Default spellbinders

I own a Cuttlebug and want to begin using the nestabilities. Do I need those little brown mats? Not really sure how to use this product--so just going to jump right in.

You only need the tan mats if you are going to be embossing, and even then, you don't NEED them. I use a mouse pad I cut up and it works great after experamenting with a few sheets of CS.

For cutting, you just use the A plate and then sandwich the B plate then CS then die, then C plate. You can flip this sandwich if you want, but I do it that way so I can see any image I am cutting out to get it centered.

Welcome to the fun world of nesties!!

If you are planning to emboss your nestabilities, you will definitely need the polymer. I have heard that some have tried using plumbers gasket from places like Lowes or Home Depot, but for the best results, the polymer pads from Spellbinders are what to get. The best way to buy that product is in a 12" x 12" piece. That gives you the option of cutting the pad to the exact size you need.

If you consider that there will be no embossing in areas where you have no polymer pad, you can isolate just certain areas of dies to be embossed using a piece of polymer cut to size. It also helps if you want to emboss brass stencils. By using a piece of polymer cut just slightly smaller than the stencil itself, you will avoid having the outline of the stencil on your card.

You do not need the tan polymer mats. The plumbers gasket will do the trick just fine. I have both items and there is not a difference in the embossed product. Both look great and the same. Cheaper to get the plumbers gasket or shower pan liner from your local harware store. You can usually get it for under $2.00.
Blessings.

My plumbers gasket was $1.25 at a small "mom and pop" type hardware store. But you can get it at any of the home improvement stores too. The thicknesses may vary though, so as mentioned in one of the posts above - experiment to see if you need to add additional sheets of cardstock as a shim. I add one piece of cardstock on top of my gasket for embossing.
