Default Starter Set of Tim Holtz Distress Ink Colors

Are there any recommendations for a starter set of Tim Holtz Distress Ink colors? I'd like to buy some reinkers to use for watercoloring. Thanks!

I like:
Peeled Paint - for green
Faded Jeans - for blue
Walnut Stain or Vintage Photo - for brown
Fired Brick - for red
Concord - for purple
Spiced Marmalade - for orange
Mustard Seed - for yellow

It depends what kind of images you want to colour, I guess. You really can't go wrong with these inks though - once you start to collect them my guess is that you'll keep adding new colours!

FWIW:
If you're colouring images of people, Tattered Rose is a reasonable caucasian skin tone.
I'd fight anybody who tried to take away Antique Linen and Vintage Photo from my craft room.
Bundled Sage is the prettiest green ever, I think.
Mustard Seed/Spiced Marmalade/Fired Brick is the perfect combo for brayered sunsets.

Tell us what sort of things you'll be colouring and maybe we can come up with some more tailored suggestions.

Make sure you get the black one (can't remember the exact name though) as I find I use that one a lot...especially for Halloween. Really, with these inks, you just can't go wrong as there are so very many quick techniques. Do you have a little water mister and a craft mat? I find these a definite must with these as well.

I think the black one is called 'Black Soot'. A friend recommended this inkpad to use when embossing using black EP because the pad is 'juicy' and will hold the powder when embossing. Have yet to try this but was talking about how all my black inkpads are too dry to hold the powder. (Brilliance, Color Box, some other ones)

Just started using Distressed Inks after watching some Tim Holtz and others using them for different techniques.

I am a distress ink addict so be careful because once you have one you want them all .

The colors you should choose really depends on what kind of projects you do. Each color family has muted colors and more vibrant ones so look at the projects you do and decided where you sit on color intensity and go from there.

As for all around "must haves" I would start with some neutrals:

*Vintage Photo (Walnut stain is great but quite intense where VP is more in the middle and i find i reach for it a bit more).
*Antique Linen (is great for adding a gentle color to stark white backgrounds without changing too much of your color scheme)
*Pumice Stone (a really nice grey to use on masculine cards)

These are colors that i really love:
Orange...Wild Honey
Pinky Purple...Victorian Velvet
Blue...Tumbled Glass
Green...Peeled Piant
Red... Barn Door(a true primary red) and Fired Brick (has a bit more brown in it)
Yellow...Mustard Seed

Just pick colors that you love and have fun with them.
There is a great YouTube video series called "No Stress Distress Inks" that is really fantastic if you are just starting out. Here is the link to the first video (i think there are 12 in all): No-Stress Distress Inks #1 - YouTube

You can often get good deals on eBay for these inks. You might want to look there if you are just starting out. I just bought some there.
