Default Cricut Replacement Blade Housing

Hi Friends,

My cricut keeps ripping paper. I've tried resetting it, different mats, different papers, different settings - it just rips. I've read that sometimes the actual blade housing can be a problem. My cricut is years old, so there's no warranty on it. Cricut.com has replacement blade housings for $30 and then another $11.25 for shipping (ridiculous if you ask me).

I've scoped all over the net looking for other vendors but can't find one. Anyone know where I can get a replacement housing (not the deep blade housing)?

Thanks!

Lori

Yep, tried ebay. Everyone sells the replacement blades and/or the deep blade housing, but I can't find the regular housing (green one).

lorabele.....Have you tried a craft store you can walk into? Michaels, AC Moore and Walmart and JoAnns, all sell the regular blade housing (green) with 1 blade. No, it's not real cheap, but the machine can't work without it.

I always look at my local stores before going through the internet.

Before purchasing a new housing, I would try taking our the housing, remove the blade, make sure there are no paper fibers around the blade or inside the housing. Make sure the housing is set properly in the machine between the black arms and tight, but not overly tight. Also that the black arrow on the housing is facing you when the housing is inserted in the black arms.

Unless the housing is cracked, I doubt the issue you are having is the housing, it's probably not inserted in the machine properly.

I've tried new mats, old mats, paper of every thickness, new blades, slightly used blades, clean blades, changing every setting I can find, including the setting on the housing.....and still it rips.

I stopped in at both Joanns and Michael's tonight. Neither sell the blade housing. They sell the replacement blades, and they sell the deep blade housing, but neither one in my area sell the green one. Oh, well, guess I'll have to pay the stupid $11 in shipping. Just seems a bit over the top for such a little item.

Is there a reason you don't want the deep cut housing? I bought mine on ebay for so much cheaper and only use it (instead of the green one). Then it cuts through everything.

Just buy the deep cut housing and use it. I have no problems with using mine all the time. The thing that might be wrong with your current housing is the internal spring.

Have you tried just making sure that the housing is securely tightened with the arrow facing you? I have heard that some were having issues and it just wasn't all the way tightened. With you being a seasoned Cricut users this might not be the case but it's worth a try! Good luck!

I agree with trying ebay!!!

Default Having same problem

I am having exactly the same problem with my blade. All was well until I changed the blade for the first time. It worked great for a few cuts, then started tearing the paper, almost like it was just being dragged across the paper instead of cutting. I have tried all the suggestions I have been given. I too have only been able to find the replacement housing at cricut.com. Were you able to find it anywhere else, or did you just install a deep cut housing/blade and use it, and did it solve the problem? I am hoping that someone else's experience will help me some! I am very frustrated as I am in the middle of multiple Christmas projects. Thanks so much!
