I think I'm in love with "The Slice" by Making Memories. It is due to come out in end October. I just looked at it and I'm already hooked. I just have to find out where I can order one.
Does anyone else want one? I like the light-weight and portable aspect about it and it seems do to a lot.
(sigh) Will they STOP already??? Every time I think they have invented the GREATEST thing on earth for die cutting, they up the ante and go and invent something else! Sheesh!
I'd like to see this one demonstrated! My poor poor wallet!

He said he might be able to help me out....Well I told him that Santa came early this year for him...And that he better get me one or I.....Will stop feeding him.....lol!!
I really want one - do I need one? hmmmmm. I have the cricit - what more do I need? LOL
I have yet to find the price for this - I bet it ain't cheap - but would really like one. I think though that my hubby is getting me a jukebox (cricit) for
Christmas - he keeps showing me it.

I have heard that it will be around $150 for the Slice and about $20 for the cards.
I don't have the cricut, it is just to big for me. The Slice is more my size!
The Slice looks just right. Not too big - not too small - just right. Not to heavy - not to light - just right. Not too expensive - not too cheap - just right! I can't wait to get one. It's definately on my list for Christmas this year!
I like it but ... it's not programmable! I want to be able to design my own cuts.
They are supposed to be coming out with a cord that you connect to your PC and to an empty disk so that you can make your own designs. From what I understand it will be coming out about 6 months (or more) after the Slice is released.

Not according to their customer service department:
Quote:
Good morning,
Thank you for your email. The Slice is programmed to work with MM Slice design cards only, and will not allow any customizing. In the future, we do hope to create a computer program you can use to create your own designs compatible with the Slice. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

If they have a 6 month plan - they haven't told customer service about it yet. The response was dated 9/2/2008.
I would not mind at all if I'm proven wrong ....
That is so weird! I have seen the cord (on the internet). It is white and on one end it will fit into the USB port of you PC. The other end you insert the card into. It kinda looks like an ipod cord.
I am about to leave but when I get home I will see if I can find where I saw that.

That sounds like a regular card reader (for SD cards, etc.). I wonder what kind of card is used with the Slice? (SD, xD, etc.)

The only thing is this video shows the very first Slice before Making Memories bought the rights to it. So now I don't know if they will come out with it or not.
I want to get the Slice too but I heard it won't cut thicker cardstocks or chipboard. I'm waiting until they come out with one that will do that since I mostly use Papertrey cardstock which is very thick.
I just don't know about this...I was on a preorder list for at least 2 months, then cancelled because it was so delayed - and I had never seen it demoed cutting cs. Thing is, it would be quite an investment because you would need the larger cutting mat, the spatula to pick up the cut shape and the spray. To say nothing of all those additional CD chips. I would want at least 5 of them. I will now wait for reviews and see how I feel after it's been out for awhile.
Great thread! I started off reading and really wanted one of these, and by the time I got to the bottom of the threads you had all brought up really good points that made me reconsider. It does seem a big shortfall not to be able to use your own designs. It does look really nifty though.
I just wish they'd go ahead and release the darn thing already! Why do they keep showing all these great new things at CHA only to make everyone wait months and month before they even release them??
I think I might want one but I want it to come out so others can try it, review it, etc and see if it's really as cool as it looks.
To me, the biggest drawbacks are 1) price and 2) cut size limitations.
I bought my first Cricut machine (the smaller one) for $100 including shipping and a cartridge - barely used. Then I bought a brand new Expression machine for $200 including shipping and a cartridge (and sold my baby Cricut for $100). If the Slice is set to retail at $150, I think I'll stick with my Cricut.
I believe I've read that the Slice is also limited to up to 4". Hmmmm... That's an okay size for cutting out elements to put on a card (or for scrapbooking), but that's really all a person is limited to. Maybe I'm wrong, it's been known to happen quite a few times. (I like being able to cut size A2 cards and more with the Cricut plus cut A2 envelopes too.)
I had originally been gung-ho on the Slice when I first heard about it a long time ago... but now? Not so much. (Especially when I can cut my own things using Sure Cuts A Lot and my computer with the Cricut machine, not to mention the cartridges - although the Slice cards are way cheaper than Cricut cartridges... but can you do as much? I don't know!!!)
