Spellbinders Paper Arts Get the Knowledge! Blog Frenzy - One of the previews is called Wonderful Wings. Of course I want this set badly because it's beautiful butterflies. I tried to include the picture but it didn't work. This is the blog where you can see them
There are 10 dies in that set! Aren't they pretty? I love butterflies so I think this will be at the top of my list! Hopefully I can get them on sale somewhere or get the hubby to buy them for me as a present!:cool:
I haven't been at this lovely craft for much more than a year. I'm wondering whether or not the butterfly is a fad that will go away or is it one that will stick around in cardmaking and stamping for awhile.

I bought the mini set of butterflies and the solid dies to match and they are beautiful.
Plus you don't need to wait LOL
Be sure to watch the video on how to cut the complete solid butterfly. You get 1 wing or half of the butterfly . You cut it out and then you turn the CS over and tape the wing down and cut the other side to get the complete solid butterfly . It is easy

Could you please post a link to the video. Also, I'm confused, is the set with 3 dies one that has the solid and more intricate die included? I noted on the site they mention that there are matching dies for each butterfly. So..if the 3 die set doesn't have both solid and lacy in it that means I have to buy two sets? Hope I don't sound like an idiot - lol. Thanks.

Iharnish - I don't think it's a fad. For me, even if it is I'll always buy butterfly stamps, dies, etc. I'm a bit of a butterfly fanatic. You would think with all of the butterfly things that I have that I wouldn't want more. Nah! I can never have too many butterflies. I have a butterfly tattoo on my shoulder. She's been there for 25 years. Got a little faded but she was redone, made bigger, and we're both happy - lol.
I just did a little math (which I suck at by the way) and unless you buy the really small Cheery butterflies a butterfly and the matching wing comes to about $23.00. So, when you consider that the Spellbinders butterflies are 10 dies in total, even at $60.00 that's only $12.00 a pair. Not bad. It's just the initial outlay of $60.00 that hurts. I sent them an email and asked if they would be selling them as individual sets. I think not but it doesn't hurt to ask. They would probably get more customers doing that. I have a birthday coming up the end of August but I'm really bad at waiting for something I want. I may just have to do a birthday gift to myself - early.
Which sets are you looking at that would be $23?
The $14.90 I spent were for the set of 3 butterflies AND the set of solid wings . So there are 6 dies between the set of the intricate ones and the solid wings.
The New Spellbinder butterfly dies are larger . The smallest one is 2 & 1/2" and that would be quite large for a card. I would need to use it as a focal point and I generally use butterflies as an embellishment
If you bought both the small and medium size sets and matching solid wings you would have 12 dies for $32.80 plus S&H
I have not used mine on a card in my gallery, however I just measured them with MS Monarch Butterfly punch ( the big one) and the Cheery Lynn ones that I bought are just a tad smaller than that. They are as wide, but not quite as tall. They are more intricate than the punch .

I just checked the S&H at Cheery Lynn and it looks like it would be $8. They have a $5 handling fee and then shipping up to 8 oz is $3. There is a shipping calculation on the site .
So both sets (12 dies) with S&H would cost $40.90 . That is $6.82 per pair.
I have the old Spellbinder Butterfly die and like it. When I bought the ones from Cheery Lynn I wasn't looking at price , they were the nicest ones on the market. I don't think price should be the sole criteria for buying anything. It should be which ones will you like and use the most

I was looking at DL115 $14.95 and DL115A $7.95. I like the larger set you mentioned. Thanks for pointing it out. I didn't check the measurements on that set.

Wow that one is huge. It is 4" x 3" It would occupy nearly the entire card.

It's amazing how things come full circle isn't it? Wonderful Wings is a great set of dies designed for Spellbinders by Donna Salazar, one of their licensed designers. The ironic part of these designs is that as far back as 2006 Spellbinders has been doing that very concept.
The original dies using the technique of a main die and a shadow die were also butterflies and they were part of their "reflections collection". It was so long ago that the SKU number on the product was S3-038. How long has it been since you saw S3 dies for sale? lol Back then it was 2 small dies on a plate for $10 and now it's 10 separate dies of various sizes for $60, not a bad price at $6 per die.
After that they did Ornamental Reflections, which was one of my favorites, Angel Reflections, and there were also Christmas ornaments and bells that I remember.

