Default inktense - pencils vs blocks?

Now that I have begun to dabble in mixed media, I decided I HAVE to have some inktense pencils. I love that they are waterproof when dry. But while looking at them, I see they also have inktense blocks. The description on the site says they can be worked over when dry, but does not specifically say they are waterproof like the pencils. So I am wondering if anyone has them, or even better, has both the pencils and blocks and can give me some input?

I have both!

The blocks are great for:
--backgrounds and larger areas.
--any kind of technique where you need to use the pigment to mix in water (sanding into a wet area, inking a misted stamp or embossing folder, into water on your craft sheet for backgrounds similar to wrinkle-free distress, etc.
--layering (they're waterproof as well - same formula, just a larger format)

The pencils are great for watercolor work and detailed shading. They can also be used dry and even blended with a solvent like mineral spirits.

thanks so much Dini - exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like I may need both! Although I do already have prismacolor pencils... so maybe I should just start with the blocks, and go from there....

I had to have both. I stalked them on Amazon until I got a great deal on the 72 set of pencils and the 72 set of blocks. It took a while, but I was really happy with the price.

That's a great price. The larger sets can be discounted further with a coupon code, too.

In one video it's recommended to have one set to use wet and one dry, for whatever that's worth!
