Question Martha Stewart Punches

Is anyone else having trouble getting the new M.S. border punches? I can only find them on e-bay, and they want at least 2x what they are worth. I live in the country, with no craft stores near by. HELP!

Frantic Stamper http://www.franticstamper.com/default.htm sells MS stuff online now, but some of the holiday punches are not in yet.

I wanted to get some of the heart ones at V-day but couldn't find them anywhere. Now I know where to go. Thanks a million!!

I've been trying to find the valentine heart lace border punch at several Michael's stores with no luck. Thanks!

I can't figure out how to use the border punches, if I have to use more than one punch in a row. How do you line it up so you know you are going to punch in the right place?

There is a guide printed on the punch - you make sure the punched part lines up with the guide.

It may be best to allow more width than you actually need; so you can trim at the best section of a cut pattern.

Punch somewhere in the middle. Move it a little left or right until you see the punch pattern show up precisely in the openings you have just cut.

Keep doing the same, but be careful to avoid pushing the paper against the punch stop.

Once you have punched through to the end, go back and finish the opposite side punching. Always be careful that the paper matches up with the punch pattern without any pressure on the paper. That is the hardest part: keeping the paper from moving out of alighnment.

When finished, trim the ends to best suit the design pattern.

I just picked the chick and the chick border punches at Archivers this weekend. I went nuts when I saw them.

I've been unable to locate the Martha Stewart Easter punches in any Michaels store. Has anyone seen them in a Michaels?

Frantic stamper had the best selection. There are a bunch of borders I'd like to get there. I was hoping Michaels would get the Easter punches so I could use the coupons but I'll have to get the Valentines ones from Frantic as they never did get them in either place here.

Thanks for the tip on aligning the borders. I sort of experimented didn't know there were guides.

Default Wa-Hoo GREAT DEAL!

I walked into a Michaels while shipping 2.5 hours south of my house and found the MS Valentine heart borders-both of them on clearance sale and with the additional discounts ended up costing me about $4.00 each!! I couldnt' believe it!!

Bought both and an additonal one for my friend for her upcoming B.D. Plus, also got the heart punch for about he same price...I could not believe it!! Now wish I would have purchased the LOVE punch as well, what was I thinking?

Love MS punches!
However, I must admit, I still think SU are a bit superior to MS..but love em
both!

Check out Scrappily Ever After for punches also. They have a huge selection and have a 30% off sale once a month. NAIAW but I like their products.

Sorry, I forgot to say that they don't have MS punches but some of them are similar to some of hers.

I just got that one today at Michaels but the Martha Stewart stock was way down. I also got the Fiscars stamp positioner and I really like it as I have a heck of a time lining up stamps as I do a lot of scenery. I'm not god enough to post as yet. The positioner was 40% off.

Default Only in my dreams..............

Gee, I sure wish I could get a Martha Stewart border punch in Australia. But even maybe with the exchange rate from the USA, it might be too expensive anyway! I see so many gorgeous cards made with them. If anyone knows if there are any stores in Australia stocking them, pls let me know, so I won't just be 'dreaming' of one of her punches........

Yes, there a few Aussies who would like the MS punches. I thought I had seen them once in a Big W or somewhere but they didn't have any when I recently checked. Also I have tried to email MS to try and find out if they are available here, but couldn't seem to find the right place to email such a question to! Will try again when I have time.

Default Border punches

Whilst I haven't found a supplier of MS border punches (yet!), I imagine with the US to AUD exchange rate, they would be REALLY pricey.
Just done a bit of a search on Fiskars products as I have their threading water punch and been very happy with it, and found that they have just released a whole lot of new border punches Woo Hoo!! Some are available on EBay Australia and are around the $18 - $25 mark depending on whether you get one that embosses as well as punches. Seen a few in Spotlight which have been $20 + . The cheapest ones I have found are from Regal Craft Cards who are based in Tasmania. They have heaps of all sorts of punches and because the Fiskars ones were $15 and they had what I was looking for which I felt would be more affordable than a MS punch, I ordered a couple. The postage was $6.30 on top of that. They have some really nice corner punches too. Just thought I would pass this on for all our Aussie friends in Cardmaking land

Do the fiskars punches cut good? I love how they cut AND emboss. I've just read negative comments about the way they cut.

Thanks for that JoBear2, I have one Fiskars border punch, the heart one and it is great, no problem with cutting. I will have a look at Regal Craft Cards.

Default Fiskars punches

I have 2 Fiskars border punches - the Threading Water punch and the Snowflake border punch which I have been using for about 6 months and have used them to cut plenty of cardstock in that time. Both of them work well and I have never had a problem with them. I guess I will find out more when I get my new punches as the designs are more intricate. I have had more problems with my Carl punches because they jam or I nearly break my hand trying to use them, or they don't cut cleanly & leave an annoying ragged edge no matter what thickness of paper or cs. Tried sharpening them by punching thru foil and sandpaper as recommended, but didn't make any difference.
Love my Marvy punches - expensive but beautiful to use and effortless - worth the money!
Someone posted on SCS not very long ago about how disappointed they were with their MS punches and returned them to get a refund - other people have had no problems. I guess it's like anything: you will always get the occasional one that's bodgy. I will post in this thread after I receive my Fiskars punches and have given them a bit of a workout, so give it a couple of weeks until I post.

I like the Marvy Uchida ones with the lever. They work really well. Havn't had any problem with Martha's punches but I don't use them daily.

Well, my Fiskars border punches arrived and I have used them quite a bit - they are just the cutting ones, not ones with embossing - and I have to say I am really happy with them. I bought the Lace and the Flowers punches and they cut my cardstock really well and the effect is really pretty. If you cut really thin paper, it doesn't cut very well and will jam up, but thicker paper is OK. For what I want to use it for, it works perfectly. I am so happy, I just ordered the Sunburst border punch.
