. And it isn't a cheap thing to buy. I DID not use a hammer. It simply cracked in normal use!
Hi everyone,
I've reviewed this issue and found that this case falls outside my product terms and warranty- it does not appear to be a result of a manufacturing defect. I have offered a discount as a courtesy despite that, and whether Kat123 takes advantage of that is up to her.

Default My conversations with Sweetpetunia

This is reverse order with my latest note at the top moving to one of my older notes at the bottom. I know everyone loves the misti. It is almost a cult like following, I did too! And I believe Iliana is very creative and has worked very hard to keep up with the demand for her product, she is amazing!

I'm tired of people blaming me for having hammers and gorillas and bad karma. I would have liked to have seen one of her huge stacks of misti offered me....but it's not to be and I will go back to my corner of the stamp world.

i did ask Iliana one last time if she could replace my misti.

Her answer was:
Iliana Myska
No.

The people on splitcoaststamper are encouraging me to contact you again. They feel sure you will make this right. So I am contacting you again. Will you replace my misti?

Dear Kathy,
I am sorry that your MISTI has broken. There is no way to replace the lid. It is one of the originals that I made myself. Unfortunately, to much time has passed since you purchased it from me to replace it. I am sure that is upsetting to read. I appreciate that you purchased it when I first started, it looks like it has been well loved.

I was removing a clear stamp. An odd girl stamp and it cracked from just pulling the stamp off! I freaked out. I didn't do anything rough or harsh at all!

Warm regards Kathy

Hi Kathy - now that the company has responded on Splitcoast, we require that you move this conversation off site and you two can correspond privately.

Thanks - let's return to the original thread topic.

Thanks so much to the kind commenter who posted about the Facebook group called MISTIfied. I joined yesterday, and have loved the comments and posts there. I only have one complaint about the MISTI: playing with it AND reading about it has definitely cut into the time I should devote to household activities!

I find that cutting out folding laundry really helps with this syndrome. And dusting is bad for your allergies.

The manufacturer has figured out the issue. I have been replacing the ones with issues as they present themselves

Thanks for letting me know. Yesterday I ordered one for a friend because I had decided the problems were a fluke since mine has been perfect. Glad it's all worked out.

This should be a stamp.

Well if I ever finish my studio remodel - I do have a rubber stamp that says "I don't dust, I Splitcoast". I'll have to RAK some of you with them.

OK, back to MISTI ... this is the video that pushed me into the 'must have this' group

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eBRLgDWtr_c?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

and then this ...
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tUxr6ccOHv4?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's too dang fun, playing with this new toy!

Just the facts - According to My Sweet Petunia website the 90 day warranty started on 2/23/15, as your product was obviously purchased before that date the 90 day warranty does not legally apply.

I hope you get a satisfactory resolution to your issue. As always I think this is a great product that has had a few teething issues.

On Sunday, I showed the members of my stamp group my Misti. I told them my feelings about it. I feel it is a good tool, but how usefull it is directly depends on the individuals style of stamping. After reading about the broken cover and there having been other issues, I will go back and let my friends know.
