Default Card Stock and Colour

Hey ladies.....can anyone tell me if some card stock produces a better colour than others? I mean....does some card stock absorb more ink and some less and if it does absorb less does the colour stay brighter and if so, what kind of card stock should I be look for? A particular brand? A particular coating on the card stock?

TIA
Hope your having a good day
Jo

Jo, it seems your post "fell through the cracks"....I can't believe there isn't one response!

Let's see...if I read your question correctly; you're asking about the best card stock to use when coloring an image with markers? Or are simply referring to stamping an image with some sort of dye based ink?

If you are interested in the coloring with markers issue, I suggest you search in the Tools and Product Talk forum for "best paper with markers". Many topics will come up that address this. I know off the top of my head that many folks like GinaKDesigns heavy weight white or PTI ( PapertreyInk ) white. Both are very heavy smooth card stocks that work well with Copic or other alcohol based ink markers.

If you are simply interested in stamping an image, both the companies I mentioned above will work wonderfully well, but Stampin'Up sells a wonderful smooth white paper that takes ink like a dream too; and it's lighter weight so works well for layering.

The issue of your colors staying bright and true is often a combination of the paper and the quality of ink pad ( or marker ) you use. I hope this had helped a little. :-)

there is a line of cardstock that Memory Box and A Muse Studio and Hero Arts sells that is white on one one side and colored (soy ink) on the other and it takes ink differently than traditional colored cardstocks.

It doesn't appear to absorb ink in the same manner that SU or PTI's cardstock does. For example, Versamark does not show up well at all with A Muse Studio cardstock.

On the other hand, the soy ink color produces a beautiful finish with gorgeous colors and other inks, particularly chalk/pigment inks look fabulous with it.

The white is also different. The A Muse Studio white (sugar) handles A Muse Studio inks better than other brand white cardstock. The inks dry almost instantaneously even though a pigment ink so the result is beautiful coverage. However, I've used the A Muse inks with Papertrey white, and while it works just fine, the ink takes a bit longer to dry.

I have no idea why!
