Default How to make glitter stay in place?

What can I spray on my card to make glitter stick? I don't want to cover it, like with glossy accents. Hair spray didn't work.

Thanks, Tara

What adhesive are you using on the glitter? I find that a PVC-type glue (like Aleene's, Flower Soft or Scrap Happy Sheer Glue) works best for keeping my glitter on the card. If I can I also rub the glitter into the glue with my fingers. You can't do that with all projects but if its a big enough spot of glitter its worth the extra mess!!

I make glitter stick by getting it on my face, elbow, clothes, or where I don't want it on my card. Sticks great to all those surfaces. ;)

Lydia, I have a can of the tacky spray on its way - thanks for the recommendation and the link. I love glitter but it is really, really annoying when it keeps coming off.

The only glitter that really seems to stay put for me is that ultra fine glitter ritz which is so fine that it's almost like a powder.

But now "look out glitter cuz I'm gonna spray you and you aren't going anywhere" bwhahahaha

I gave up trying and went to the glitter/glue combo that I just squeeze out and let dry. Found a boat load of them at Hancock fabrics in the clearance section for .38 cents. I bought them ALL!

If you want a glittery spray, rather than something to seal glitter, can I recommend the ones on this page; Crafters Companion Spray & Sparkle? I found a US site for you, they are available here in the Uk, and they give a lovely subtle glittery coating.

Gave up on regular glitter too. Hated the mess and the glitter constantly coming off no matter WHAT I used for applying it. Now I use glitter glue/Stickles and glitter embossing powders. But, I'm going to try sequins for bling! I have some that are almost 50 years old that I used with beaded Christmas ornaments that I made in my teens. Proof that everything comes back eventually!

Glad I stumbled on to this thread............although, I seems there isn't an answer to this problem. I tried a craft ink pad at first to hold some ultrafine glitter. Set the whole thing in the sun to dry. Nope! All came off. Then I painted with a glue pen over the craft-inked letters, put on MORE glitter, let dry and..........*sigh*
Now it's all coming off.
I'm covered in the stuff, as is my floor, but my scrapbook page? Nope!
I'm sure that if I even touch the letters, the stuff will just rub off.
This is so frustrating.
Does anyone know if there is something to seal the glitter on to the page AFTER you have glued it down? Thanks for any tips. I really loved my page until this mess. :(

Cheers,
Stacy

Thanks, Lorri. Can't use tape for this particular situation. I've already stamped the letters and "adhered" the glitter to those letters. I wanted the glitter on the stamped letters. So, I guess, at this point, I'm looking for a way to, maybe, seal the glitter so it won't keep coming off. In the future, I will use other things to hold the glitter.
Where do you find that tape? I see you are in Canada. Is it available in the states?
Thanks!

Glossy Accents, maybe? I have encased it in clear triple embossing before now. I had a bottle of embossing fluid refill, which I put on top of the glitter, then a couple of coats of UTEE.

OK I didn't read the issue very well but I did go and test Gina K's technique on a die cut. I need to edit and write out my results but versamark and embossing powder are the way I will do it in the future. I did have to re-ink my die cut and reapply embossing powder a few times to get the thick result I wanted. I then sealed it with embossing powder. I like it. It looks like I started with glitter cardstock!

How long does it take for Stickles to dry? I used it today for some cards I wanted to put in mail and it's still wet. Do I need to dry it with my heat gun?

Thanks!

I use Krylon Make it last clear sealer. You can get it at M's. You spray it on after you do your glitter thing. Make sure to spray it in an open space because of the fumes.

Probably not. You will find out the hard way that Stickles melt! Unless they are the distress colors.

I tested the Gina K video technique and blogged about it. I will attempt to post it here.

I have always pointed people in the direction of Gina K's tutorial because I trust Gina. I really do.

I decided it was time to put my money where my typing fingers are and test the technique.

I started with an extra die cut I had.

I inked it by pressing it into my Versamark pad making certain it was really covered.

Then I ensured both the tops of my detail clear embossing powder and glitter were removed. I knew I need to act fast to get the coverage I wanted. I covered with the embossing powder and put the excess back in the jar and covered it.

Then I went ahead and put my glitter on my paper in a thick mound.

I heated the embossing powder and put it in the glitter. It mostly covered. So I tried to reheat it and didn't get a reaction so I reinked it with the versamark and more detail clear and dunked it again and really pressed it in the glitter. Then I left it.

I went back and re-inked it with Versamark and covered it with the detail clear and let cool to seal the glitter. Very little is coming off now. I mean scrub it and maybe one little bit is coming off, so I am very very very Happy with this technique and will definitely use it again.

I did get some glitter on my Versamark pad. I used some masking tape and lightly dabbed it over the surface to collect up the glitter on the pad.

Hope this helps those looking to get glitter to stay on.

I may try to stamp an image and see how it works that way. I think with clear stamps and/or a stampamajig there is no reason why someone can't get really good coverage and seal the glitter in with this method.

Thanks for all of the input and ideas, everyone! This is great. Please keep 'em coming.
I will TRY to get a photo of my scrap-page to show you what I'm referring to in my original note. I'm having a LONG week here, so it may be the weekend 'til I can actually DO that!!
Love the balloon. I bet I could have embossed my letters and then sprinkled them with the glitter.....hmmmmmmmmm!!! Hate to redo my page though.

OK, gotta run.
Just wanted to send out a bit THANKS!

sometimes I use SU's version of stickles, (can't remember what it's called) and spread it around with my finger. I like SU's better because it doesn't clog up at the tip like other kinds do.

Bring back up an OLD thread here, BUT - HELP please!

I have one set wrapped up & two that were made up years ago. Anyone remember the SU! kits for the Ho-Ho-Ho silver glittery pieces to make up into a banner, or whatnot decoration?? So, my problem is that stuff just sheds silver glitter like CRAZY! I did use one Ho-Ho-Ho using the smaller letters in the kit putting them in a (M's) sale frame which I decorated inside and on the outside as well. That one is not an issue. Because of all the glitter that shed EVERYWHERE the first year I made these, (and I do LOVE glittery items), I haven't pulled them out since. Now my one niece who's getting married is asking for a few for her house for the holidays, but also if I can do something to stop all the glitter mess. I suspect, or at least HOPE, that I can just quickly spray a sealant one these, one side at a time, and then move forward with creating a series of the things she's asking for. BUT which sealer?

I tried a smaller piece earlier with a can of Krylon's clear sealant (need to check the can again), but it's still a glitter fest with that piece. Did another small piece using Modge Podge on top, and while OK, still not great and I'm worried about losing the SUPER glitter look that she's after. Suggestions?

All of the other glittered items she wants I'm going to make out of our glimmer paper, but by golly she really wants a couple different decorations using both the large and small Ho-Ho-Ho from the kit, and is absolutely in LOVE with the very large size letters each comes in, especially how I used them when I had them up years ago. If she wasn't looking for such large letters, I would simply use my alpha dies I bought from SU! a few years back and again, our newer glimmer paper.

ANYONE??? I love glitter, but I truly do not want to be covered in silver glitter for weeks. Cleaning up is a rather limited thing on my end right now due to some recent surgery & medical yuckies I'm dealing with at the moment.

All idea are welcome and very much appreciated!

I know your glitter is already on and you have a sealant for it now lol.
But next time, mixing it with Mod Podge and painting it on is the least messy way I have found as yet.

I know you can use glues etc. But the glossy Mod Podge keeps a great shine!

I think I saw a Jennifer McGuire video where she burnished the glitter with her bone folder. (not stickles - loose glitter)
