Let's Talk Eyelets
Does anyone else hate these things? I've invested about $300 in eyelets and eyelet setters and hammers and mats and the whole shebang, and I hate every last one. I never use them anymore and always use brads instead.
Can we just ban eyelets??? (LOL) |
I like eyelets and use them quite a bit. One thing I'll do is use two eyelets, one each on two corners and thread a ribbon through and tie in the middle.
I also like to use them when I make tags. I put one at the top of a tag a then thread a ribbon through it. |
I still like 'em! Sure, brads may be easier, but sometimes an eyelet is perfect!
I agree with Cindy - that's usually how I use them. I love eyelets!
I rarely use my eyelets. <sigh> Every once in a while, to thread something thru maybe, but not *nearly* as often as brads! In fact, I won't let myself buy any more eyelets until I've used up a bunch! :-)
I felt the same way until I bought my crop-o-dile. It is wonderful and I have regained my use of eyelets! It's one of the best investments I made recently (with a 40% off coupon at Michaels). It sets them beautifuly and quietly! Now I'm using eyelets a lot.
Ditto on the crop-o-dile!! Bought mine with a 40% coupon at Michael's as well - I have tons of eyelets that I just wouldn't use anymore. Love that little ugly machine!!
Carla. |
I use an eyelet setter by eyelet etc. It is springloaded. Once does not need a hamer to us it. With this, I have come to love those eyelets, which were once so frustrating for me to use. :-) LM
I use my eyelets on tags too. I do use brads much more but still love eyelets. I didn't go big on supplies though, just the setter and DH's hammer for me. I do reach for them if I don't have enough brads the right color.
I'm going to have to vote joan on this one. I can't stand eyelets. But I'm eyelet challenged as I've never ever been able to get it to stay. It always pops off on me.
I have both eyelets and brads and YES brads are better! You just can't beat the simplicity of them. You poke a hole and BAM it's in. No noise or muscle required. I think eyelets are on their way out!
Yep, gonna have to give a cheer for the Crop-o-dile -- it has totally revived my love of eyelets! So easy to use and they set perfectly everytime. It's nice to be using them again as I too own a billion of those babies!
I learned a little trick today......but I think it only works with SU eyelets, because they are aluminum (or something like that, basically, they are softer).
Anyways, you use the 1/8 whole punch to make a hole.......insert the eyelet, and use the 1/16 punch to set it from the back!! So easy!! |
I like them. I think comparing them to brads is like comparing aples to oranges.
Sure the orange is a pain to peel, but ................ M |
I like both alot. And I like to do my eyelets the old fashion way--setter and hammer. Especially if I need to get some frustration out!!
I have hardly used any eyelets lately, so I've been challenging myself to find ways to use them (if nothing else, to use them up! ;) ) I've been finding places to use them while scrapbooking, mostly.
Ditto on the Cropadile. I was using the Provo Craft Silent Setter, which did get me using them more than I had, but now with the Cropadile, it's a breeze! I know I'm going to be using eyelets so much more! It's amazing to me how such a huge, clunky-looking tool can be SO easy to use! I thought it would be really hard to squeeze, especially with my hands, but it's not!
I don't care for them either. Brads are way easier. I will occasionally use eyelets that are cute shapes. Or maybe I just buy them thinking I'll use them???

I use to feel the same way about eyelets! I kept them tucked away, until a bought a CAD... and now I want to add them to everything.. :p

It's both. It punches 3/8" and 1/16" holes, and sets eyelets. It also sets snaps, I think.
I love my CROPODILE!
If I want to set an eyelet inside then I put them through the layers then glue the whole thing to my page/card. It is awesome! I makes 2 sizes also which is nice. |
I LOVE Eyelets.......
Okay ladies - I love eyelets too - they're only a pain when dh has already gone to bed and I can't use them! So if they're sitting up on your shelf not being used - send them my way! I'm all out of white and in search of some!
CROP-A-DILE!!! I was about to chuck my entire eyelet collection. I hadn't used eyelets in ages. I hate the hammer method and the silent setter by MM didn't work for me. I read about the crop-a-dile on here and bought one in hopes of salvaging my eyelet collection. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It works so well and easy to use. Buy one, you'll love eyelets again. :)
I haven't ever had a problem with them except for the JoAnn's Scrap Essentials brand and the heart ones I got from Wal-Mart. I use SU, Making Memories (use these two most) and then have some I purchased off QVC. I use the Making Memories Kit and don't seem to have difficulty setting them. Those JoAnn's ones and the heart ones STINK. I can't set them to save my soul. I even once got my big hammer out and still couldn't get the metal to flower.
I do prefer brads though for most projects. I wish SU would just sell black brads separately.I seem to use those up before the others.

I do like eyelets but I tend to use brads a lot more.
I was ready to put my eyelet collection in the yard sale at my LSS when I was introduced to the Cropadile. I am LOOKING for opportunities to use eyelets now!! I also use it to punch my holes for brads, etc.
Silent and smooth as butter is all I can say........ |
I like eyelets but rarely use them. I like snaps a little better and wish SU would give them a shot. Anyway, for a time, I bought new eyelets everytime I walked into a craft store. When I signed up with SU, I stopped buying from other sources and bought even more from SU, that I rarely use. I want to use them, it's just the hammering. I actually enjoy it but stamp mostly at night now and it's bothersome to my family. SIGH Just another reason why going back to work stinks. :D I'm reluctant to buy a setting tool.
I had not used eyelets much until I 1) got a crop-a-dile and 2) started doing ATC's. There isn't much room on these little things so literally lashing on embellishments is a good option. And I like to finish the look of the hole with an eyelet.
Nina |
I love eyelets!!! As a matter of fact, with my Michaels' 50 (yes 50!!) % off coupon, I'mm off to buy a crop-o-dile!
Well, I decided to use eyelets this morning. I've decided to make an effort to use up all my old eyelet. ;)
I love love love love love eyelets! Don't have an alligat....I mean cropadile, or whatever it is, lol.......sounds cool, but for now my little hand-helds and hammer are doing the trick.
OK - I'm the strange one who actually likes eyelets (especially with my C-O-D) better than brads - though I do use both. I'm always sticking the prongs of the brads up under my fingernails (OUCH).
