Cuttlebug embossing folders in Sizzix machine? *merged*

This may have been addressed before, but I can't find it. Sorry if this is a duplicate.
I have a Sizzix machine (not the Big Shot) and I'm wondering if I can use a Cuttlebug embossing folder in it. I'v eseen so many fantastic cards done with the background embossing folders, but only have a Sizzix. I really don't want to have to justify another die cut machine, although I can be really good at convincing myself sometimes.

kiwistamper 12-27-2006 10:28 PM

I have used my Sizzix machine with the Cuttlebug embossing folder. I simply used three of the regular cutting pads and gently slid the whole lot through. I pressed down firmly around three times on each go. It worked perfectly! I can't justify buying a Cuttlebug although I'm tempted to get a Big Shot because it's wider than the Sizzix yet still takes all of the Sizzix and Sizzlets dies that I have. Have a couple of practices till you get it, I promise it works just fine.

Sizzix cutting pads or Cuttlebug cutting pads? Aren't there embossing pads too?

kmichigan 12-28-2006 05:15 AM

The cuttlebug embossing folders work with my quickutz handle which is even more different in design than sizzix, so I'm betting they will.

I have the sizzix sidekick (I believe that's the one you are referring to) and I got some of the small embossing folders for Christmas. They work perfectly in my sidekick without having to use anything other than the folder and the two pads that come with the sidekick. I put a piece of cheap M's cardstock through to test it and the embossing was unbelievably crisp and deep! No need to add any extra layers or shims to get it to work.

HTH!

I just asked the same questions to someone else on a thread and she said that you can just put the paper in the folder and feed it through. Make sure you push down a couple of times and it works fine. I have not tried it yet but she said that is all she does and she uses the CB folders with the Regular Red Sizzix all the time. More money to spend on the folders :)

Yes if you have the regular sized Sizzix all you need is the adapter and just place the paper between the folder pieces and SQUISH SQUISH SQUISH...works great! I used a scrap piece of More Mustard SU Cardstock and it was beautiful! :)

leney 12-28-2006 02:03 PM

There is a difference between the adapter and the convertor. You need the convertor. To use quickut dies you the the convertor and the adaptors. They come in a package of five, I think. The adaptors are plastic. The convertor is a heavy metal magnet the fits on your Sizzix bar. The adaptors are used like a shim. I used the A-2 size embossing folders in my Sizzix until I got the Big Shot for Christmas. The Big Shot really does a more complete job of embossing. I also have the SideKick which is just like the Tag-a-long the companion to the Big Shot. The small embossing folders that come 4 in a package work great in the SideKick.

Sereikastamper 12-28-2006 04:12 PM

Sorry about that!! Thanks for clearing that up Leney!!

leney 12-28-2006 05:06 PM

That's okay! Adaptor & convertor can sometimes mean the same thing! So it can be a bit confusing! I just love tools that I can use to create things with!

dsmith2543 12-28-2006 09:59 PM

just doublechecking

Okay, now let me see if I have this right (bear/bare? with me).
I have the larger Sizzix machine (sorry, not the SideKick, I should have clarified). I can buy the background size embossing folders from Cuttlebug and use them in my Sizzix. I will need to buy the Cuttlebug adapters (not the Sizzix adapters or magnetic converter) to place with the folders in order to get a good impression.
I hope this is right. Thanks everyone for your help and patience.

leney 12-28-2006 10:19 PM

No! You will need the Sizzix convertor to use the large Cuttlebug embossing folders. This is what I have done until I got my Big Shot. You can go to my gallery and see what I did using the Sizzix with the magnetic convertor and the Bloom Dots Embossing die. I hope this helps. I am willing to pass on any knowledge I have acquired about anything you want to ask about. I am a substitute teacher and my dh says sharing my knowledge with others is in my blood!

dsmith2543 12-28-2006 10:30 PM

Yikes, was I way off. Okay, I have the magnetic converter already, so all I need is to buy the CB embossing envelopes. I got confused. I'm SO going to place an order tomorrow.
Thanks so much Leney for your help. I'm a sub teacher (and love it) also and teaching is in my blood too. I guess that's why I became a demonstrator.

I had three of the Sizzix cutting pads as I always keep a replacement or two on hand. So I just made a platform of the Sizzix cutting pads by stacking them on top of each other. I then put my cardstock into the embossing folder and pushed it on through my Sizzix. I pushed it through then pushed down on the handle several times to make sure that I had even coverage of pressure. I didn't buy anything extra and it worked wonderfully.

cuttlebug embossing folders

Today I bought a cuttlebug embossing folder ... and I don't even have a Cuttlebug ... BUT ... i have the sizzix and wanted to see if it worked. Using the board on the bottom with the e.folder on that, 2 notepads, and a self-healing mat (to make it hard on top), it worked with the sizzix. But, there has to be an easier way. For those that use the c-bug folders with your Sizzix, do I just get another board to sandwich the folder in between??

simmy :-)

Do you have the convertor?

SIZZIX EMBOSSING FOLDERS

I have a Sizzix machine and I see a lot of references to the cuttlebug and embossing envelopes. Although I don't have any embossing envelopes I was going to get some if they are worth getting. I don't really want to buy another machine if I can avoid it.

SilverDragoness 03-01-2007 05:16 PM

I have used the Sizzix machine with the converter to do Cuttlebug embossing
folders. You just need to slide them through the machine and press down on each area.

Bikingmom 03-01-2007 08:43 PM

On another thread I read that you can use the CB folders with a MARBLE rolling pin! No need for the machine. I'm going to try that.

Me too, and it works great. I do have one sizzix plate and it was a nice embossed image, but I hardly ever use it, where as the cuttlebug folders in the sizzix I use daily.

Joelyn 03-02-2007 09:22 AM

I have the Sizzix and I bought a bunch of the cuttlebug embossing templates (I guess thats what they are called) . I put my sizzix plastic piece on top of the cuttlebug template and then I taped several pieces of cardboard together and kept testing for thickness, until it was just right. I made lots of embossed sheets that way and it worked just the same as if I used a cuttlebug. I don't know if I explained that very well, but you don't need to spend anything to make it work great.

Joelyn 03-02-2007 09:25 AM

I tried the rolling pin technique first, but the paper curled. You need to mist the paper with that technique. You don't need to mist the paper when you use the sizzix with the cardboard. Just a thought.

Anyone know if you can use cuttlebug folders in sizzix machine?

I'm sure it's out there somewhere, but not searching right or something. Anyone know?
thanks,
Vicky

Yes! It's amazing. I love how deep the imprint is.

I just started a blog and this was my first and only topic so far since I'm still learning. Sorry I can't figure out how to get the photos as thumbnails. Hope this helps someone!
