i have been trying since i bought the mover and shaper die two months ago, to get the piece of foam so i may use the die without cutting a window, everytime. finally this last week, i called and was pretty upset and the woman said she would put one in the mail to me herself. so today i get a 9x12 manilla envelope and it says ejection foam insert on the front, but its perfectly flat. i open it and there is a catalog and no foam. so i call and they tell me the mailman must have opened my mail and took the foam! i told her that the envelope did not appear to be tampered with, so she said she would put me on the list again.
can i make something that will work? i am not holding out much hope that i will ever get it from them. i manage a small manufacturing shop and i would lose my job if we had a customer who had been trying for months to get an item neccessary to use something i sold them to begin with. ugh.
Ugh, that really is poor customer service! I can't see why anybody would use an envelope that size to send a small square/cube like that! I hope you do actually get the piece this time.
In the meantime, would a stack of fun foam work? You could stick together squares until you get the right depth and stick a piece of magnetic paper on the back if it really needs to be magnetic (I suspect it doesn't really need that, it's just to give you a sense of security that it's going to stay in place as the die goes through the machine).
Let us know how you get on, fingers crossed for you!
as i understand you can use the die, as is. and not cut out a window but you need this foam piece to take the place of the little window die. and it keeps the paper from getting wedged in the first die. right?

Right, the little foam piece just "fills the hole." I got one from Sizzix a couple of years ago. I think most of the base dies come with them now. I've accumulated several.
mine didnt come with it. i suggested to sizzix that they include it with the ones that dont come with it. it would eliminate months of hassle on the part of their customer. i manage a small manufacturing plant, i would not have a job if i gave customer service like sizzix does.

I'm not sure what die you've been talking about - maybe an old one, before they came with them. I've always had GREAT customer service from Sizzix - sorry you've had a bad experience.
it seems silly to me that we are messing around for months over a piece of foam. you'd think i was asking them to send me a chunk of gold! i am pretty patient and probably should have never let it go on for so long. now i have lost my happy attitude!
The UK Sizzix web site has a statement that the pieces are available free to customers who need one - does the US site say the same? When the dies first came out, they didn't include one in the packaging so it sounds like you got an older die.
I don't think the dimensions really matter - it just needs to fit comfortably in your die. Only the thickness is going to be significant and that's going to be a bit of trial and error I would think. Try stacking bits of fun foam in the die until they come up to the same level as the surface of the black foam round the edge of the shape. Basically you're just stopping the paper from getting pressed down into the centre of the die so it will release so you want something that's about the same depth as that hollow.
it is free. i aksed the girl yesterday, if there were something similar that i could buy at the hardware store or michaels that would do the job. she said, "why buy it when this if free?" i replied "because you won't send me one" she said "oooooh, yeah."
well, i should have time today to mess with it after work. i have been up since 4am trying to rid myself of a migraine before work so if that lessens slightly, i'll be good to go.
I didn't get one either with my movers & shapers window die kit #1. I didn't know anything about this...so what exactly does the foam insert do for this die? Who do I call to get one & could you please give me the number to call. Thank you.
if you go to sizzix.com and got to the contact us tab, you can either email or call. its called an ejection insert. instead of putting the window die in the reg. die to cut a window, its a blank chunk of foam with no blades, so that it doesnt cut, but it keeps the paper from getting wedged into the main die. so you can get it out easier.

and if you are lucky they will send you one! :-)

Oh Ok. Thanks. I've had this die for about 10 months now, got it on sale & still have not used it yet. It has the 4 squares so it looks like a window cut out of 4 window panes & all you need to do is buy more shapes for more cutouts if you want. Lots of possabilities for cards. Thanks again.
I am so sorry you are having such a problem with them mailing them out to you. I requested the inserts last year and it took about 4 weeks, but they did send them. They sent 2 small cubes that looked like they are no more than 1 inch thick. I think Joanne's foam idea is perfect. All you need is something the same width as the whole to prop up your paper so that you can easily remove your die cut after you run the die through your machine. I just used a craft pick to life the edge of my die cut out of the die before I got the little foam dohickeys.
