Um. So I tried this. It was awful! I rolled and rolled and rolled that sucker and it's only half embossed! I moved to a different surface, twice! I made sure I had lots of leverage. Still no dice.
Does this mean I really have to go buy the cuttlebug???
Do you have a pasta machine? It will work on the widest setting of the pasta machine.
If not, here are a few tips I've gathered from other threads about using the rolling pin.
1) Spritz both sides of the paper
2) Putting it on a lower table might help with leverage.
3) Putting something soft underneath might help (mousepad, magazine, or fun foam)
yeah....I did all those. Still doesn't look anything but half embossed.
I have to agree with you. I had the same success (or lack thereof). I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, the only thing I can think of was the type of rolling pin. Mine was a mini wooden one barely wider than the embossing folder itself. I noticed that others who reported good results had marble rolling pins. Someone else mentioned putting a magazine underneath but that did nothing for me. I tried on the tile floor, countertop, table (with and without mag underneath). I even drove over it in my car and it didn't work!!
I have a CB,but tried this anyhow...mine came out just as good as the CB...and I didn't even spritz!!!! Also did it with a die!!! Maybe I have really good upper arm strength...or maybe I'm just overweight!!!!
Emily - I use the rolling pin with my CB folders all the time. I spritz the paper fairly well with water, put the paper inside the folder and tape both sides of it so the paper doesnt move!! Then I roll and roll - move the folder around and roll from a different angle. It does give your arms a workout but honestly mine have worked a treat each time!! Keep going you will get it!!

ROTFL!!!!
I guess my thoughts are: if I have to work *that* hard, the proper machine is worth the investment.
Emily, spare yourself! You are worth it!!!
Great results, for very little effort, every single time. ;)
And, secretly: I'm simply too lazy to fuss with a rolling pin. And, I have tendinitis. It's painful for me to even roll out cookie dough, so forget trying to emboss or die cut paper with it. LOL!

I honestly cannot tell the difference between the rolling pin, yes I use marble one, and the CB other than the CB requires less strength. Maybe some of you need to start lifting weights
I've got a little gadget today at Hobby Lobby $4.99 http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t...ring-tool.aspx. I've just tried it, you roll it around in circles and it seems to work quite well. My 3 y.o. had a go and got some OK results too. Cheaper than a CB for me!
I must confess - messing with the rolling pin is what FINALLY drove me over the edge to get the BigKick!! and I am NOT sorry in the least!! i even managed to emboss chipboard with it!!

Thanks Julie! I caved. Matthew said I could celebrate some good news and get it. So I took my coupon to Michael's today and got my bug and the Sliders die. WOOHOO!
Maybe it is the wooden vs marble rolling pin. I have a wooden one. I used spritzing, leverage, mouse pad, no mouse pad - and still got mediocre results until I really really worked it for about 10 mins. Then it came o ut pretty good. And I may be small, but I workout and I am not wimpy - still couldn't do very well, but it is a good ab workout!
