Is cuttlebug better....

at embossing than a sizzix.... I'm hearing that people are buying the cuttlebug (even tho they own the sizzix) strictly for embossing because it is so crisp.... any input Thanks

i don't have a sizzix so i can't 'compare'

but i am very pleased with the results that i get with my cuttlebug. i use it mainly for embossing but do use dies occasionally.

Is your question meaning an original Sizzix, or a Sizzix Big Kick? I have the Big Shot, which is essentiall the same thing as a Big Kick, just a different outside color/shape. It works great for embossing. I wouldn't trade it at all.

I have a friend who uses the original Sizzix to emboss the CB folders, and she says it works great. I'll find out in a couple weeks when I go to her house for a visit--but I have no doubt that it works fine.

Are you talking about the original Sizzix, the one that takes a lot of effort to pull down the handle? If so, yes, it would work for the Cuttlebug embossing folders, but would take a bit of practice to get it to look proper. It would take several movements through the compressor area to get the embossing.

If you are still debating on getting a die cutting and embossing machine, I would definately go with either the BIGkick or the BigShot. They are a much sturdier machine and require very little effort to operate. They will each take any die or embossing item on the market without a lot of fuss and muss. There is very little extra items you would need in order to die cut or emboss with either machine. Extra shims are not needed once you have the basic items for either machine.

Like anyone else who comments on this forum, these are just my opinions noting that I do have the BIGkick, Cuttlebug and the original Sizzix machines. I only use my BIGkick now for personal use.

I do own the big kick and love it and have bought some of the cuttlbug emossing templates and it works great, what I'm wondering is do they come out as crisp as using the cuttlebug macine? i have read some reviews that people are buying the cuttlebug strictly for embossing because it comes out so crisp......

lmg........In my personal opinion (since I do own both the BIGkick and Cuttlebug), I see no difference in the quality. For that matter, I feel the BIGkick has more pressure to it, since it was initially made to deal with the large Sizzix dies and to cut through any material that one can cut with scissors. Therefore, YES, the BIGkick does exert the pressure to make a super embossing with the Cuttlebug folders.

I think the issue is with the Sizzix Texturz plates--they don't emboss as crisply as the CB folders do. I have no problems with the CB folders in my Big Kick.

The Sizzix Texture plates are for texturizing your paper with a design. They are not meant as embossing. There is a difference between the two techniques. I do use the Texture plates when I just want a subtle design to my background or on a die cut. Fiskars texture plates are the same as the Sizzix ones also.

Yes, I'm sure that some people have gotten a deeper impression than normal with the texture plates. That requires shims and such which is not what was meant to be used with them. Also, adding the shims could cause your cutting pads to crack.

I find by lightly misting my paper with a fine mist sprayer filled with water, my images come out much crisper using the Sizzix and Fiskars texture plates.

I only have a cuttlebug so I can't compare! But the cuttlebug embossing is very good!
