How do I take better photos of my projects?

I've been trying to take better pictures of my cards, I've tried different areas in my home using different windows for lighting. My cards are either washed out or dark. I tried searching for threads on SCS with no luck. Are there any threads for how to take better pictures? Do you have any tips?

You can also scan them if you have a scanner- you can play with the colour controls then too.

Beate shows a very simple setup that she uses to photograph her cards, and she gets great results: Taking and Editing Pictures.

Another point is that photo editing software can correct a lot of problems. Even if your original photos aren't perfect, as long as they are in focus, you can improve them with something like Photoshop, PSP, GIMP, or Picasa -- and those last two are free.

A neighbor gave me a scanner, since it didn't work with her new computer. Unfortunately my computer has since crashed. However the public library has a scanner which patrons can use free! The librarians are very nice and will help you if you've never used a scanner before. I scan the cards then e-mail them to myself. Only one computer is used with the scanner, so you have to get there early, but they usually try not to put anyone on that computer if others are open.
