Durable Hanging File Folders

I am looking for suggestions for durable hanging file folders. I have 2 small file cabinets I use to store my 8 1/2 X 11 card stock. I store up to 35 sheets in a file folder inside the hanging file folder. My hanging folders can't hold the weight and keep falling apart. Any suggestions?

Have you considered using expandable file folders that could just sit on the bottom of the drawer rather than having to hang? something like these:

Might work

I will have to buy a couple and try it out to see if they stay in place and don't fall over

I use some dark green Office Supply Store style. I put 3-4 packs of SU cardstock in each one. They are fairly heavy, but I don't know the brand....got at a garage sale. For my scraps I put file folders in these hanging files for each color group.

I store all of my card stock in hanging file folders, and I do have 35 sheets at least in many of them and most of my card stock is PTI, so heavyweight. I have always just used regular Pendaflex hanging file folders and never had a problem with them falling apart.

I do not store all I have of a color in one folder if it fills it so much that the paper won't sit right in the folder and starts getting messed up on the bottom edge (know what I mean?) and that has nothing to do with weight of the paper, just the width of the hanging file. I'd rather add a second folder for that color, or put the paper in an "overflow" area.

I have looked at "box files" but they are expensive and, unless they actually hit the bottom of the file drawer, I find the bottom of the box just bows downwards and, again, the paper doesn't sit right. Just my experience.

I've been using these poly hanging file folders for nearly 5.5 years.

The up-front expense has been well worth it because I haven't had a problem with any of them.

Here's a link to the blog post I wrote when I first started using them, with photos showing the folders in use: 2010 August 11
