Here is an example of a beautifully tied bow with the cute button in the middle. How do you tie something so perfect? My bows always look crummy no matter how much I practice- waaaaaaah! I want to make pretty bows like this someday- please help.
I can't view the picture, but I have always been bow challenged. I ordered the Bow Easy and now my bows look great. You can get it online from places like Gina K or Stamp and Create or SCACD for around $5. It is a great little plastic template that you use to tie the ribbon around and then you get uniform looking bows.
After looking at the picture, I don't think the bow is actually "tied." It looks to me like it was just folded over, and then the button was attached in the middle to make it look like a bow. It looks very pretty with the ends so even and flat, and it's a lot easier than actually tying the bow.

Do you think she tied the string through the button and around the bow to adhere it and make it flat?
I've been wondering about this technique for some time now and decided to go ahead and try it with the glue dot my result is HERE. But when stood up (as depicted in my picture) the weight of the button pulls the ribbon down. Just makes me wonder if the glue dot is in fact the best way of accomplishing this technique.
Thanks for all the replies on this- glad I'm not the only one that struggles with this. I agree that the better quality ribbon gives a nicer looking bow too! I'm off to go visit kittikraft's tutorials on ribbon tying! Wish me luck!!
Pipergirl, I can't tie a great bow to save my life but I did go and explore your really cool blog!
Thanks so much for the really great comments "TOM":mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen: (I don't know how you fix that either- but it really made me laugh!)
THANK YOU sooooo much- that is exactly what I was looking for! Now I know just what to do- must go practice and see if I can do it correctly!
Another tip.. and this works especially if you're tying the bow on a layer---
Punch 2 small holes close to each other and thread your ribbon through the 2 holes, then tie your bow. No need for glue dots, and your buttons won't pull the bow down.
You could do this on the base of the card too.. it will just have a little bit of ribbon showing when you open the card. This can be solved if you line your card.
I have a bow easy and the pic you show, looks quite the same as the bows I make with it. (with a button glued in the middle) I got my bow easy at susanascustomart.com and resquested first class shipping which was like 1.00.
My father-in-law has a saying: "Give the laziest man the hardest job, and he'll find the easiest way to do it". I don't know if this is me or not, but I looked at the video referenced above, and that looked too much like work to me, so I just put a tutorial on my blog for my don't-tie-a-bow-but-still-get-a-bow method. Maybe it'll be helpful...
After looking at your first sample I think the bow was sewn. Fold the ribbon in a bow shape and use a running stitch from the bottom ties to the top of the bow. Pull it tight and fasten it off. We used to make these bows for baby bonnets years ago but used to sew a pearl where the button is. Fasten the bow to the card with a glue dot. I have also used the tines of a fork to tie small bows. Hope this helps..there are so many good suggestions here.
