Cool! I saw the 'real' one in action last weekend and was wondering if I could figure out how to make my own. Now off to check out...

Update: I made great ink buy mixing Reeves brand gauche (pronaunced gwash) paint (you can get a set of 18 colors at AC Moore for $10) with equal parts prang tempra (I used metallic tempra cuz it's pretty, looks like glimmer mist) just a dab of each on a ceramic tile, rool over it with a brayer until it is well mixed and roll onto the letterpress plate. It's divine and super cheap compared with the letterpress ink that is $6 a tube! I got the prang tempra paint at the Dollar Tree! I'm having so much fun experimenting! I tried to make some printing plates with hot glue tonight but it did not work, hard plastic seems to be the way to go, I'll keep experimenting though;)

Great idea! Is there any specific thickness to the masonite you used ? I would like to try to make my own too. I bought one of the Everyday plates and tried it with the Multipurpose platform, cutting pads and some shims on my BigShot. I was trying to figure out how to make it hinged ... thanks for figuring it out for us. TFS!

I actually used a scrap of masonite paneling, I got a free sample at the hardware store, ask if they have any discontuned paneling samples, they just throw them away, other wise get the 1/8" thick stuff. I broke my cutting plates in the middle of a project once and didnt have a replacement so I cut masonite to use until I got a new set and it worked great. I wouldn't use them for sutting too often though incase they dull your dies.

Another question ... What sandwich did you use together with your homemade letterpress?

I'll attach a picture. I hinges a big shot cutting pad to a peice of 1.8" masinite with duct-tape and place my paper and plate inside that and put that contraption on my spacer. I shimmed it with 2 peices of cardstock between the spacer and the letterpress. If you dont have masonite I'm sure another cutting pad would work;) My masonite is just a bathroom wall board (paneling) scrap.
