Default Big Shot Fold-Away

I found this new product from Sizzix on You Tube and was wondering if anybody knew when it might be hitting the US? Seems its only available overseas or so right now. Think this is one piece of tool I'd like to have to take to my monthly crops and stuff.

According to the Sizzix Ambassador, they will be available in the U.S. "very soon." My Cuttlebug is beginning to show its age (aren't we all) and I've resisted a Big Shot because of the size. This is really interesting. Looking forward to seeing it here.

Ha, ha, ha!!! I see that The initials for Big Shot translate as a dirty word...so much for saving myself typing the full name. Oy!

I don't think BS was asterisked... I'm guessing you mistyped an I instead of an O in the word "shot." ;)

I just came across it on YouTube. It appears to be available in the US at Scrapbook.com. website. https://www.scrapbook.com/store/sz-6...?t12-13=sizzix

Description:Your die cutting just got completely adorable! The Sidekick White and Gray Starter Kit featuring Stephanie Barnard Designs is designed for detailed plastic backed or wafer-thin dies and embossing folders up to 2 12" wide, including the Sizzix 12" Decorative Strip dies sold separately. Included in the package is one machine that features a pair of pink cutting pads, one instruction manual, three Framelits dies, three Thinlits dies and one small Textured Impressions embossing folder. This small roller machine weighs 2 pounds, stands 4.75" tall and will cut through thin paper and cardstock. This machine is perfect for your on-the-go crafting!

I'm curious about the last part. Does it cut through chipboard etc or only card stock. The UK video I saw comes with some thin fabric. Oh, why do I care? I can't really justify buying another machine right now. The fold up design is pretty attractive though!

Martha, Unless I'm missing something your link does not go to the Big Shot Foldaway but to the Sizzix Sidekick. Two different machines. The Sidekick is a smaller machine than the Big Shot, does not handle typical sized EF, does not fold out or up...etc.

You're right. I didn't read carefully. The price in the UK seems to be 149 Euros which is even more expensive than USD.

Per Sizzix CS this machine will not be available in the US until sometime in 2018. No specific release date or US pricing has been announced yet.

Default Another folding diecutter

My SO's mom bought an even sleeker-looking version, but it wasn't a Big Shot brand. She's U.S. She had to get all new platforms, though. Not sure if the BS model would let you use existing platforms.

I bought one today (I'm in New Zealand) - it does use the same platforms and cutting pads as the classic Big Shot, including the magnetic platform. I've only had a quick play so far. It's very stable, has good pressure and cut the intricate die I tested it with very well, better than my old BS. That may be because my old BS has given faithful service for the last 12 years. I don't have a modern classic BS to compare it with.

Default Will fold away replace CB?

What do you guys think? Will this new Big Shot "replace" the Cuttlebug?

It feels sturdier than the Cuttlebug to me (and therefore better), but I think what will have most effect is the price. If it's too much more expensive than the Cuttlebug, then the Cuttlebug will be safe!

Thank you so much for the information here. I currently have a BigShot and am considering something smaller for travel. The Cuddlebug seems a good choice but of the Foldaway so going to be available in the US soon and it uses the same plates I have.. perhaps I should wait. One does wish there were a price point mentioned.

I think the fold-away is more expensive than the Cuttlebug. And I would be surprised if not hovering around 100+

I have both. I got my BS free as a result of. SU Party I hosted. I chose it because I thought if my CB packed it in I needed a back up. Also in My Michael’s in Canada I noticed that there no plates being sold for the bug.

So I take my trusty bug when we winter down south for its portability and find I don’t miss my BS as the bug serves all needs for 3 month period.

It appears they have taken the good points of the bug and modeled the foldaway after it. It’s like all the stamping tools out there Misti etc.......can’t do much more here what tool can we improve next.
I like the fact that it folds like the bug and would take up less space and the portability.

Will look forward to hearing more reviews in future.

I just read a post from March of this year regarding the foldaway, and at that time the price point for the "bundle" was around $182.00 USD, accounting for conversion. The bundle includes the plates and adapters, an instruction booklet, a Bigz die, 10 thinlits dies, 10 double-sided cardstock sheets, 4 pieces of felt and 4 pieces of fabric. Aside from being more portable and all, I like that the platform doubles as shallow storage. Bonus!

Thanks for the update! I am on the fence now. Namely because I recently purchased the Gemini Jr. Doesn't do the bigz dies, but butter cuts the thin ones. I waited a longtime for this fold-a-way. But now, decisions, decisions, decisions 😂

I had been waiting and waiting for the express (the motarized one) and finally gave up. I did call and ask if it had been discontinued and, if not, the expected date of availability. They confirmed it wasn't discontinued but couldn't give me a date. So, my husband purchased the Gemini Jr for me a little over a month ago (bday gift). And now the express is out:rolleyes:

But oh well… I am not purchasing another machine.

I bought mine last February (I'm in New Zealand). It has great pressure and cuts intricate dies beautifully. On the other hand, sometimes the pressure is more than I want so I get unintended embossing effects. On the whole though I love it.

I JUST got one (I'm in the US!) and I love the size and weight. As the person above mentions, it seems to have a little more pressure than I am used to (but it's not harder to crank), so I may need to adjust a bit. The plate and shim is also new - getting used to it. I may need to create a thinner shim or something. I didn't get all the "add-ons" you see advertised often with the unit (thinlets, embossing folder, felt, etc.) - but I didn't need them. Now I have 3 machines (Sidekick, Big Shot - over 10 years old! - and this one). I'm nuts! But I love them all. Price was a little over $100, and shipping cost me about $20 for my entire order (of course, HAD to other other stuff at the same time...)
