Embossing powder does get old, although you wouldn't think so. I remember opening a jar of gold I hadn't used in years - ooh, the smell!
I love WOW embossing powder, all colors, and Ranger Princess Gold. I don't care for Zing EP because the granules are too large.

I am loyal to Stampin' Up! powders but I was in search of some colors SU! doesn't have and
got Ranger powders from scrapbook.com. I am totally satisfied with the colors and quality.

I was also going to recommend WOW! e.p. They have a great Opaque Bright White, and is the whitest white I've ever found. Comes in 'regular' sized grain, as well as detail.
I have heard of zing and Wow. I am thinking these are both products I would have to purchase from my independent scrapbook/cardmaking retailer. So far I have only checked Michaels with no luck. Presently vacationing in Arizona where supplies seem to be getting harder and harder to find. Not sure if I should try Hobby Lobby or Joanne's for WOW. I did see a white Ranger brand at Mikes but passed . I know a lot of people like Ranger products but all my pens and distress inks dry up almost immediately. After banging my head on the wall 3 times with their products don't want to go for 4. Many people very happy with this line, but just does not work for me.
I'm in LOVE with Gina K Design's embossing powders! She doesn't have a huge amount of different colors, but what what I have of what she does have I use all the time, over the wow and ranger ones I have. So far all I'm managed to get are the white, black, silver and gold...but hope to get the others eventually too. I use the white and black almost all the time I love it so much! :-))
Be wary of the distress embossing powders. They are supposed to stay grainy not "melt". I didn't like this look. Luckily mine were on sale and I only have 2 colors.

I have Zing and Wow embossing powders, and a few Ranger's. I like the fine gold, silver, bronze, and I think it's platinum in that line. I had a powder go bad, but can't remember what brand it was. I use those small silicone and charcoal packs found in the newly opened medication containers to keep my powders fresh. I bought a bunch of them from Amazon, cheap, so I can change the old for a new ever so often. I just know I've not had any go bad since doing it. The next time you open something and there's one inside don't toss it out, stick it in your embossing powder.
I popped into an independent store on week end looking for EP. Found they had three different types of white Stamendous embossing powders. Owner advised that unfortunately one of them was what I needed. I had no idea there were that many types of textures of embossing powders.
I'm glad to hear that WOW makes a real white. I have bought several labeled white and they turned out to be vanilla. I just didn't notice that they didn't look really white in the container.
I know what you mean. I have at least half a dozen jars that all claim to be white- as well as the Stampendous, which was always my goto brand. Then I saw a demo at a craft show, where she was using the WOW Opaque Bright White, and the difference was obvious.I also like the fact that it's available in different grain sizes, so you can get an superfine for when you may want to emboss a fine detail image, and also a regular grain, for not so delicate images, along with an Ultrahigh, which is a chunky powder suitable for Triple Embossing.And in two different jar sizes, so if you know you are going to use a lot- Christmas Snow scenes, for instance, or maybe Wedding stationary, you can get a bigger jar. They do three shades of white, so just make sure to look for the Opaque Bright White, and you will not be disappointed. Wow! Thanks so much for sharing your awesome tips about putting those small Silicone packs in your Embossing powder jars to keep the moisture out and also about buying those small silicone & charcoal packs on Amazon!
BTW. I love these embossing powder brands. Gina K, Altenew, Brutus Monroe, Ranger & WOW & I also love ❤️ the WOW Exclusive color line for Catherine Pooler.
I tend to buy what I can find on sale or clearance. Lately, I have been using EP's in my coloring books. I have fallen in love with WOW! They are a bit more expensive and the jars are small. A little goes a long way. The colors are so pigmented.
The nail art girls have been using a lot of Recollection EP's and mixing them in with inclusions. Those are some really beautiful powders.
I haven't been in a craft store since the outbreak. Have no plans to go, lol. I have been ordering a lot of my powders online. No specific retailer, just anybody that has the best price on the colors I want.
I like hero fine detail(smoother than regular and for sentiments) Wendy Vecchi colors for them are nice.
Wow does have a very wide range of colors and covers well. They also have some ultra high for higher profile.
I am looking at my swatches and it is true. The wow opaque bright white next to Ranger super fine, hero and Brutus monroe alabaster is brighter and cleaner.
Brutus monroe's Penny is a great copper and the sterling is a strong silver.
Lindy's Gang midnight copper is a lovely dark dark copper
Lately I have been into more unusual ones.
Hero: Sand
Ranger: speckled flurries is a B&W mix mostly black. verdigris, brick,
Wow: dixon green is like a dark verdigris, queen of hearts (metals, red, black and white) One hundred and one is also black and white but this one is mostly white and thicker
Andy skinner has done a lot of very cool ones-and you can build on them if you want.
Satin sunset and granite are the two I have but they have a lot more. Some look a lot like stone or granite.
I am sorry we lost Sparkle and Sprinkle (SNS). I liked their Indian Corn.
Clears sparkles EPs are interesting bc they act differently on black than white cardstock.
Ranger Bridal tinsel gets silver instead of white with color flecks
Their holographic gets a very blue tinge on black
Hero sparkle becomes very blue green on black
Lindy's gang peacock goes very blue green but does not have glitter in it
The SNS glow in the dark on black paper-no. But it works on white.
I have to test the Brutus on white but black-no.
Disappointing as I want to use this idea on black CS.
I'm a fan of Tonic Studios white embossing powder and can usually pick it up at a good price from scrapbook.com. They also have a 'fine detail' (also by Tonic) ep that's outta sight when you can get it. I also have Wow and like it as well. I think I got it from my local Michaels if I remember right.

Jennifer McGuire did a "Embossing Powders and Folders" category in her "My Favorite Crafty Things 2019". I'll put the link below in case you like watching videos. The info on EP's starts at seven minutes. To cut to the chase, she said Hero Arts is her favorite brand because she's been using Hero Arts EP's for 15 years and never a problem. She said other good brands are WOW, Ranger, Brutus Monroe and Simon Says Stamp.
PS: I have a terrible headache right now, or I'm sure I'd have gone on and on with more details. It would have been a loooong post you'd have to read through just to get a simple answer to a simple question. LOL

Happens all the time. Esp with classic products like EPs.
We need to keep talking about them bc stuff changes all the time. Since this thread started, Sparkle and Sprinkle closed and I liked them a lot. They had a huge color range.
And a bunch of the ones I listed did not exist then.

So many are equally excellent: Ranger, Hero Arts, Wow. Not generally what I use, but for texture/metallic and a translucent vintage beeswax, Seth Apter’s, made with Wow and Emerald Creek: https://www.sethapter.com/catalog/my-embossing-powders
(I’ve met several people in real life who have taken his classes, and everyone raves about him, including my LSS owner. He also has on-line classes.)
Also translucent, Tim Holtz embossing glazes make black and other colors underneath them pop and sometimes shift - worth watching a video to get the best use out of them, including backgrounds.
