Cuttlebug-- for embossing
SU paper and inks. Markers, I really debated about buying them, use them on every card.
ribbon
punches (especially scallop and the one that takes a bite out of corner)
baubles
The list goes on and on. But those things I use on every card.
Love stickles but only use star dust. Cricut is my next purchase. New cartridges that are coming out made me cave, have to have one.
Copics, I am not interested, I have way too may coloring items and don't use them enough. Nestabilities, I am avoiding, I figure the cricut will cover anything it can do.
hth, good luck,
Sandy
in addition to the above mentioned items, I would definitely get all the colours of SU cardstock, a decent selection of ink pads (including some that are copic-friendly), nestibilities, a few kinds of scissors (Kai for rubber, as well as some detail cutting scissors)....I know there is more, just too tired to think;-)

Hi Erin! Great question!! I have been stamping seriously for almost a year and here's what I'd recommend (of course it would depend on your budget and your stamping "style"):
Cuttlebug
Good Paper Cutter (Tonic 12") and I also love my CM Personal Trimmer for smaller pieces of CS and DP.
Good Black Ink (Memento, Palette Noir)
Ink Pads (SU or PTI if you want to color-cordinate your CS and DP)
Punches (nice to have, but not necessary): Ticket Corner Punch, Scallop with coordinating Circle, Slit, Slot, Word Window or Nesties
Ribbon, Stickles, Baubles, Dots (check out www.stampingbella.com for some great embellies)
If you like to color then I'd recommend Copics.
I find that I use my Copics more than my SU markers, but still use my SU markers a lot
Scor Pal (love this!!!)
Tombow Mono Multi Glue, Mini Glue Dots
I forgot to mention the Kai (Craft and Rubber Scissors)..they are excellent! If you already have Cutterbee's they will cut your rubbah too-but the Kai are much better.
You don't have to buy the markers right away (or ever). The blender pens can be 'swiped' on the ink pad or you can put a drop or 2 of re-inker on the lid and pick up the color. I generally always order the re-inker along with the ink pad as it's so versatile in its use. I really love the CB - both for embossing and for die cuts. I've used my 2 oval punches a lot, as well as the scallop punch. I'm beginning to collect the various Nestabilities but they're not really what I consider a must for beginners. Having all the colors in CS and ink pads is really useful. Happy collecting!

You know, I don't even want any of those things. I like to keep things simple and truely hand crafted. Once you incorporate too many tools, the card looses that one of kind look.
The best "tool" I ever got was a simple Stamp-a-ma-jig.
When I started crafting, one of the things that drove me nuts was not being able to have a perfectly folded card, even though I had scored it. That darn fiskars trimmer just didn't like to do anything straight.
Now I have my scorpal and I am in love. My cards are crisp and folded right.
So along with a good trimmer, spend the money and avoid the frustration and get the scorpal.
Scotch ATG
A good ruler (like Tim Holtz)
Non-stick scissors (like Fiskars)
Big Shot
Glue Dots (especially the minis)
A good paper cutter
Corner Rounder
Sakura Quickie Glue Pen
Paper Piercer
UnDo
"If" I could have it all? by the looks of my stamp room I thought I did (LOL) and I think I wasted a lot of $$ because I have a lot of stuff I thought I just had to have it and now I rarely use it!! I'm on a stop buy and am having fun enjoying what I have. Some times more is not better, it's just more.
If I was to start over the things I would spend the most on are:
great paper trimmer (have 4 and am still searching for my fav)
great pair of scissors (small, large, ribbon)
only stamp pads of colors I love (I have SU colors I never use)
only markers of colors I love (I have SU colors I never use)
Prisma pencils and electric pencil sharpener
Big Shot with dies for frames, circles, and nesties
a good light
score-pal
good quality embossing gun
good quality craft knife
spend money on classes - they help you decide on if you need the latest toy
stamps, stamps, stamps
Scor-Pal
Tonic paper cutter (guillotine)
Mono Multi Adhesive (green and white bottle)
Color coordinated cardstock, ribbon and ink (Stampin Up or Papertrey Ink)
I am addicted to ink..I always have many colors of Versafine ink pads on my table..these are amazing for detail oriented stamps and I also love StazOn ink pads for photo stamps(love photo stamps too). As far as tools go I bought myself an ATG gun and it's one of the best investments I have ever made..it's great, love it, couldn't do without it! As a beginner though I would hold off on getting one just yet as it is not cheap..but I found myself continually buying the Mono Adhesive (I'd use my Joanns coup to buy refills) and finally figured out that the ATG would pay for itself in no time. Just my 2 cents
