Distress Crayons comparison
 

Just wondering if anyone has used Stampin' Ups retired Watercolor Wonder Crayon in place of Tim Holtz distress crayons. I am just getting into mixed media and don't want to get his crayons if the ones I have will basically do the same.
Any thoughts?

I have use both and the effects are quite similar. The main difference that I see is that TH crayons are softer than SU. I think it is that way for a reason as TH are designed for coloring on paper and SU originally designed theirs for coloring directly on stamps so they had to be a bit harder to avoid getting too roughed up by the stamp. After you color on your paper or canvas it seems like they react to water and blending the same.

Thanks Mary Beth, I am planning on doing some vignettes next month and although he uses his crayons to blend I will just stick with my huge tin of Watercolor Wonder Crayons.

I have a whole case of Gelatos that I use. I also have some cheap water soluble crayons that I bought at Michael's at least 5 years ago that I've been using. All of these work just fine. I've tried the Distress crayons in art journaling classes, and they don't blend easily for me.

I forgot about Gelatos. IMO they are very soft and blend really easily but they make a big mess if you use them directly on a stamp. The only ones I use anymore are my super-old SU water color crayons.

I've never used them that way, but I can see how that would be a problem.
