Totally dumb question :
How the heck to you use a stamp-a-ma-jig? It looks like a big plastic square. How does that work to line up the stamps? Does it really work? and is it something I should invest in, or are there other -- less expensive -- options out there?

Scroll down a little bit and you'll see a video for- How to Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig (Oct.28th,2007)!
Kristina has some great tutorials on her blog. You should definitely check it out!
HTH!

I have a non SU brand. But this is what you do. You butt the plastic that comes with the tool up in the corner of the tool. Ink up your stamp and then butt it up against that same corner (while the plastic is still there) and stamp the plastic.
Then you take that plastic piece out of the corner and can line it up with a stamped object on your card, such as a stem when you want to stamp the flower part, etc. When the plastic image is lined up like you want it, you then put the stamp-a-ma-jig back against that corner. Carefully remove the plastic and stamp your stamp in the same place.
I think I wrote this clear as mud. :p I think there is a tutorial for this... I will look.

There are not much less expensive options. There is a one you can buy in a store, it's the same thing only purple instead of black, so if you use a coupon that's cheaper. *course if you get it as a free item or it's the thing that puts you to the next hostess gift or whatever it might be just as well to get it from SU*
There is much MORE expensive ones you can get though. You can pay whatever you want for a stamp alingment thing. Not sure why.
I read a blog once where she made one out of lego's She called it a lego-ma-jig it was cute and worked. *she somehow made a T but it was flat, all you really need is a T... or even an upside down L*
It's WONDERFUL I use it every single day.
I'm sure the links show it great, so I won't bother to tell how. I know the kwernerdesigns one is a video and it really shows it.

oh - I don't use the plastic imaging piece. I cut up my vellum scraps and stamp on those instead and keep them in the stamp box to reuse time and again!
well it sounds like it's something i definitely need. I've got a lot of smaller background stamps and I always have a problem with those. It never looks nice. I was thinking I could make it out of cardboard but maybe I will just splurge. I've seen the "L" or "T" looking thing at Mike's. Maybe I'll head up there to see before I order it during SAB.
Y'know, I just have to say, everyone is so helpful here. It's almost like having someone sit with me at my table to explain everything. I love this web site.

I asked my Demo how to use one and she went and bought it so that we could use it at my next party... wasn't she nice? Subsequently everyone bought one cos its an awsome tool!
I am SO glad I found this thread!! I have never seen a stamp-a-ma-jig used, and a friend said she didn't like it, so I never bought one. I didn't "get" the stamp once, then stamp again. I have such a hard time lining things up...these tutorials helped me realize it's time to buy one! (time to call my demo!!)

OP here -- I bought it (the EK version which is the same as SU) at Mike's with a coupon -- ended up costing me $6 and change. I am now a total convert to a SAMJ. I love it. Everything now looks so much straighter. Thanks for making me buy it. How did I live without it??
