Copic Question
 

Ok so I have spent a small fortune on copic markers.......... I have played with them... I have done searches and looked around sites for info on how to use them...I have priced classes.....sooo
Does anyone have any good resources for learning how to use these markers? I am a brand new to them person and wanna learn real bad but cant find classes near me and cant afford ones away from me...
Any hints, tips, webites, info of any kind is greatly appreciated.

you tube has some good videos on coloring with copics.

Congrats on joining the copic obsession! You can do a search on Youtube for copic tutorials. One thing to understand is to practice - and don't give up! Early on I stamped one image about 6 times on a sheet of paper and colored it until I felt comfortable blending 3 shades of blue.

Over at Get It Scrapped there is a free tutorial series and on-line Copic classes:-)

There is also Marianne's book on Shadows and Shading that is a great tool and comes with templates to help you place your shadows/white areas. And she's got a new book coming out next week.

After checking all the websites out, I think just practice... practice .... practice is what works best. Maybe you could stamp out a few pages of images and just sit and color during times you are "waiting" like when cooking supper, at the doctor's office, picking someone up, while watching TV.

I have looked at some of the youtube you suggested and I so appreciate all your help.. now I need to just practice

Annie's Attic just came out with the How To Copic book...It is $14.95 and I just ordered it...Everything you need to know, how to do it right there in front of you! Can't wait to get it...

I Like Markers

Good to start at the beginning and just crank through. Amazing tips and information.

Some tips I learned:

1- make sure you have the right paper; I love Staples #110 cardstock but others feel differently. Always have something more absorbent underneath. You'll need to experiment like I did. Listen to suggestions. I spent a lot of money before I finally did.

2 - follow Inspiration Blooms for tips... She's awesome!

I am also struggling. With the paper selection, I think.

I have tried...

Georgia Pacific - bleeds a little, does not blend well

Stampin up - does not bleed, does not blend well

Heavenly White - does not bleed, does not blend as well as Id like

Neenah - Bleeds badly, blends great. Wish it didn't bleed so badly

Cryogen White - Does not bleed, does not blend great and sparkly yellow color makes the marker colors look different.

I am at a loss, any ideas. I am willing to pay someone for samples of other papers that work for you. I just don't want to buy a whole package and have it not work for me.

Neenah would be my favorite so far, if it did not bleed. HELP!!!

I use paper trey ink white OR xpress it blending card. Pti blends well and doesn't bleed, but soaks up a lot of ink. Xpress it bleeds a little IF you do heavy blending, but otherwise works well.

The vast majority of the time I use pti, as I find it easier to control when I am coloring.

Have you tried either one of those?

I really love Copic X-Press It Cardstock. Some people don't like that it's not quite as white as the other cardstock, but I've never had anyone of my card receivers notice! I love the way it blends and I'd have to really colour in one spot a lot to make it bleed.

As for practicing, when I get a new image, I print it out (or stamp it) several times on a sheet of cardstock and then colour and colour and colour, usually in the evening while watching TV. This has really helped! I hope you start enjoying things a little more and welcome to the club!

I learned off you youtube videos to start. Suzanne J Dean's videos helped me alot. She has a ton of videos and guides on her blog . I also use x-press it paper. Don't give up, though Copics can be seriously addicting.

Picking the right paper is EVERYTHING.

My goto coloring papers are Gina K Designs 120 llbs. Pure Luxury cardstock, and Couture Cardstock One Sheet Wonder. They will change the way you color, I promise. Just try them. ;)

As for tips...you don't need all the color ranges, but do get 3-4 of the same family of the color groups. Like for Reds...have R20, R22, R24, R27, etc.

Paper, Ink, Color!

I just finished a Copic Certification Class and I have tested a few cardstock (which I have posted on my blog) and PTI stampers selection and Copic X-press it are 2 of my favorite.

I learnt that you have to find a paper that fits your coloring style (I'm pretty heavy handed and I just love blending it to death - so a thicker cardstock is more forgiving on my style).

I just wrote to the paper manufacturers and ask them to send me paper samples for me to test.

Another vote for Copic X-Press it here! Both it and the Gina K. are my faves for Copics. I took an on-line class through My Creative Classroom...fairly inexpensive and lots of great ideas. And the instructor stressed...practice, practice, practice. Enjoy your Copics!

I've watched countless YouTube videos and paid for online classes through Simply Scrapping Crafts and Color Me Creative classroom.

I bought both Marianne Walker's book on shading (excellent) and the new one on Copic coloring she co-authored (it's nice but I wish there were step-by-step photos).

I give another vote for Copic Xpress-It cardstock!