Spellbinders designs the best butterflies! The Butterfly Reflection die was my first Spellbinder die that I owned! Of course, I have a new favorite, the Nested Butterflies Two that were released at the beginning of summer! The new Wonderful Wings butterflies would look great with the Nested Butterflies Two, wouldn't the?

I have a glass block nightlight I decorated with some of the Cheery Lynn Designs butterflies. The side that has the one butterfly used the medium Exotic Butterfly 3, the side with the two butterflies uses Exotic Butterflies Small 2. I used vellum to cut out the coordinating angel wings between the two layers of the butterflies and colored it with dye ink markers so the nightlight shows through the butterflies. The block is about 6 inches square. There are other samples of butterflies in my gallery.

One note on the Cheery Lynn Angel Wings. These are just a bit smaller than the coordinating butterfly die. Because the butterflies are mirror images, the right wing matches the left, you can die cut two butterflies then sandwich the angel wing between them. Then the front of the butterfly looks as pretty as the back, it has all the detail on both sides. I have a sun catcher I made with the largest butterfly in my gallery. I sandwiched vellum between the two bodies then colored it with dye ink markers. Be sure to purchase the Cuttlehug with your dies from Cheery Lynn. It makes the intricate dies cut like butter.
I haven't sent my order in for the Cheery butterflies. About to do that now and I was going to go to the Frantic Stamper's website to do that. She sells a metal (thin) adaptor for the Cuttlebug. It's on the same page as the butterflies so I'm assuming it's a good idea to use with these dies. I don't usually need to use a shim when I use my bug, unless I'm embossing Nesties. Should I order this too? I want to place one order to avoid additional shipping charges should I need it. Thanks.

Yes, most definitely get the Cuttlehug, it makes cutting all the intricate dies so much easier, even Spellbinders. Sandwich would be;
A plate
B plate
die face up
paper
Cuttlehug
C plate
It will be tight but I have used it for quite some time with no ill affects to my Cuttlebug. I also have a Big Shot and a Vagabond as well and always use the Cuttlehug for intricate cuts like butterflies and doilies. Plus, by cutting into the Cuttlehug, it saves your plates. The Cuttlehug will get dented but it in no way affects is ability to work.
Thanks so much. I also noticed on Cheery Lynn's site that they also have a metal embossing plate. I'm just going to order everything from them. Frantic Stamper has been having trouble with her website and this will just be faster and easier. Thanks again for the information.
I went a little crazy. I ordered a total of 21 butterflies. I got the two small sets with the matching angel wings, the medium exotic and the match for that and the butterfly bundle of 7 butterflies and it's matching set. Yeah I know, a little obessive/compulsive when it comes to butterflies - lol. Aw what the he## it's only money. Who needs to eat and pay bills? LOL. As long as we have dog food for Duke and cat food for Mushy and Daisy, we're good. I had to call Cheery Lynn's because their new Butterfly Bundle which is 7 butterflies, didn't have any dimensions. I only got a few because I didn't want her to bother measuring all of them. So, here's the info I have..2 1/4 x 1 1/2, one is 1 7/8 high and another is 1 1/4 x 1 1/8. I have a feeling they may fix that and add the dimensions because Jeannie didn't realize there weren't dimensions for it. So I think I've got enough butterflies for a while. They ARE going to have a new release for them in the future. Uh Oh!!
I just happened to find this while looking at butterfly photos. It should probably be posted in the Lists section but since this thread is about butterflies I'm posting it here first. I have an inkjet printer and it wasn't cheap so I can justify replacing it with a laser printer. Had I known you really can't color in an image printed on inkjets, I would have purchased a laser printer instead.

I am not sure in all cases you need a Laser printer
I have never used digitals, but wanted to try them
I have an inkjet HP OfficeJet 6500 and I printed a couple of free digitals and colored them with Copics . I had no problems with the ink bleeding or smearing.
I printed them on Hammermill Color Copy Digital Cover #80.
Maybe the paper is the problem when using an inkjet
