Default cuttlebug dilemma

I just received a cuttlebug. So excited! I have a question though. When I emboss my paper with the A2 embossing folders and want to mount them on my cardstock, (I buy the pre-cut cards from Michaels, the ones you only have to fold, the smaller ones) anyway, the embossed part of the paper is smaller than the ready made card. It seems that the embossing folder is a little smaller than the cards, so do I have to use them as a second layer. Does this make any sense??? When I cut it exactly to the size of my card, wanting to mount it on the front of the card as the first layer, around the edges there was no embossing. I thought it looked funny. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

You are right, they are a bit smaller than a regular card front. The only solution is to trim it so it is about 1/4" shorter and narrower and have it be a second layer, or get over it and leave it as it is. Or, you can just run your card front through, if that is the look you want.

Well, at least I know it's not something I'm doing wrong. I don't like the look so I guess I'll have to use it as a 2nd layer. Thanks!

Those prepackaged cards and envelopes are "get what you pay for".....CHEAP!!

They are not a true A2 size so your items are not going to fit as you would like. I would suggest purchasing your cardstock separately and starting from that route. You'll be much happier with the end result.

You purchased the Cuttlebug to create beautiful cards, your cards deserve to be done on quality paper.

In the long run, it's cheaper and easier to just do it all your self from scratch.

Just my opinion from experience.

even a TRUE A2 size card front is slightly bigger than the FULL embossed area you get from the bug.

i usually always trim it to 4 x 5 1/4 and use it as a second layer, but i like the layered look so it doesn't bother me.

the bug is very addicting... maybe the look will grow on you.

good luck!

Yes, the embossed piece will be smaller because you are compressing the paper into all the nooks and crannies of the embossing folder.

Just look at it as an opportunity to layer other colors behind the embossed section.

the point i was making (and so is the OP) is that the FINISHED embossed area is not the standard A2 size.

it is slightly smaller, no matter how big the CS is before. i understand how the embossing distorts the paper.

we were talking about the 'finished' size.

and that is why i suggested/agreed to use it as a layer... because i like the layered look and maybe it would grow on her as well.

Yes, I know. My point is simply if one compresses any material, it is going to be a smaller size. That's what compression is about.

Evidently you missed the part where I was agreeing with you.

the point is...

the size of the finished embossed area (which is created because of compression)- but not about compression in and of itself.

evidently you missed the part where i said i got that.

sorry this is turning into a CE hi-jack/debate of sorts... which i never signed up for and try to avoid.

I will use the layered look. I decided I like it! The pre-packaged cards just seems to take less time than cutting cardstock to make your own cards. Anyone else use pre-packaged cards?

i have some pre-made cards and envelopes... haven't used them as of yet.

i like to use white CS to make a base, and then i make a card front to attach to it. gives it a little more substance KWIM

I don't usually use them. But I have picked up packages of crazy colored cards if they were on sale.

NOTE: You may want to look at PaperZone instead of Michael's to get higher quality at a lower cost. Several other companies online sell cards. MarcoPaper.com is also good.
