I have a SCAL question, how do you load it so it doesn't interfere with Design Studio? I have a free trial version I'd like to try....

Honestly, I own the orignal SCAL they just upgraded and want 35 bucks for us to upgrade! I am so annoyed with it. I am going to sell my cricut, Scal and all my carts and go with a pazzle and get really good software. :( I think SCAL will charge each time we upgrade, thats going to get $$$

SCAL 2.2 is the one to download as it's fixed a few of the bugs.

SCAL don't charge for normal updates where the program has just been tweaked. Scal2 has a lot of features that werent in the original programme. You no longer need to convert images to svg because it has an autotrace, saves time and disk space. It also has layers which work a bit like psp & photoshop. Fantastic for paper piecing and wordbooks as you can line everything up easily then cut seperately. There is also a zoom button so you can get perfect sizing without having to have your face 2 inches from the screen. You can also rotate the mat and change the measurements to metric. The only downside to scal 2 is that you cant use files made in it in scal1.

It doesnt conflict or interfere with Design Studio and if you haven't already updated the firmware (the software on the cricut itself) you will need the trial or full version of DS to update the cricut.

The problem between the 2 programmes was caused when DS updated last time and changed the firmware. You had a choice then of either using the updated DS with the newer carts loaded or scal and the original DS but not the 2 together. Scal was updated free of charge fairly quickly and lets you use any version of the firmware.
