Default Lighting your stamping space

What kinds of lighting do you use in your stamping area? I just have some crummy overhead lighting (and sunlight during the day, but I usually stamp at night). I was thinking about buying an Ott light, but I don't know if it's worth it. Any suggestions would be great.

Default OTT LIGHT

Invest in the Ott light, you can't go wrong. I keep one on my desk for stamping, and i wouldn't live without it now.

Yes, it's definitely worth it!!! I love my Ott light!! It's unlike any other desk light I've seen.

I found several models at JoAnn's - there were several with a range of prices and I didn't get the absolute top of the line model. Mine is a desktop-type, so I can move it to wherever I need the most light.

I'd say, go for it if you can!

Yes, I have two. The table model and the floor lite. You can use your 40% off coupon at JoAnn's. That will help. They are great!! Phyllis

I bought a full spectrum lighting/blue white light torchier for $99. It is just like daylight and gives off 70w. I looked at the Ott-lights but they are so expensive and they max at 20-25w (from what I have found). My husband says that most of the $ go towards the brand name. ( I don't know if he is completely right).

When I stamp at night, I forget that it is nighttime. I love it. I bought my third torchier 'cause I want it bright throughout the whole house.

Oh boy, I'm going to be the minority. I don't care for the daytime light bulbs. I tried it and it looked like it had a blue tint to it. My stamp desk faces a row of windows and it never looked like the light I get from my windows.

I use 2 clip-on swing arm lights with 60 watt bulbs. I haveunder cabinets lights for my counter, 1 small clip on that lights my Big Shot, and a pole lamp with flexible lamps that I can direct into my closet or at my paper.

I'm not happy about the placement but it does give me light where I need it.

My electrician just shook his head when I told him how much I had paid for the light bulb he accidently broke. He told me that I could pick up the same kind of light (minus the "name") at Lowe's. That is what I use now, but I agree with the poster who saw more "blue"...with the OTT and the cheaper version I see blue, but it seems better than the yellow I used to get with regular bulbs.

I love my OTT lights too. Recently got a really cute ceiling light but realized it is more decorative than useful. I have to turn on my regular lamp too now when it is dark out. I plan to hang another light in the room somewhere but for the actual crafting work I love my OTT. I have a floor standing one and two portable ones. The portable ones come in really handing when I'm painting 3D stuff.

I believe I need to get the OTT lite right away. But what model do you all get? I don't want to get the wrong one. Any help here? Thanks.

I picked up both a floor standing model and a table model for no more than $70 at Big Lots..
I would rather spend my dollar for stamps , etc.
I do find the lighting to be just fine.
If you are on a limited budget I would suggest you look into the ones at Menards or Lowes .

Another vote for the Ott Lite. I just got the "goose" neck one and I can't believe how much difference it makes. I actually get to see the real color of my inks and papers. I was working with a table lamp and didn't realize how dark it actually was.

I am also one that enjoys the Ott light. Just be aware that there are 2 bulb versions- a daylight one and a true colours one. Paper and fabric artists need the true colours one. Many of the office places sell the daylight one, and although great for reading, it does not give you the true colours.

Love my OTT Light. I have a floor lamp with the "daylite" bulbs in it and there is a tint to the light compared to my OTT lamp.

I have two Ott lights (13 watts) and a 24 watt knock-off that I got at Costco. I love all of them! I can't tell any difference between the brands. It's just fantastic to have all the light.

I splurged and bought two of them for a my Christmas gift to myself this year, I have NO idea how I lived without them. I was getting headaches every time I worked on cards in the evening. I haven't had a single headache since I got these lights.

These are the two I picked
Floor lamp
Desk model

these are 40% off right now but keep your eye open at JoAnn's, I got them at 50% off and free shipping! That was at Christmas like I said but I've seen the 50% off since the holidays!!

Good luck! You won't regret the purchase.

Joann's also sells a brand by the name of Normandy. The regular $$$ is about half the price of the OTT light - use a coupon & you've got a great deal. I have a desk lamp with magnifier& a portable (flip). My floor lamp is OTT but only because it was clearance priced around $50 (about a yr ago) - it's in my 'home office' space. I couldn't work without any of them.

The Joann's in my area (Washington) is having a sale on Sunday the 13th and all OTT lights are on sale for 50% off. This is how I got my table lamp for $89 which was an awesome deal at half price! I love it! I also recently added a flexible track system to my ceiling. There are five lights that can positioned anywhere you like. I found it at Home Depot for $99 and these two light systems are wonderful!

Default Ott lite

I have used my Ott lite since 2000 and I love it! It is one that attaches to my desk and has a flexible neck that I can move in any direction or pose. I saw that someone has had problems with shadows but I have never noticed that. With a coupon from J's or Mike's you could get it at a good price. Very well worth it.

FYI, My DH and I saw a small Ott lite at Costco the other day for about $25 that was a desk lamp with a flexible neck. So you may want to check there also.

I saw the ones at Costco and didn't buy them because of the low wattage. I don't own an Ott either. Maybe I will go check them out again. Are they bright enough with such low wattage?

I have two ott lights on my table. and I'm looking towards getting on that clips on to clip onto wall shelves in the darkest corner of the room.

love theses lamps so much that when Joanns put the floor lamps that look like real lamps on sale i bought two for my livingroom. ( it really makes it handy to color images at night on the sofa by among other things...)

Guess I'm in the minority, too. I have a nice OTT floor lamp with a gooseneck, and I never use it. I just can't seem to get used to it. I have a floor lamp with three lights on it. I turn two upward for general illumination and one down to light the table top. I do use those Reveal (purple tinted) bulbs, though. I Love Them. I have throughout the house!

I had 2 - 4 foot fluorescent (2 tubes each) banks installed in the ceiling. I have an OTT light on my desk . Works for me!

I have 2 OTT-lites and love the color but my room is so dark that I feel like I'm constantly moving and angling my lights to get true light. I have these 2 lights and they're awesome by I seriously move the light as close as possible to my space to be able to work

Cindy, the smaller one is 13W and the larger one is 27 I think. Even just the 13W provides wonderful task lighting. I got the larger one and it's wonderful.

I too love my goose neck grey colored Table Top Ott lite with an electric outlet in it for my heat gun..
My hsband also said it wasn't worth it price wise.
He suggested I purchase natural light bulbs at Home Depot or Lowe's. He however isn't crafting, I am :}
I used a forty percent coupon online at Joannes and got free shipping as well a few weeks at he the start of the month. I think with 5% tax it was $63.00

I first bought the 13 Watt and it worked well. Now I have a 23 Watt floor model Torchiere which I love even more. Check out the Watts first and the floor lamp does not take up your space on your workspace which is even better.

Just ordered my first ott from Joann's. Can't wait to get it. Joann's is having 50% off ott-lites and free shipping right now.
