Any good sewing scissor would also work. My demo ties a piece of ribbon on the handle of the ribbon scissors...and threatens us with our lives if we use them for paper! ;)
But we all know the ribbon scissors with that piece of ribbon tied on the handle!
Yes, the key to good ribbon scissors is making sure to use only for cutting ribbon.
I keep all my scissors in a Pampered Chef tool turn thingy except for my ribbon scissors. They are in my drawer because I noticed my DH was using some of my scissors. I have to hide my ribbon scissors from him. LOL.

Smart lady!! I have to make sure my 4-5 pairs of expensive sewing shears are well hidden and always put away!
I, too, tie a ribbon (gold/sparkly) on the handle of my ribbon scissors. I have a Fiskars pair and a Tonic pair that I 'guard with my life' because it is so frustrating to have someone use them to cut tape/foam tape/cereal packaging. I especially 'watch' them when I go to a workshop/card class. It surprises me when someone 'borrows' my scissors from out of my kit container. One time a teacher picked them up without asking and cut a piece of tape!!! Don't they realize how hard it is to FIND the right pair to cut ribbon, especially the sheer ribbon?
I have used Cutterbee scissors before but found, over time, they were not the sharpest for ribbon. I have sewing snips that I use at home but will not take them out of my home to have someone else ruin them.
I bought a pair of the scissors that Stampin' UP! sells for ribbon cutting and I LOVE them.. they are so smooth too. They have only cut ribbon and ribbon alone. The day they arrived I laid them on my desk and told my kids that whenever they are looking for a pair of scissors.. they were NOT to touch them. I've had them for years and they still cut as nicely as the day I got them. well worth the money.

I guess you trained your kids. I can't train my DH - he forgets so I have to hide them in drawer. LOL.

that's funny ~ Pam
I did see my hubby reaching for them one time when I was at the computer.. and I yelled out "OH NO YOU DON'T" and he looked at me like I was out of my mind... I then quietly said to get one of the other pairs.. never those.

I have numerous pairs of scissors and the large SU shears work great on ribbon, even if they're a bit large for the job. And I cut paper and card stock with then too! Go figure.
Starting in the late 70's I trained my family about scissors since I use embroidery scissors and those can get wrecked easily.

That is an excellent idea to mark the ribbon (or fabric scissors). I wouln't have to worry about hubby getting the wrong pair!
I am a newby at cardmaking...which machine would be a good investment Cuttlebug, the Big Kick or the Big Shot...Is there really a big difference. Does each of these machine take folders and die cuts from various suppliers

Tell your demo that she's wasting ribbon...paper DOES NOT dull scissors. That's an old wive's tale that seems to have outlived most scissors. Hair, toe nails and most man-made fibers DO dull scissors, but as long as paper isn't recycled with metal bits, it won't harm the blades of the scissors.
Cutting metal (bits and sheets) and wire will cause nicks in scissors blades, but that is not the same as dulling the blades.
Got this information from Gingher Company...a manufacturer of quality scissors.
As far as the best scissors to use for ribbon...whichever ones are handy (long as they haven't been used for cutting hair).
When we got married I was more into sewing than stamping, but I told DH if he used my fabric scissors for cutting paper, I wouldn't be mad, I'd just go out and buy a new pair. He hasn't touched them.
For ribbon I use a small pair made by Fiskars. I asked a lady who worked at the sewing store and she recommended them. They have a very short blade and are very sharp. I do occassionally use them for cutting out very fine details if I have to and they still work for ribbon. I may have to replace them after a few more years, but then they'll be good for paper.
I use small cutterbee scissors as well and one pair is ONLY for ribbon. I tied a small piece of ribbon to one of the handles so I know which pair is my ribbon pair - it keeps them nice and sharp. I also having sewing shears but I don't use them for ribbon.
I have a collection of gingher scissors. The embroidery and craft scissors are works of art. They last forever! I keep both in a little tool case. The embroidery scissors cut ribbon and thread (also fabric). If you want to invest, joann often has a 1/2 price sale on ginghers, or u can always use a coupon.
My experience is any new scissors cut ribbon well. I have ginghers, and I have a Singer pair bought from the dollar store, and they both cut ribbon well. I think the ginghers just stay sharp longer.

I'm still looking for the perfect ribbon-cutting scissors, but previous comments reminded me of what my thirty-something daughter recently told me. She said the first word she ever learned to read was"Fiskars" because they were my sewing scissors and the only ones she was forbidden to use.
My mom also had sewing scissors my siblings and I were forbidden to use. Mom's 84 and I think those scissors are still pristine in their original plastic sleeve. Mom meant business!
Love Ginger. I bought two of their 'duck bill' scissors. One is for paper and marked the other one for my sewing & quilting with a ribbon. Whoa betide any one's soul if they use my fabric ones for paper!! LOL I love the 'duck bills' because they have a short cutting blade, are easier to handle and trim very close to the edge.
