I was wondering about how people organize their paper. I have both vertical and horizontal storage. One is a stand alone cabinet with horizontal shelfs for paper made by my hubby. I also have a couple vertical paper storage containers. My biggest problem are scraps. Where do you put them? Also how do you sort your paper? Color, company, style, are a few ways I've heard of. Do you use any of those or do you have an even better way.
I organise my papers by company and then colour. It means I can easily find co-ordinating papers. I've tried loads of different ways of storing them, but this seems to work for me.
Scraps - depends on how large they are. Sometimes they go back in the drawer with the full sheets. If they're really small I tend to just throw them in a drawer. I usually forget about them too and every now and then I use them to create punch-outs or die-cuts.
I always store my papers flat too. And covered. I can't bear papers that have collapsed and curled in upright storage or are dusty. I love my papers - maybe too much lol! Maybe I just need to get a life!
I organize my scraps by color in a plastic file bin that I keep to the right of my chair under my table I work at. For example, I have a hanging file with a piece of that color in the tab and then written on the color paper is the name of the color. For example, "Old Olive" has a piece of old olive in the tab with it's name on it. When I need a piece of old olive I just pluck out that file and find what I need. I have a file for every SU color plus files for Naturals, vellum, or other bulk papers I own. I have them sorted by the SU color families so it is easy for me to find a color quickly. Since I started this system about 8 years ago, I find I use my scraps much more and therefor save $ and time. No searching or frustration involved. Anything under a half sheet goes in this file. Half sheets or bigger goes back in the file drawers with the stock which I have filed with the same system. White and vanilla paper scraps I keep in a separate bin -type drawer just thrown in altogether. That is also kept next to me for ease of reach.
Hope this helps. I tried just about everything before this and have never found fault with this system. It has been great and efficient and easy too!
I have my 8.5x11 SU papers in a filing cabinet that hangs them in a seperate folder for each color. I have my 12x12 DP's in a stack with a sheet of chipboard seperating them from style (my SU one's) and then I have my HUGE cropper hopper that holds my 12x12 DP's sorted by color.
The stack o' paper isnt working but I'm dealing with it until we move and I have a more permanent craft room to make my home. I dont want to completely renovate my current room only to sell it.
You guys all have great ideas. Mine aren't organized at all... I really should. My hardest issue is scraps. I need to start looking for a bin/box to toss them in, so I can use and find all the other useful items in my drawers.

lol...Piles everywhere....literally I have so much paper. My hubby built me a 13 x 13 size shelf floor to ceiling. every cubby is overflowing...so now piles everywhere...just cant resist new paper.
My cardstock are in boxes with hanging file folders. I sort them by colors not color groups. My printed papers are in those plastic 12x12 holders that SU uses. That way I can just put scraps in the holders and they are ready for next time.
I meant ever, because I'm trying to collect all the colors for the current year because I just started stamping. I'm also trying to create a place to store them in my small craft room. Any suggestions for a small space. Thanks.

My husband built me an awesome paper shelf that allows me to store all of my paper flat. You want to make sure that you keep card stock out of direct sunlight though. I had to move my shelf because the edges of the card stock were fading.

LOL, I use upright storage and love it. The papers won't curl if you keep the storage cases FULL. That's my excuse for buying tons of paper, and I'm stickin' to it!:-D
I have all colors in all sU! families. I use magazine holders and they are divided by color pink/red, blue/purple, orange/yellow, green, black/brown. Then I have seperate mag holders for the scraps. I think there is a picture in my gallery. Aylmost forgot, years ago My demo ordered me a huge pack of the bags the paper used to come in. I keep the paper in those bags then in the mag holder. That is what keeps my paper from getting dusty.
Once I cut into a piece of card stock the scrap no matter what size goes into a pizza box. I bought these boxes at a LSS they are pizza boxes that the stores buy and then have their logos printed on them They are white are are inexpensive and stack neatly. I have them in colour groupings, pink/purple/red, black/white, yellow/brown, blue/green etc. I found since using this system I go them first before cutting into a new sheet.
My uncut cardstock in stored verticalin 12 x 12 plastic containers like magazine holders, they are also in colour groupings. Over here we use 12 x 12 card except for SU card which is in A4 and 12 x 12.
For my scraps, I have a drawer I put them all in and then once a month, I go through and sort by color. If they are patterned scraps, I go with what color I see when I first look at it. Then I have 10 clear plastic 12x12 envelopes (they sell at Micheals for $2-3 each) each designated for a color or a color group. And then the scraps go in the appropriate color envelope. When I am making cards or scrapbooking and need a color, I grab the envelope for the color I am looking for and can usually find the scrap I need.
This by far has been my best solution for scraps. I use the 12 x12 storage as I dont want to have to cut my scrap until I know what I am going to do with it.
As for other paper storage, I used to own a store so I have paper racks...and I love them. So if you ever see a store going out of business, snap a couple up for your craft room, you will never regret it.
Good point about paper fading. I keep my paper completely out of any light source. I store alot of cardstock in file cabinets, and the rest in a closet in plasic containers.
Location: Probably reading your blog...instead of actually stamping

Good luck!
Ditto, except I put all scraps of each color back into their respective folders. One place to look, and I use them up all the time now
I keep my su papers in their colour groups in four drawers. I have a plastic file in each drawer also. My scraps then go in the drawer that matches the color group. For example my drawers are labelled soft subtles, rich regals, bold brights and earth elements. Any scraps I have go into the plastic file in their corresponding drawers. I find I use my scraps all the time and usually look there first before I cut any paper. I keep my whites and creams together and blacks and browns together and do the same thing with the scraps. Hope this gives you another idea.
I store my full sheets of cs and pp in cropper hopper holders. SU goes by itself and everything else just gets lumped together. Scraps are kept in a vinyl accordian folder separated by color. Makes it super easy to set out on my table so I remember to try to use up my scraps.
I have some great plastic drawers for my 12x12 and 8 1/2x11 that were dirt cheap all Wally World, but eventually I want to get cubes. Those are top on my birthday list. 4x6 or so sizes are in an accordian file. My scraps I keep in ziploc baggies seperated by color. Not always the most efficient system, but it's worked so far.
I've tried everything, including the wire shelving.
I finally caved in and bought this unit (the Double Cabinet) and now I wish I had just done it to begin with. It's a bit pricey, but when compared with all the money I've wasted on the other storage options I've tried, it would have been better had I just gone this way first. *shaking my head at my own lack of foresight*
I go by color. Scraps go in a big box. I usually dig there first when making cards.
