does your Glue Glider do this?

My Glue Glider Pro worked so well when I first bought it that I not only told all my scrapping friends, I ordered 12 refills. Now it hardly works at all -- I put a refill in only to have it stop rolling about half way through. Drives me NUTS!! The refills will work fine at first but I never get to use one all the way to the end. Is this only happening to me??

Vicki,
This has been happening to me too. DH has even tried taking the refill apart and re-assembling it. It works for 2-3 inches then quits winding the used tape up. Makes me really upset too. The refills are not cheap (what is in this hobby?!) Thing is, I really like the smaller size of this gun compared to the ATG 700. Right now adhesives are the things that are frustrating me the most!

I had a problem with one of the kinds of adhesive.. it was a pain. I went back to using Tombow and then found someone who had an ATG locally for sale and have been using it.

I wish I could remember which refills it was that gave me problems, I actually took the thing out and returned it to the store because it literally locked up and wouldn't roll at all.

That's what mine are doing and it's really annoying! I did call the company and they sent me two replacement refills, but it's happening over and over again. GRrrrrr.

So far all Tombow refills on any of their products at stores are doing a cruddy job. The snail refills I have double over on themselves and I was forever taking the thing apart trying to get it to work.

I like the SU snail and have ordered refills but...aren't the the same as the Tombow? i hope they work when I get them!

As far as I know, Tombow makes the "snail" adhesive for SU.

Did you know you can get a small adapter that allows the 3M 700 use 1/4" tape? I think it's like 4.00-5.00 and you just slip it in over the loading wheel. I never bought it because I like the 1/2" size tape but I know lots of ladies who swear by it.

Also, I've had my ATG for like 4-5 years and it still works as good as the day I bought it. I put it through it's paces too...I've used 300+ rolls of tape since I've had it.

I use ATG tape in my Glue Glider. Once you get the hang of loading the tape into the cartridge, it takes about 5 mins. to do. I keep cartridges filled up so I always have one ready when I need it.

Funny that this topic comes up today. I have the same problem with my GGP, and I've returned many cartridges back to the store. Today I bought the pink ATG from Michaels, where I work, and I'm hoping that this is a better investment. I intend on gathering up my unused cartridges for my GGP, with my receipts and returning them.

Thanks Roni!
I have read about others doing this too. What I meant was the size of the actual gun itself. Besides taking up a lot of space in my ridiculously small stamping area (boy I can't wait until all of my adult children move out!) I'm worried that the ATG will be too big for my hands to deal with.
But, I have also heard lots of testimonies similar to yours about how long it lasts and how reliable it is. So, it's one of those items that I'm on the fence about, for quite some time now!!

This sounds very interesting! I would love to know more. Can you give details on how this is done? Does it fit or do you have to rewind the adhesive somehow?

lynnephelps 10-23-2010 12:32 PM

I would LOVE to see a video of how you load an ATG refill into a Glue Glider cartridge!!! Does anyone know of a blog post with a tutorial, still or vid?

I stopped using my glue glider for reasons listed above - would not advance once it reached a certain point in the cartridge.

But the Glue Glider is a lot smaller, and I LOVE how you can pop the cartridge out and put it in backwards when you are traveling - so the sticky stuff is not exposed. That's a big problem with the ATG gun!

So I'd love to leave the ATG gun on my craft table, but reload a Glue Glider cartidge with an ATG refill for bringing to stamping get togethers! Best of both worlds!

Yes, I would like to see that too, please!

I had problems with my Glue Glider, too and am looking into purchasing and ATG 700 myself. My DH is a math/science brain and explained the problem--the wheels roll together and as you use up the adhesive, one wheel rolls faster than the other and it locks up (ok he explains physics a whole lot better than me). He looked at my friend's ATG gun and claims that it will work fine because the wheels run independent of each other. Sounds like a husband approved purchase to me LOL.

I've had the ATG for many years and use the 1/4 inch gold brand adhesive and have never had a problem with it. It's one of the best purchases I've made.

Cartermrc 08-20-2011 11:20 AM

My GGP did exactly the same thing and it was literally a pain in the neck to try to use. Last year I used up the refills and then threw it away and bought a pink ATG. No more problems for me!

Thanks for that engineering explanation-makes sense. I wonder why the Glue Glider manufacturer hasn't figured that out.

tlw411 08-20-2011 01:09 PM

I was so happy to read this! I thought I was the only one that could not get my GGP to use up a roll without locking! I also bought the pink ATG last Spring and would not trade it for anything! :) Wish I didn't have THREE unused refills in my drawer . . .

Anitamocha 08-20-2011 06:57 PM

I had this problem with Glue Glider and realized that it was the holder not the tape refills. They sent me a new holder and have had no problems with it. I do use ATG also. It is bigger so less chance of losing it on my messy desk.
