I'm thinking of purchasing Inktense pencils. I make cards, and have three colouring books I've received as gifts. I coloured one page with my Zig Clean Colour markers, but don't want to use them up on colouring books. I like the look of the intensity of colour with the Inktense pencils. Just wondering if there is a thread on this already, and if so, could someone please direct me to it. I'm wondering if I'll be happy with the 36 pencil set or if I should purchase the 72 set. I see there are some very nice colours in the 72 that aren't in the 36 - cadmium yellow, burnt orange, aquamarine. Wonder if I'll regret the 36. Price is pretty good on Amazon right now, but I'm holding off because of a potential postal strike in Canada this week. Thanks for your help.
Go for the 72. I started with 24 and ended buying all the rest. Now I have 24 duplicates. 310 mid vermillion is great for skin, and it only comes in the 72. I did see the set on Amazon for $113. I think I paid $150 at Currys. I go to a class once a month and my daughter is now addicted too...lol
Don't forget that you can start with the smaller set and just add individual pencils and colors you feel you can use. Dick Blick has good prices on individual pencils: Derwent Inktense Pencils - BLICK art materials
Enabler here...Go for the 72 set! I have the set of 12 and it is NOT enough colors. I want the set of 72 but since I recently bought the Zig Clear Color I feel the need to wait to buy the 72 Inktense.
i got the set of 36 because i can mix colours anyway, but i was disappointed with the quality; i prefer my albrecht durer watercolour pencils. for colouring books, i'd probably just use coloured pencils.
I have the 72 set and I wish they had more colors! They are wonderful to work with. I love them. Not sure if they would work well on a coloring book page as you are supposed to get them wet so the coloring page may be too thin paper.
But for Neenah cardstock - wonderful.

What was it you didn't like about them? Just curious.
I have the 72 set, wish it had even more colors (I'd like more pinks & aqua/turquoise). I bought mine a while ago, and really just started using them. I think they are wonderful! The way they look, when you take a wet brush to the coloring is amazing!
I bought mine from Dick Blick, waited for a good sale with free shipping.
Hi Contrapat,I purchased the set of 72 and absolutely love them. I agree that it would be nice to have more pinks and aquas. They even blend well on cheap paper like some colouring books. I made a colour chart to make it easier to choose my colours as they look so different once you add water or a blending pen. I also won't use them up as fast as my Zig markers. A little goes a long way. If anyone is on the fence about these pencils I say go for it.
Yes,go for the 72! The greatest part about inktense pencils is that intense are permanent when they dry and you can color over with another medium and not alter the intense!
Thank you Fionna51 for the notice! I bought mine when I read your post!
