Default What version of Cricut Firmware do you need to use SCAL?

I was all ready to buy SCAL and then started reading about Make the Cut. So now I'm debating between the two. Anyway, if I choose SCAL, what version should the firmware be? Mine is 2.0. Does it need to be updated for MTC too?

I don't remember the specifics, but updating the firmware is very easy. I heard that MTC updates "auto-magically" for you. But, in my opinion, that should not be the reason why you buy MTC. Some people are very happy with some of the features in MTC, but I heard SCAL just released some new updates. The reality, they are both good software programs, that makes you more independent. Whatever you choose, you will like it. Go for it!

I received SCAL2 for Christmas and it told me on the packaging which version of firmware that was needed. It may depend on which SCAL version you get.

You are fine with your version. If you go to www.scrappingtable.com she explains it all for you.
I purchased SCAL just before Christmas and am very, very happy with it. Have fun

Thanks ladies. So are you all satisfied with your purchase of SCAL even after hearing about Make the Cut? I think I read that SCAL has come out with some updates. Are those free?

I believe that one buy a "version" of SCAL, you can download the updates for that version for free. (at least I did for the previous version). You can download and try it. The basic difference is that when you cut, it will also cut lines so you cannot use your cut. However, you can get a feel if you like it or not. Actually, you can do that for both software.

Yes SCAL has come out with an update so if you bought SCAL today...it would be included. I believe it is version 2.006. If you already own SCAL the update is free. I have tried both SCAL and MTC and they are basically the same.
