I have if you check this out, it will show you exactly what it does. It will make taking your cricut places way more convenient than taking it and all the cartridges now. i watched it and fell in love. i am such a tech toy junkie
I am definitely getting one... I am already on the waiting list The owner of my LSS spent a lot of time checking it out and she said it is awesome and a must-have for the Cricut!
I would love to have one, but it will definately be on the bottom of my wish list because of price. For those that work, I think it could be something great to have around during lunch, or on vacation. For now, I'll be lugging around a laptop with SCAL on it.

Here are some awesome short videos of Donnie K and Rogue Gypies
There are funny! This waspart of their big campaign for the the Gypsy release.
You can see kid of how the Gypsies work and some of the things they can create.
I think it's over $250. I think it looks cool but there is no way I'm dropping that kind of change. I'd rather have a Yudu or the new Sizzix. For $250 I think it should have an MP3 player or something You can get an iPod Nano or even a Nintendo for much less than this. And not that the Gypsy is really comparable to those items, but in my mind it sort of has the same appeal, but for crafters. I'm also trying to think in my mind what sort of advanced technology does the Gypsy has that makes it cost $250 and I just can't come up with it.

At first I thought it would be great, especially to be able to load cartridges that you rent. When I went to Provo's site it sounds like that will not work. I think you will only be able to load a cartridge with a unique (that you prove you purchased) serial number. Does anyone else understand it that way?
Other than a little easier to carry on the go, I don't understand what its advantages are. What makes it better than the Design Studio?

Yes, you can only load the carts you bought...er, acquired (hey, you can get them as gifts!). I also believe that if the cart has ever been used in a gypsy, it is bonded to that gypsy, meaning you can't use it in yours.
Adv: Just that. It's portable. Take it with you to a party without hauling all of your carts and/or, if you have design studio, you don't have to haul your computer. For $250+, unless I've missed something, I think I'd be better off buying a cheap netbook and using design studio. Same portability, and not a unitasker.
If you do go the notebook avenue, and many are, BE VERY sure that the notebook can display 1024x768 or Design Studio will wont display properly, several people have made this mistake.
The separate palettes on DS will overlap....... and they cant be moved
FYI: HSN is featuring the Gypsy on September 24th (I believe that is the correct date). They usually have good deals so I will be interested in seeing what this one is.
Yea I take back everything I said about the Gypsy. I really want one now. I think it even comes with two cartridges pre-installed. And I like that you don't have to keep swapping cartridges - you just work directly from the Gypsy.
I'm going to be watching HSN eagerly on Thursday, especially if I have good results with my JOB interview on Wednesday, lol!

I believe that it's at like midnight on the 24th so its more like late night on the 23rd but I am not absolutely positive about that.
I think designing on such a tiny screen would drive me bonkers! LOL
Also, I'm concerned that there are things the Gypsy can do that Design Studio cannot, and vice versa. Since the G version of DS can group, how are those files going to open in the PC version of DS? PC DS can't group. Will the files open with the formerly grouped items ungrouped? Will the files even open?
PC DS can hide, but G DS cannot, so same questions.
I don't see how PC can say files created in the 2 versions are interchangeable when each version has very important features that are lacking in the other.
Additionally, the battery cannot be replaced by the user. If your G dies, it takes everything with it and there's been no word from PC as to whether they can even replace the battery and/or recover your data.
(ETA this is the same link as posted by lylacfey above) This blog entry has some great info. The blogger actually got to speak to Major Madon (Project Manager for Gypsy). The answers to her questions made me very leary.
I'm going to wait and see about this. I'm a gadget freak, but this smells bad to me. For one thing, PC has never been able to get DS to run smoothly and with the features we've been begging for -- yet now they want nearly $300 to run DS on a G. If PC would fix DS and bring it up to date with the features we want (that other programs offer), I'd be more inclined to pay $300 to run that program on a Gypsy.
I have a feeling the G may end up like the Jukebox. PC was giving those away this summer with the purchase of 2 new cartridges (2 carts, a JB, and a pack of inks for $99). I'm going to wait on the G and see if A) the price comes down dramatically, and B) there are any surprises once "real" people start using it in real-world situations.
I will say, though, that the people who have received their Gs early (promos from PC) appear to love using them. They haven't had them long, but the carts seem to load fine and cut (once the G is hooked up to a Cricut, of course).
