My name is Michelle and I am a paperholic. ;) How do those of you who have this same addiction store your paper? I have tried plastic drawers, plastic sturdy expandable file drawers, etc and just can't find anything that I'm happy with. I need to be able to easily put it away in a closet.
Can anyone suggest an easy way or suggest a good not-too-expensive product to use for storing paper?
Also - what do you do with your "scraps". I keep adding to a big manilla envelope and using little pieces when I need them.
P.S. I'm sure someone has asked this question before - I just couldn't find a thread on this topic. Feel free to direct me to it if you know of one.
I have a normal file cabinet in my closet for 8.5x11 and a cropper hopper on wheels for the 12x12. This takes care of my solids only. I have a hanging folder for every color, and keep the whole sheets in a tabbed file folder in each hanging folder. Behind the file folder, but still in the hanging file is where I drop all the scraps.
I would love to organize all my prints similarly,...but for now I have my prints in a couple of clear 12x12 expandable folders, with a dozen built in dividers. I think I bought it several years ago at Michaels. It holds probably 150-200 sheets of paper. I have them sort of arranged by the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, brown, black). It works easily but if I keep buying paper, I'll have to have several of these...it would be harder to manage then.
I use a mobile file cart that I ordered from Staples: http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/st...:CG34:CL141699
If you have room at the base of your closet, could you slide that in?
As for scraps, I use an expandable check file that I got at Target. It has pockets so you can sort scraps by basic colors (blues, greens, etc) and it will stand up by itself on your table. Hope that helps.
I have stacking file cabinets for the cardstock. But the growing pile of small scrap paper had to be organized. I keep a small basket by me while I work, and all small pieces go in there. Then every couple of weeks, I sort out by colors, and put in gallon ziploc bags. Then if I am off to McDonald's with the grandsons, I can grab some ink spots, stamps, and a bag of scraps.
I saw at WalMart a hanging canvas sweater organizer. Had the shelves where you could fold and stack sweaterts. It is 12x12 size, 3-4 shelves. I was looking at that to stack paper in. Would hold a lot, hang in a closet. Was very inexpensive. May have to give it a second look.
I got all of my organizing supplies at Michael's or AC Moore. I won't tell you how many of them I now have! Now to find something to store my ribbon in/on! It has gotten out of control.
Thanks for all the great ideas!! I hadn't thought about the rolling file cabinet, but I think that would work great!! Easy storage in my closet!
Any other ideas - keep 'em coming!!
Those of you that store your paper vertically - aren't you afraid the paper will get bent at the bottom? I would like to put mine in hanging file folders but I have worried about this.
I love what I use and hey it came with a dust cover lol. I slid it into a corner of my closet and stuck the cover on it so hubby wouldn't see exactly how much paper I have lol. Eventually I am putting some page protectors on the side for the scraps but haven't got that far just yet.

I store my vertically (and have for several years) and have never had a problem with the paper bending at the bottom. My paper holders are full though - maybe if they weren't full this may be a problem?
I use a regular plastic file box (from Walmart) with standard hanging file folders for my 8.5"x11" (grouped by color family) and the Cropper Hopper Class Tote on the Rolling Cart (extra storage for other stuff in plastic shoe-box size bins below) with plastic hanging file folders for 12"x12" grouped by theme/collection. I also have a rolling cart from either Target or Walmart that has storage box drawers to hold other 12"x12" papers. This is kinda hard to get the papers in and out, but it is strong and dependable.
I like the CH tote and cart best (especially the plastic hanging file folders), but, of course, it costs the most!
I use the cropper hopper vertical box thingys...like the ones SU! sells too. And for my scraps...I have a file drawer built in on each side of my desk. The one on the left is for SU! scraps sorted by color name and the right one is for all my other brand scraps just sorted by general color. I need to buy some shelves to store my paper holders in though. I have waaaayyyyy too much paper and no more room!
