I was wondering about a light box/table
Hi! I have two light boxes that I have bought for dry embossing. Both of them are not very good, but then they were not very expensive either. I thought the Fiskar one would do pretty good, but it is not much better than my little cheapy. I have been thinking about buying the one that SU sales, a light table. Does anyone have this particular light box, and would you care to tell me if it is worth the price? Does it light up good? Are replacement bulbs ones you could basically buy anywhere? I was just wondering.
I have this box. I love the size of it. I am not sure about the replacement bulbs as I have not encountered needing another yet. I think it is fairly pricey personally, even with my demo discount. It is fairly lightweight, but it is big. I wish all lightboxes were a lot brighter. I find that I can really only dry emboss with light colored cs.
There is a newer one on the market, I can't think of the maker at this moment but is it a circular one and turns (think lazy susan style). I would concider purchasing one of those with a micheals 40% coupon.
Before you make a huge investment, I would concider how much you'd really use one. I had to have one, and have used it once.

Thanks for your response. I will have to find that circular one and see what it is. I really haven't looked much in the stores yet. I am an online shopper, except when I can get my hands on a coupon. I remember when I first discovered dry embossing, I took a class at a local scrapbook store. I used a light box there that belonged to another person taking the class. It was nice. It was bright, and I could see right thought dark and light papers. At that time, it was all new to me and I didn't even think of checking the name of it. I actually figured that they were all pretty much the same until I got the two I have. Like you, it is hard to see through the darker papers with my boxes. Thanks for helping me out. I will check out that circular one.
I recenty bought 2 cheaper light tables and they were no better than the little plastic one I had for $10. The one I love I bought from the quilling susperstore. This is the same model as SU!. I just love it. For the first time I can emboss through dark colored cardstock. Well worth the investment to get a good one that will last forever and is nice and bright.
I find that the SU box is not bright enough & I'm a demo who has been unable to find info on replacement bulbs. (Though I still have to phone, but my bulb's not bright as it is so why have two, lol)
You can get them at art supply stores and they are more affordable there. You could also take a piece of dark cardstock in and test it out in the store. HTH, :0)

You don't need a lightbox to emboss cardstock - if you lightly run over the backside of your cardstock with the stencil under it, you'll start to see the outlines of the stencil and you can then use your stylus to follow those outlines.
I'm just as likely to use mine for tracing as embossing, to be honest. (I have the Fiskars one; no complaints)
This is the mfg. of the porta-trace but they don't have any info on replacement bulbs. I imagine you could write them for information on where to find replacements.

Hey, I appreciate all the response I have gotten. This is great! I definitely am not buy the one at SU. I really like that desk light table! Too cool! I could not justify buying that one, though. It would be great to have, but afraid I wouldn't use it that much. Guess I will continue looking. Thanks again!
