Cuttlebug Question
 

I am making cards using some wedding cards with silver etched around the edges. I want to emboss just the center of the card leaving edges & silver etching in place. Has anyone ever blocked off a portion of the embossing folders when they used the cuttlebug? If so what did you use to accomplish this? I want to use something that will not effect the quality of the embossing in the middle. Figured I can tape something to folder since I have 100 to make, but have to to both inside & out. does anyone have any ideas of what I could use that would prevent the edges from being embossed?

To do this, you kind of have to think backwards. Instead of "blocking" the edges with something, you need to keep pressure from being applied to those areas when the sandwich rolls thru the machine. You can do this by cutting down the acrylic plate and sticking it to the center of the folder with repositionable glue, or substituting anything that is the same thickness as the top plate and positioning it on top of the part of the folder you want to emboss. Or if you need additional shims to make your sandwich work, cut those to size and put them in between the folder and the acrylic plate in the desired spot.

You'll need to run a few samples to be sure you're getting the results you want, but it does work.

I think I'd go with that last link (to the heartprints gallery). She uses plumber's gasket (1/8" thick piece of rubber) to get the effect you're talking about. You would need to cut your plumber's gasket the same size and shape as the part you were wanting to emboss, then place it in position on top the embossing folder and run it through.

I've tried a few methods, and the plumber's gasket worked the best for me. HTH!
