I need a little shimmer
 

I need something that is not glitter but will give me a little shimmery highlight. Something I can apply to small areas just for a little emphasis. Any suggestions?

Copic Spica glitter pens are AWESOME for this. So easy to use- just use like a pen/marker to color or highlight the areas you want to emphasize.

OR you can try Blingz or Shimmerz. You paint them onto the areas you need. I think they have a bit more sparkle than the Copic pens, but they need more time to dry and can bend the paper slightly.

I'm no expert...but have read a few of the threads here and done some experimenting on my own. First off I transferred some of mine into mini misters to get a finer spray. I also line a cardboard box with either white or black card stock to catch/contain the overspray. You can use that paper as a background, mats, or punch outs, etc. The box is important if you don't want to "contaminate" your work surface/other projects/etc.

Then I spray my project but have learned (trial and error) not to aim at the project I want to glimmerize but to lightly mist above it and let it "rain" down on the item. Sometimes it does not look like much until it dries. You can add additional applications or layers. I try to wait for them to dry so that you don't have lots of pooling. Your paper may curl while wet...that is normal.

How about some twinkling H2O's... love those for a spot of shimmery color!!!

My first thought is twinkling h2o's, but if you don't have those, how about some shimmery chalks? Are stickles too close to glitter for you? i adore stickles!

All of these are good suggestions, but a cheap and super easy one is the Sakura Stardust pen. I purchased a two-pack at JoAnn's for like $4. Its just a shimmer, I use it a lot to go over sentiments or even handwritten notes. I love it! Plus it doesn't take a long time to dry, and its just a skinny, little pen so easy for storage. It has a star on the cap, so you will know which it is. They also make colors in the shimmery pens, but the Stardust one is the best.

This is the first I've heard of the spica glitter pens by Copic - I must check them out! :cool: Do any brick-and-mortar stores carry them, or is it strictly a mail order item?

I also recommend the Sakura Stardust pen. It gives a lot of shimmer and is super easy to use and control where you are putting it.

Boss, I have seen the Copic spica glitter pens mostly at stamp stores. They should be in the same section as the Copic markers. I have not, however, seen them at Michaels or Joanns. Hobby Lobby may have them, though.

Me too! SUPER easy to apply - just use a paint brush, which you rinse clean with water when you are finished.

A lot of online retailers carry them, MFT, ATS, LAD...

You can see the shimmer on some of the dreidels in my Hanukkah cards in my gallery if you wish.

Does the Sukura stardust pen come in colors and what is the stardust color? I guess I have never noticed them before.

I had a pen once that was glue with glitter with probably a silver look in it and it was fine so could put it where you wanted. But I can't remember what it was called and haven't found it since. Does any one know what I'm talking about?

Also how does Shimmerz come? in colors? in a bottle like paint? What is it exactly and where do you get it?

The Sakura Stardust pen that I have is called clear, but it it really isn't clear, it leaves a very fine, goldish line that glimmers. It is fabulous for adding a bit of glitz to pine needles on a pine bough or a sparkle along the edge of something. I wish they had one that did the same thing with a silver glimmer, but I haven't been able to find it.

I agree. I am not a bling girl so I don't have any of the other products listed her. But when I want just a touch of sparkle, I use my stardust pen. My favorite one is the clear. It doesn't add any color, just a bit of sparkle. I also have a silver and gold one. They glide so smoothly and work well. And not too expensive either. I bought my clear online but the colored ones are available at Michael's.

I love my sakura stardust pens, especially when used with an aquabrush!

Glimmer Mist--one tip I forgot
 

Don't mean to hijack the shimmer thread. Someone asked how to use the Glimmer Mists. I totally forgot to put this in my post....but it may be helpful to you. I get about 4 BBs (like you use for BB guns...I suppose you could use heavy beads, or ball bearings, etc) and put them in my glimmer mist bottles. This helps them mix a whole lot faster and get the glimmer dispersed into the liquid. For the mini misters I put in 2 BBs. ;) I ssent a PM to the person asking but will post info for anyone else that might be interested.

i stumbled onto the other colors in search of the clear one... LOL

they DO have silver!

they also have gold and MANY other colors. i got all but my clear one at my joann's store here in town. i got the clear one from joann.com

MomisMama, if they are not called the stardust pen, what are they called in
the other colors? I saw some that were called metalics that were colored but wasn't sure if that was the same.

Thanks for the info, I'll check into it. I wonder if the silver metallic will make a solid heavy line, unlike the clear stardust which leaves just a whisper of goldish glint. I don't know if my JoAnn's carries these, but as soon as I can dig out of the driveway (more snow:confused: ), I'll check it out!

Stickles and glittery gel pens get my vote too.
I also like to use the Shimmery Cardstock from Stampin' Up! for watercoloring. GIves it that shimmery look with out any extra effort.

Thanks for those additional links ... I "planned" to include all the links but my cat started biting the keyboard LOL! His "Daddy" just got home and let him into "his" office ... I told DH not to give the cat a human name (it's Fred) 'coz he'll really think everything is his ... I was right (again ;)).

Anyway, I really like the stardust clear because it gives shimmer yet permits the underlying color to show.

I love the Spica glitter pens. I have the Stardust pen as well but the silvery shine sometimes covers up the true color under it, whereas Spica doesn't. It is subtle and pretty, I won't be without them ever! Bought the whole set, but the clear can be used anywhere if you only want to purchase one color.

I love Shimmerz, too. There are *so* many options for just a little bit of shimmer. Twinkling H2Os, Sakura Quickie + loose glitter, Stardust, Spica. . Love 'em all!

Shimmerz techincally is paint, but it is very thin and watery, he consistency of a reinker. they come in these little "pots" (like you used to get lip gloss in when you were younger? the kind you put on with your pinky finger?) You just dip a paint brush in and use - easy! A little stroke adds TONS of shimmer and since you don't need much it lasts a while.

It sells for around $4. I have seen it at LizzieAnneDesigns.com and Allthatscraps.com though I believe it is also sold at Jacksonbelle Embellishments (all the retailers and the color list are provided on the company blog: http://shimmerzpaints.blogspot.com/ ).

I also like Stickles a lot, but think they provide more of a 'sparkle' than a 'shimmer'.
