Question New Stamper? Where do I start?

I was just wondering, from all you that are long time stampers, what where would you recommend a new stamper to start? What kind of supplies are the best for the money and such. I have some little stamps, mostly kids things, from my kids stamping. I am interested in doing cards and making some of the things you have on the site, but I don't know where to begin. I am on a limited budget, I can not just go and buy anything I want, I have to start small and work up. Anyway, just thought I would ask here and see what I could find out. Thanks so much for your help. :-D Angie

I would say call a SU demo in your area. Their stamp sets are very reasonalble. I hardly ever buy stamps at craft stores, as they are usually pretty high just for one stamp. Having a SU Party will get ya some free stuff, plus the demo can help you decide what you really need to start with.

i agree that having a party is a great way to earn some free stuff!

i suggest starting with a stamp set and an assorted pkg of CS. a couple ink pads and some tape runner!

go to the gallery and pour over the sets you might be interested in. find a set you love and then buy it!

usually before i buy a set i come here to get some ideas of what people are doing with it.

good luck and most importantly- HAVE FUN!

Advice I wish I had gotten before I started stamping:

Don't waste money on cheap inkpads! I can't tell you how many pads I bought from Walmart and Big Lots that my 3 year old now has in his "treasure chest".

There are things that are important to some people that don't matter to others. I must have good inks. I also need good coloring tools because I don't color well, and cheap stuff just highlights how bad I am!

Embellishments can come from anywhere, but the base cardstock has to be heavy.

You don't need everything you see. I have yet to learn that lesson, but I know it in my heart.

Have fun! This hobby so quickly becomes an obsession!
